Metzer Eck

A lovely old fashioned (Eastern European) looking place (it has been a pub for a while, back through the DDR days). I enjoyed a rather nice 'haus' Schwarzbier in what is quite a cosy interior.

Based on the name you would assume that there must be some meat somewhere. Then again this is Germany, so you can assume there must be some meat everywhere!

OK food, comfortable room. Good value. But,poor service and unfriendly. I can get a good, traditional meal in lots of places in Berlin where people at least smile.

While the food is ok here, the service is uneven. It’s not unusual for the entire place to be “reserved” for the evening, making a trip here a waste of time. Also, the owner seems to have a large chip on her shoulder. A simple customer greeting is met with a bored, interrupted glare. Not exactly friendly. Could be a better kneipe without the 'tude.

Very friendly service in a traditionally themed atmosphere. Excellent sauasage and potato salad, a number of beers on offer, good value for money and generally a cosy haven on a freezing February night.
