It’s the wine I’m there for – and wow have they got wine!
Not that I’m against beer or anything, but that’s for drinking in a great Real Ale pub, so if I’m cooking it’s a classy bottle of wine that I’ll drop in for.
Browse the shelves – you’ll always find something interesting – or better still ask for a recommendation and the super knowledgeable staff will help you out.
A great local shop.

Probably my favourite shop in Edinburgh. If you like beer (which I most certainly do!) then this shop is for you. Their selection of beer is very diverse, lots of different German or Belgian beers along with varieties from most continents. You would be very hard pushed to find nothing you liked here. Also there is a good selection of ciders too.
Not that it is all beer though, wine is also in plentiful supply here. Their selection is varied and reasonably priced. And if you are struggling to pick something the staff are always eager to help pick out something for you.

Amazing little independant off-license(?) which stocks a pretty amazing selection of beers, ciders and wines.
The guys who run this place are super-friendly and MASSIVE wheat-beer fans...always a winner.
As I also attended the Qype event, we got to try some truly amazing ciders from Thirstly Cross; particular favourite being Strawberry (I know, I am as suprised as you are).
I recommend that you check this place out the next time you're in this part of town.
5 badger stars.

I was here for a qype event, and ended up being pretty impressed by what they had on offer. While nothing in the truly bargain bin range to attract the poorest students, deals on wine were very reasonable, and when asked about specific wines the proprietor definitely knew his stuff, and could speak on almost any bottle in his store.
On taking a bottle home after the tasting, I was expecting something phenomenal which unfortunately did not come. You win some, you lose some, and with the evening we had there, I think most wines will generally be a win here.
The thistly cross ciders we tried were delicious across the board, although certainly higher priced than the main brand ciders, being a small brand, and high quality. They did mention a very interesting bring in your own apples get paid in cider scheme that sounded promising. Anyone fancy scrumping apples round middle class Edinburgh?

What an amazing little treasure trove. This shop is excellent. It has a fantastic selection of beers and wines from all over the world. One little treasure I bought was a bottle of cherry and chocolate liqueur from France - delicious. If you are looking to buy something truly different for that special person or for that special meal I highly recommend a visit to Cornelius Beer & Wine. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. I'm looking forward to my next visit to buy another bottle of cherry & chocolate liqueur.

An excellent independant bottle shop on Easter Rd. Firstly I am a big monkey fan so they've got their logo spot on. Secondly I'm a big beer fan and they've got a great selection of them. While not a big shop they have packed in a huge variety of worldwide wines too and the guys are really knowledgeable about it all.
Was never really a fan of cider until relatively recently and have only tried a few of the main brands available so I came to the Qype cider tasting event in the hope to broaden my cider drinking horizons. Thistly Cross was the cider that came to put on the tasting. There were 6 types - sparkling, still, red (strawberry), elderflower (1.1%) and my two favourites ginger and gold (matured in whisky barrels). Thanks to Thistly Cross, Cornelius and Qype for putting on this event!
Love the ciders and love Cornelius. Cheers!

Great little shop for all your alcohol requirements! Very friendly and helpful staff who clearly know what they are talking about and would be happy to have a chat with you about what to buy without being at all pushy. A great selection of everything you could think of needing.
I attended a qype event here and we sampled thistly cross cider, which was amazing.
I'll definitely be going back here!

This place is awesome.
With floor to ceiling shelves chocka full of wines from all over the world, and one of the widest and best selections of Scottish and imported beers that I have ever seen... its your one stop shop for beverages.
The staff here are very approachable and really know their stuff; they're happy to give you some guidance to help you choose from their impressive selection of wines/beers and spirits.
Not only do they have a fantastic selection and really friendly service, but its good value too; they had a good selection of decent wines at £6 or 2 for £10, and lots of bottles of vino in the £6 - £12 range, as well as, of course, some delicious bottles at the higher end for those special occasions.
If you're looking for an old (or new) favourite you can't find anywhere else, or searching for a tantalising new tipple to tingle your tastebuds, then this is definitely the place. Get your Thistly Cross Cider here too!!

So with all the reviews for Cornelius already absolutely glowing there's not much more I can add really... But Ill try!
Having never stepped foot in Cornelius previously but having heard all about it from friends I was quite intrigued to see what it was all about.. I wasn't dissapointed.
Its a small shop but with all the stock you could ever need, I can't imagine they would be short of anything. A brilliant selection of beers and ales and so many I had never seen before as well as cider. Ah yes cider my favourite! We had a Qype event here in which we got to taste some Thistly Cross ciders, a small company but a brilliant company with a very careful selection process in regards to which independents they will allow to be stockists..
Which is why they have chosen Cornelius as one of the lucky few.. The staff are uber friendly and knowledgeable in a casual non pushy way.. More like you are asking a friend about their selection process when it comes to alcohol rather than a sales assistant. And that I think is why Cornelius is just so popular and well known in Edinburgh which is really something to be proud of.
A brilliant selection of spirits, wines, beers and ales and a really great enthusiastic team that know their stuff. They offer something different to the usual and I know that I would rather make the trip to Easter road where these guys are located to get something a little special that I cant get anywhere else rather than a high street chain. Check them out, like me I guarantee you will be back.

We have been invited a few times but are too far away in Glasgow. If we receive another one someone will make a point of coming next time. Sorry I seem to have missed so much fun.

My favourite shop in Edinburgh.
They stock a huge selection of beers, lots of which are chilled. They also have a fantastic selection of wines too. There's usually plenty offers on the go as well. The staff are friendly, very knowledgable and always willing to help so don't be afraid to ask questions. At the moment they've got a ton of Oktoberfest beers in but they selll quite quick.
The prices are competative.
Definately five stars from me!!

Edinburgh's best beers and wines, edging out other excellent contenders like Villeneuve, and totally trumping any chain you can think of.
Unless you are a proper expert, don't just go to the counter with a bottle or ten, ask, ask: you'll get good affordable advice every time.
And seconded the candy store comment. It makes me happy every time I walk in, and I swear I'm not an alcoholic..

A fantastic selection of beers under one roof, I’m like the cat that’s got the cream when I go in. There can’t be a shop in Edinburgh with a better selection of beers than Cornelius, many traditional and many unusual and the staff are very knowledgable too.

The man that owns this shop clearly loves his job. He knows loads, not only about wine, but also which beers go well with which foods. There are usually a couple of great offers on too, which bring prices down quite a bit.

this is a great wine shop and I know a bit about wine.
the staff are know what they are talking about as well.
But i would normally buy more ales and ciders than wine from this shop. they source some unusual and excellent ciders and ales from both the UK and abroad.
its nice that not everyone in edinburgh knows about this place otherwise there would not be enough for me

Between the parameters of London Road and Montgomery Road, Easter Road and Elm Row- that square, there are approximately four corner shops that sell alcohol, five proper liquor establishments (corporate), Valvona & Crolla which has a gargantuan liquor selection, and a grocery store. Yet, if I'm going to get a good drink, I'll choose Cornelius even if it takes me three minutes longer to get there. Cornelius is an amazing shop. The beer selection is avant-garde. I'm a big beer drinker and many of the brands I haven't seen before- let alone sampled. Thus, each outing to Cornelius is akin to a kid in a candy shop. But the candy is beer. You know? The range of fruit beers, also, I find quite authoritative- the cherry beer is my favourite in the world, hands down. The wine is another matter. It is not an overbearing store, nor does it seem precious, but it is a serious wine store. The bottles have been chosen, so it seems, as an astute bookseller chooses books. There is also quite a high concentration of both organic and microbrewed bevvies, which is nice to see. The cost is perhaps more than you would pay for that ubiquitous wine store 3 for 2 deal (and a sidenote, I am definitely not above going for that deal) but if you're in the mood for a better beverage, perhaps ethically minded, and if you want your cash to support an independent organization by a man who plays really good music at really good decibels, then Cornelius is for you. Its got a picture of a monkey in a wineglass as the storefront which should tell you a little bit of something about the lack of pretention- but if you're still unconvinced that a place that stocks wine magazines could be down to earth I have an anecdote (as ever) in which I went in and heard Thom Yorke blaring out the speakers ( I think it was the Clash the night before). I told the employee- who works there a proper full-time- who had helped me pick a wine- that it must be nice to work in such a nice environment, to be employed by such a nice little company. At which he replied, oh, it's my shop.
