It has now been 2 months since we wrote this review. It goes without saying that we are justified in our comments as the pub’s management and/or owners have not bothered to stand up for themselves.

Very disappointing. The pub is dirty, overpriced (the tired decor doesn’t reflect the high food prices) and doesn’t cater for children as there were no child’s menu. We felt as if we were sucked in to spend as much money as possible and when we queried some of the prices, the staff didn’t want to know us any more and were very rude and cheeky. The oil needed changing as the chips tasted of old cooking fat. The landlord was very unhelpful and has an attitude problem. If you walk past the pub during non-opening hours, the poor state of the closed curtains say it all about how the pub is run – it looks as if the pub has clossed down! Under the present management, you wonder how much longer this pub has got and an urgent refit would be in order, if they can afford it (some of the lights were not even switched on during the evening, until we asked to have them switched on!). This is a fine example of how the pub industry has gone – in decline. This is a totally independent review from a family visiting the area.

The Green Man is a popular country pub facing the green in the middle of Hortsted Keynes village. If you live near here or pass by it is well worth calling in for a quiet beer or an intimate meal with a friend. Families are more than welcome too. There is plenty of choice if you like a real ale.
