10 reviews of Nudo in English
Asian-fusion eaterie, Nudo, is tucked away down a backstreet in Newcastle city centre and serves up terrifyingly large portions of decent grub. The only thing bigger than their portions is the menu, which could take an hour to read if you have the time.
It really is up to you if you see this as a good thing or a bad thing.
The decor is dimly lit (which I prefer as it has a cosiness, which trumps the feeling of sitting on everyone else’s lap in a brightly lit restuarant) and pleasing enough. The prices are pretty good too, which saves the slight brusqueness of the staff (we’re not talking rude here, but they could do with being a little more cheery).
Effectively, it’s a smart little restaurant which won’t damage your wallet. Worth a visit.
Over-zealous service can be just as annoying as tardy. The staff at Nudo fall into the former category as generally I like to have taken my coat off, sat at the table and looked at the available drinks selection before being asked to make a choice. Given the extent of the menu in question (food-wise at least) you also need rather more than 5 minutes in which to make your meal choice. Fending off 3 different waiters during the time of looking it over doesn’t help in terms off speeding things up either.
The restaurant is certainly popular (by the time we finished up I’d reckon it was at least 90% full) but your heart still sinks when you get directed to a table right at the foot of a set of stairs and therefore potentially in the way of foot traffic – I’d suggest that this should be the final table used on any given night (there were other ones not filled when we first arrived). The prices are probably in large part what makes it so popular and they, coupled with the quality of the sushi, brook no complaint. The beef with udon noodles special, however, proved to be inedible due to the amount of fat on the meat.
As other reviewers have mentioned your food turns up in order of being made and not as starter, main course, dessert so this should be made clear from the start as clearly it’s going to be some diners’ first visit each night (they should also not bother to advertise the traditional order of the courses as clearly if you’re getting hot stuff you could get your main before the starter as my girlfriend did). As mentioned earlier the sushi is of a high standard and it makes little difference what order that comes along in. Time between ordering and the arrival the food was for me pretty short but the hot dishes took markedly longer so the scenario noted below where one member of a larger party had to wait an age for their food is still often repeated I imagine.
Having to hunt round the table for your chopsticks (they’re in the wooden menu holder) and the bizarre lack of pickled ginger with the sushi were also annoyances but I can’t say I’ve been put off going back, we’ll just have to be a bit tactical about the approach next time.

We go here for sushi sometimes and the last time we went, we had a great experience. Very good food, quite cheap for the high quality and some lovely, tasteful and light deserts.
In the past we have complained about the service and speed, but they appear to have sorted this out.

We love Nudo! Its absolutely brilliant value for money and I often find it hard to think of other places to go as its cheap, tasty with a great selection of healthy meals! The sushi is fresh and the staff are always happy to bring me extra wasabi and hot water to top up the green tea.
If you like herbal teas then you have to try the Jasmine Ball Tea at least once: its beautiful to watch!
Oh, and remember to pick up a loyalty card, if you go often then you can work your way up to a free meal…

I hope to god they never change there prices!
There amazing the below viewer is correct we got mains deserts sake and beer and i think one starter for £30 pound,
The portions are very wholesome and everything is fresh and taste good.
We go there allot now because of all this.
The only thing to make it even more amazing is just getting comfy chairs and some more background music but that is all.
IT IS THE BEST. for parking i recommend parking in china town as its around £3.50 for two hours

Both My wife and I have visited Nudo on several occations.
I wish the British would stop being so British. The food is cooked fresh and of course there will be a waiting time. I had to compliment the Manageress on our last visit 27.12.10 as her staff were helpful and polite and the food was fantastic, beer a bit expensive but a great atmosphere and I agree with other reviews, an absolute gem. Please dont change anything accept new additions to your menu.

Nudo is an absolute hidden gem. Huge bowls of steaming noodles in flavorful spicy broth for a bargain £6.00. Low fat, healthy and filling..not to mention fast! Perfect option for lunch or dinner when I don't feel like cooking :)
I particularly recommend the starter of fried chilliand pepper pork tenderloin - absolutely incredible. Little crispy strips of heaven. Seasoning spot on and not greasy or tough.
The poached beef ramen is also delectable and the beef is melt in your mouth..
Hands down favourite place to eat in the city..give it a go! :)

They operate a policy of serve as its cooked. Therefore you may not all get your meals at the same time.
Our experience - As a party of 6, it eventually took us over two and half hours to finish our meal. The last person was served his main meal after everyone had finished theirs [all the meals were bought out one at a time]. The side orders of vegetables were served when the first five people had almost finished their meals. How long does it take to cook raw cucumber with chopped garlic?
Apart from that the food was delicious, but don't go there unless you are prepared to spend a good few hours waiting for your food..

Nudo is a newly opened Asian-fusion restaurant in the centre of Newcastle. It serves a variety of Asian cusine including traditional chinese dishes such as Kung-Po chicken and a variety of dumplings and also Japanese soup noodles and sushi. As well as an extensive menu, there are also widely varying specials to choose from. Typically quick service and large portions, Nudo is an excellent place to go for a quick lunch or dinner. Very good value too!
