the Fruitmarket is a great addition to the Edinburgh art scene. Its a great space that seems large thanks to the construction- not to the actual size. There is always something interesting going on in the galleries- recent shows have been excellent. The bookshop is also a great resource for people looking for hard-to-find art books- in addition to selling quirky post-cards and for camera fans- a small range of Lomographic cameras and accessories. The cafe is a nice bit too, and the fare is reasonably priced. Worth a tuck into, and definately the place to go if you get caught in the notorious Edinburgh weather.

This gallery is a non-profit organisation that is doing it's bit to educate on the subject of contemporary art. II have seen some really great exhibitions of some really interesting individual artists. of the best. It has a welcoming atmosphere, the cafe is a good enough reason to stop there for just a coffee or lunch. The gift shop is sympathetic to what the gallery is promoting.

The Fruitmarket always has interesting, cleverly curated exhibitions of modern international art. It sometimes holds free talks about the exhibitions in the evenings. It's a lovely airy space in which to wander: the building was one of the first Richard Murphy did in the city, and it includes a tiny but entirely fantastic bookshop where you can pick up hard-to-find magazines focusing on art, photography, writing. There's also a really good cafe.
