West Midlands Safari Park

We visited during the week so thankfully it wasn't too busy, though only one entry booth was open so even on a quiet day we had to queue for some time.The Safari is excellent fun, you can get up close to quite a few of the animals, though thankfuly the Lions etc were a bit further away!!
The Safari takes about 75 mins, make sure you buy some animal food, the Giraffe's are very friendly.Driving through the park feels an unhurried experience, if you want to pull over for some better photo opertunities you can do so.
After driving through the Safari you park up at one of the many car-parks where you can visit the Leisure Park which as well as the oligatory pay-as-you-go rides has a respetable variety of animals on show, Penguins, Hippos, a small but 'well stocked' Reptile zone with some frightening looking Snakes and Crocs, as well as goats, Meer Cats, Lemurs etc.
Overall a very pleasant afternoon out.

A fantastic day out for all the family, my kids enjoyed it so much they want to go again and again. A clean safe and fun environment for all, and the staff are friendly too, well worth the money.

An excellent day out and we regularly go with the kids, best of all you get free re-entry on a paid ticket. So go early in the season and you can go back again for free.

In addition to the animals there is a reasonable theme park with plenty of rides (not much for the under fives in the theme park). Various animal exhibitions including sealions, reptiles and the walk through bat house where the bats are flying in with the visitors!

Top attraction, well worth a visit but do allow a whole day...

Went to this park in 1997 i think gees i`m old, it was a great day out as it was in someone elses car giraffe put its head in the sunroof the monkeys jump on the bonnet and there is lots more wild animals to see including the feeding of the lions and the terrific acting seal show. Cant remeber much else must be time to go back lol. Worth a visit.

There's nothing like animals in captivity to make for an excellent day out. Seeing tigers lolling in the West Midlands rain instead of loping along in a Bengali jungle always makes me happy.

I jest, I jest! But the joke surely opens the way to speak of the West Midlands Safari Park's ethical treatment of animals, and their committment to assuring their animals live happy, fulfilled lives, despite being gawked at by herds of Midlanders. Occasionally there's a Welsh person as well, but the buffalo don't mind.

The nature reserve is 4 miles of animal viewing. You stay in your car and drive through the park, looking at various creatures, some boring, some adventurous, and some downright frightening.

My favourite bit was when the largest giraffe (which is saying a lot) leant into our car window and drooled on my youngest, who threw an absolute fit! You can feed some of the animals, but for some parts, you have to keep your car windows and doors closed and locked.

This takes about an hour and a half, after waiting for everybody and their second cousin's aunt-in-law to take 8 pictures of each animal.

After that, head over to the Amusement park, where you can go through various bits -- the Bat House, which smells of guano, the seal sanctuary, and seal show (which is good fun), and the snake man, who gives educational talks about reptiles and drapes them all over his shoulders.

The rides are good fun -- nothing to write home about if you've been to Alton Towers, but all the stuff you'd expect from an amusement park.

The cost to enter the Safari Park is highish, but not ridiculous - £13 per adult, £11.50 per child, and that's just for the animals bit.

If you're going to the amusement park, the cost for a wristband to ride all the rides all day is £11 for adults and £10.50 for children.

So all in all, if you take a family of four, it will be a £100 day out -- make sure you go early and stay late for it to be worth the cost! With the park opening at 10 and closing at 6, you should be able to get your money's worth/

I love this place!! It is a fantastic day out for people of any age. Even if you do not have a car they offer rides in the safari park cars.

The range of animals they have is fabulous. The rare white tigers and lions are incrdibly beautiful and you get to see them in a way that is so different to a zoo. You have to get some packets of animal feed so you can get slobbered on by all the different animals (I also recommend taking a towel to wipe your hands on).

On you have driven round you can then go to see some more animals in the walk around area. There is a fun sealion show that has to be seen. There are also fun fair type rides to complete the whole day.

When you are done walking around, if there is time you can drive around again and see all the animals once more before leaving.

It is a great value day out. I recommend getting there early to have the full experience of the day and get there before it gets too busy.

I love this place. Its great fun. It is worth going here just for teh fact that you get to feed the animals, for example, the giraffes. It is so wierd to feel those huge tongues taking teh food off your out-stretched palms. Obviously you can’t feed certain animals but just seeing them is magical enough. I originally went as a kid of about 10 and I’m now 22 nearly 23, and the safari still amazes me. The rides in the park no longer seem that good to me, so I would say that they are more for kids, but the tours and shows that are put on throughout the day are very fun and interactive. I would recommend planning your day around which shows you want to see otherwise you will miss the ones you really want.

This is a great Safari Park that you actually get to drive round and get up close to the wild animals that you would never normally see in this country.

I used to work there when I was about 17 and I can say that it was one of the best jobs I had when I was younger. It was great to see all the sea life animals on the way out of work everyday.

The place itself has the only white tigers in the UK and also has a whole host of rides and shows for the whole family to enjoy. It is a must for families and anyone who enjoys animals in general.

i enjoyed my day out here it was great. the parking was fine it was easy to get to. the animals were entertaining and its good how you can just relax in the comfort of your own car while visiting animals. i did worry that monkeys would wreck the car when we got there i relaxed cus the monkeys couldnt even get to the car. and it was an even better bonus when we realised there was a fair its not a small fair its actaully decent with some pretty good rides my kids loved it. and the staff were great the food tasted nice it didnt cost all that much. when you visit here you always get a free return ticket which was great i think it is definatly a nice family outing.

I think for the price you pay, you do get value for money!

It was last August when I had just graduated from university, was in the painful process of looking for a job and basically had had enough of watching Friends re-runs on the TV, when I decided to do something with my day. That is when I came upon the idea of going to the West Midlands Safari Park.

Now living in the Midlands I have been here many a time, in fact I have seen the park every Christmas when we took my sister and my cousins to go to see Santa on the Seven Valley Railway which is located nearby. My boyfriend however had never been and did not know what to expect so for everybody who has never been, here is all the information you need to know.

It does seem a bit mad that the child prices are the same as the adult but the price does include a free return visit for all so you can relive the fun for free a second time. Remember that it has to be in the same vehicle though.
Your admission fee includes;
Drive through Safari, White Lions, Wild dogs, Elephant reserve, Tiger reserve, Lion reserve, discovery trail, seal island, sea aquarium, creepy crawlies, animal encounter, reptile encounter, reptile house, deer park, goat park, sea lion theatre (houses some really good shows in which kids can get involved in), Express train and the hippo lakes.

Also there are prices to visit the rides which are £8.75 for people over 1.2 metres tall and £7.25 for people less than 1.2 metres tall.

History:

The west Midlands Safari Park has been around for over 15 years and is renowned for being a fun day out. For those people who do not like zoos and believe they are cruel then rest assured that the Safari Park is one of the friendlier zoos in which the animals are kept outside and have lots of space. You drive your car around certain enclosures allowing you to take a good and close look on how the animals act, look and move.

The Safari Park:

The actual Park is huge and as soon as you reach it you can see the big colourful signs letting you know you have arrived. On arrival you pay for the amount of people in the car. You have an option to buy animal food as some animals you can feed on your travels. Then off you go in your car discovering the land of the huge animals. Here you will see llamas, elephants and giraffes and if you are brave enough you can drive into the lion and tiger enclosures where you have to keep your windows up and your doors locked to prevent any nasty accidents. Driving around is fun as the animals come right up to your car and with some of them you can feed them. Just remember to wash your hands after which unfortunately I didn’t before eating. Ewww!!!

Out of your car you have the opportunity to visit the smaller animals which includes the sea lions, reptiles and creepy crawlies. There are also some friendlier animals such as goats and rabbits. Occasionally and you will have to check the times when you visit, you can get to touch the animals and feed them.

When you have had enough of looking at the animals you can go on the rides. Although it is always a bit rubbish when there are height restrictions but there are plenty of rides for all. For those over 1.2 metres we have the Jumbo Parade, the tarantula, the rhino coaster and the Zambezi water splash. For those under 1.2 metres we have the Congo carousel, the flying pandas and the animal ark. There are plenty more too so the wrist bands are a good idea as it gives you more reasons to love your day out here.

Eating at the Safari Park:

There is a good variety on eating establishments and what you can eat here. We have the following;

Candy sweet shop – OK maybe not the healthier choice but if you just fancy some sweets while you are walking around then here you go.

Port Livingstone Pizza – All types of pizzas available here including my favourite the Hawaiian. Also they sell chicken dishes and chips but there is also some vegetarian options including vegetarian pizzas of course. This is where I ate and the pizzas were reasonably priced. I had a slice and it cost around £2 and it was a big and filling slice.

Burger Co – Great for exactly what it says – burgers.

Oasis licensed bar and coffee shop – Great place to go and sit down if you want a drink or a snack such as a sandwich or a baguette. They also sell food like muffins which is good for a quick bite to eat to fill you up. Prices here were standard at about £1 for a drink and around £2.50 for sandwiches.

Hot and Spicy – This was my boyfriend’s choice of food and he had a jacket potato with cheese which cost around £2.50. They also sold hot dogs and burgers here.

Also throughout the Safari Park you will find little snack houses that will sell ice-creams, sweets and drinks for people on the go. Also there is a picnic area so those who wish to bring their own food can do so.

Shopping:

There are many shops including the African Trading Company and Jungle Bazaar gifts. They sell anything from stationary to soft toys. You can even buy educational books, t-shirts and extra camera film. My favourite things to look at though were the animal prints they have for sale and range in price from £5 - £50.

Other local attractions:

Kidderminster is great for a visit if you want to do some shopping. Also Bewdley is a beautiful little town which houses some great pubs to go and eat in. The main attraction nearby is the seven valley railway which houses steam train rides and a souvenir shop.

My Verdict:

I love the Safari Park and it is a great day out for all with something to do and interest people of all ages. Those who are very protective of their car though I would recommend going in somebody else’s as the animals can get close. When my boyfriend saw that you had to drive through in your car he nearly had a heart attack but he soon relaxed enough to do it. There was one point though when a giraffe walked past the car so close that it pushed the wing mirror into the car, I just loved his face. It is fun feeding the bigger animals but beware they do try to get their heads right in the car and many of them do drool.

The smaller animal enclosure is fantastic with the sea lion shows being my favourite as you watch them do tricks. The creepy crawly encounter was probably my worst experience because I cannot stand spiders but the reptile enclosure houses some very impressive snakes. My favourite part of the trip was that we caught a small show about reptiles and I got to hold one of the snakes.

This is really an all weather day out as it was raining when we went but all the animals could still be seen and it is nice to be able to get so close to them. I know what you are all going to say, that it is a zoo and it is cruel but the Safari Park gives the animals more room than I have seen any other zoo do so it is one of the nicer ones.

I think if you live in commutable distance you should visit as it is a great day out.

The Safari Park is a good day out for people of all ages. We paid £3.50 for the safari bus and found that it was much better than driving around the safari and there’s no chance of getting your windscreen wipers ripped off by a giraffe,paintwork scratched by a wolf or any other animal damaging your car!

The guide was very knowledgeable and wasn’t boring at all. You get to go off road in the safari bus too so we got right up close to some of the animals. Got some amazing photos of lions and white tigers.

Admission cost was about £10 but was definitely worth it. I would recommend getting there when the park opens to avoid the crowds.

This is a really good day out. We used tesco days out vouchers to go, and in the winter you get free return tickets. You can spend a whole day there driving around. You are allowed to feed and stroke some animals - its clearly signed which! There is then a walk around area with all the bugs and fish and stuff and a sealion show, as well as other opportunities to touch animals. Shop and cafe are good. There’s a fairground in the summer too but I havnt been to it. Kids from about 6mths can enjoy it as the animals are so close - easier for them to spot them than in a zoo.

We have mixed feelings about this place. On the plus side there’s plenty to do and the show we saw in the penguin area was entertaining and informative. On the other hand parts of it were fairly tacky, and it seemed very expensive for what it was -- the free return visit wasn’t much of a bonus when we’d travelled over 100 miles for the day in the first place. The kids (our two are aged 3 and 5) had a good time and so we would consider going again -- but it’s not a high priority on our list of must-do days out.

Great day out…reasonable priced as you get a return ticket for free…Go midweek in term time the park is very quiet so great for preschool children. Driving round safari you can see giraffes wolfs lions tigers camals all close up Though I miss the fun of the monkey enclosure which they use to have years ago.
The fair rides are tickets or wristband. They also have a seal show which is great for toddlers and gives parents a chance to sit down…The bat enclose is meant to be good but I never been brave enough to go in!!!!
Returning to your car its nice to have a picnic on the grass before returning home…GREAT DAY OUT

We miss this place since we’ve moved. It is really good value for money and whenever we’ve been we’ve had a voucher given to us for a free return trip in the same car we came in (which is great if you don’t lose the voucher!) I would recommend going when the weather isn’t too brilliant (we’ve been when it was snowing!) and you probably won’t have to queue for too long to get around the safari bit. There’s a really interesting mix of animals to see including white tigers, white lions, wolves and African Wild dogs. The non safari bit is well worth a look round too. I especially like the bat enclosure (they fly around you) but I can see that that wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste!

We never walk as far as the funfair bit as that tends to double the amount of money you spend on your day out, and, of course, take a picnic with you, or you’ll treble the money!

really nice day out, bit of a queue to get in but once you in its worth the mony. Plenty of animals to see and you can kind off go at your own pace, once you’ve seen them you can then go to the funfair and see the sea lions perform, an ideal day out for the family - we return yearly

Upon entering the Safari Park it’s advisable to make a quick toilet stop before entering the animal section as once you’re in it can take up to two hours to get round depending on how busy it is.

The tour enables you to get up close (sometime very close) to the animals of which there is a very good variety ranging from antelope to elephants. The 'Big Cat’ section is particuarly good with Lions, Tigers, Cheetahs & the gorgeous white lions. All the animals are well kept & the enclosures are very open.

Once you finish the tour WMSP has a huge amount to offer both adults & children. There are additional animal enclosures that can be viewed on foot (our daughter loved the seals which could be viewed underwater), educational presentations, gift shops & a rather large funfair.

With regards the funfair it’s advisable to get a wristband otherwise you have to buy tokens per ride which soon becomes expensive; the wristband allows unlimited access to all rides, subject to height restrictions.

The restaurant offers a variety of food baguettes for the healthier people & hot meals (w.chips) for everyone else. A bar is also on site if required.

Toilet facilities are adequate.

All in all WMSP is a great day out for the whole family with good attractions, facilities & there is plenty of on offer to fill the day.
