Dublin Zoo is conveniently situated in the famous Phoenix Park, official home of the President of Ireland. The zoo is massive and takes a good four hours to walk around. Each wild animal enjoys most spacious accomodation with great viewing panels in every cage and enclosure. Visitors can get right next to the tigers and this seems to thrill the children and adults alike! If you enjoy photographing wild life, this is the place, which seems much larger than London Zoo. The best time to to is in the morning and an early start is advisable due to the large amount of walking that is involved. Dublin Zoo is well served by public transport, it can be reached on foot within ten minutes from the nearby Luas tram stop , or a taxi from the city centre is quite reasonably priced. After your visit to Dublin Zoo, you will find Phoenix Park is rich in history and is a great spot for a family picnic.

I visited the zoo on a trip to Ireland and it is brilliant.
We got there an hour after it was open and all ready there was a fairly large queue and it wasn’t as if the weather was fabulous.
Once we were in the crowds dispersed and drifted off.
The zoo is really well set out with different sections build and designed to replicate the natural environment of the animals housed there. The animals look well looked after and the zoo is spotless.
There’s also a really cool discovery centre where lots of informative talks are given or displays shown.
There are plenty of areas around the zoo to take a rest or stop for refreshment and all the facilities are well maintained and clean.

All in all a brilliant day out

Dublin Zoo is definitely Ireland's biggest and best zoo. It's the second oldest zoo in Europe, and the third oldest in the world (if you believe the literature I've found on google). It's got an important cultural and historical location, namely the Phoenix Park, one of the largest enclosed city parks in the world, and home to the country's president, (Áras an Uachtaráin). The Irish are definitely proud of Dublin Zoo and various births, arrivals and developments in the Zoo are regularly reported in the media.

Personally, I have so many priceless childhood memories that centre around this zoo. It is wonderfully themed; the Zoo has specific areas designed to suit/closely reproduce the natural habits of all species. Therefore, the visitor gets a good idea of what it would be like to experience these animals in their own environments. For example, animals suited to the sweeping 'African Plains' are kept separate and distinct from those who would exist in the 'The Kaziranga Forest Trail'. It is also impressive that this standard of housing and care is applied in terms of animal welfare. Above all things, the animals environments are safe, suitable and as naturalistic as possible. All animals at this zoo are visibly flourishing and well-kept.

One word of warning: this zoo gets very busy. It is popular with tourists and locals alike! Queues outside the zoo are a regular occurence, especially at weekends. Therefore, arrive early. Weather is not a deterrent, so prepare for queues even if it is raining! I promise you it is worth the wait. I would happily spend hours walking around, just to make sure I saw everything. It is probably one of the most perfect family experiences that Ireland has to offer, in my humble opinion.
