as good a bavarian place as it can be... good food, a little grumpy service and fair prices. the augustiner beer is supposed to be the best in town. go there for a real bavarian exerience.... make a reservation!!!

Traditional bavarian restaurant, associated with a brewery (little known to tourists, Augustiner is considered the best of Munichs beers by most of the locals).

The place is a bit run down, always crowded, noisy, the waiters a bit stressed.

Food is simple and nothing special, but at least prices are ok.

Summary: good for a beer, but there are nicer places if you are looking for the bavarian original style

Excellent beer hall which stands head and shoulders above the much more touristy Hofbrauhaus and is much cheaper. The food is authentic Bavarian hearty fayre consisting of meat, meat and meat with the best sauerkraut I have ever tasted. I thoroughly recommend the Schweinshaxe which is a roast pork knuckle. Also to die for is the Bavarian mixed pan which has pork knuckle, chicken, duck, sausages and, for no apparent reason, a piece of lettuce. The gravy is made from dark beer and almost all meals are accompanied with huge dumplings.The beer here is certainly the best in town due mainly to the fact that they source their water from their own spring within. The place is heaving at times and if you want to eat during the busier times it is advisable, if in a big party, to book ahead. Despite the manic atmosphere the staff are very friendly, willing to please and all speak excellent English. Worth coming to the city just for this.
