The Posthouse is a fabulous little place! Its owners, Karen and John, are warm and friendly, and the building and facilities newly refurbished with plenty of atmosphere.
This B&B is comfortable and clean, and very close to both Bath and Wells - although one would certainly need a car in order to visit either. Our hosts were able to kindly recommend places nearby that would be worthwhile visiting. Alternatively, if you decide you’d rather stay close, then I would strongly recommend taking long walks through the picturesque farms and beautiful greenery in the area. Having been lucky enough to have visited in the spring, I was absolutely enchanted with the place!
The Posthouse consists of the main house (two double rooms, fully equipped bathrooms and a stunningly rustic living room and dining room) as well as a cottage connected to the main building, which serves as self-catering accommodation. The cottage sleeps 4 people - 2 in a double room upstairs and the other two in single french beds located in the airy room that also serves as the cottage’s private living room. The kitchen was well stocked - not only with crockery and the necessary pots and pans, but also with those little necessary items like olive oil for salads and milk for our tea. It is this attention to detail that separates the Posthouse from its competitors.
Breakfast was plentiful and consisted of traditional English, cereal, fruit, yogurts, toast, a number of spreads, juice, tea and coffee. Our hosts were very accommodating with any requests we had.
I’d happily go back there again would highly reccommend the Posthouse to any and all visiting the area. And don’t forget to tell Karen and John I said hi!
My first reaction was “I want one of those!!!”
The posthouse is absolutely beautiful, and well arranged. 6 of us stayed for the weekend. 2 had a bedroom in the main building, 2 the room in the cottage, and 2 had nice castiron beds in the “living room” of the cottage.
There was a fully functioning kitchen, with washing machine, dishwasher, stove, sink… everything. Pots and pans, cutlery, glasses… Anything and everything you can think of. Tea and sugar were provided aplenty, along with a kettle, and a bottle of milk in the full-sized fridge!
The owners are lovely, and let us have a barbecue one of the evenings. There is a lovely courtyard just outside the “living room”, which we lined with candles. It’s walled off, which cut the little wind there was. A gorgeous spring night!
The “living room” is one big room which extends on the other side of the kitchen. It has a gorgeous huge fireplace (which works) and a large flatscreen tv. The couch is comfy and sits 4.
Breakfast is included in the price, and is a full english cooked breakfast with stripey bacon, sausages, beans and an egg. The toast is great, and the selection of jams fabulous (I am going to go looking for a certain plum preserve later today). There is something for everyone, including fruits, yoghurt, cereal, milk, juices, and toast. It’s served in a nice dining area with a mess hall style table with benches. A great convivial atmosphere!
Generally we all had great fun, loved the place, and have vowed to come back sometime in the future, for yet another relaxing weekend away.
Being less than half an hour from Bath, and even less from Wells, this is one of those hidden gems from where you can explore several places and have a great weekend.
