The University sports complex provides a number of facilities for the many sports clubs of the university. Although the facilities for these are adequate, the gym at the centre is poor at best and hardly befits a University supposedly at the forefront of university sports. There are only 4 treadmills, 4 crosstrainers, 6 bikes, 2 crossramps and 6 rowers, with about 7 weights machines. If you go at peak times, it is almost certain you will have to queue. Alongwith this, there is NO ventilation in the gym area, with only two fans at the corner of the room. If you can afford it, go to one of the commercial gyms; however, if you’re a student like me and paying £40/yr you can’t complain!

Please note, that I have not used the rugby pitch, track, swimming pool, climbing wall etc and cannot comment on the quality of these.

I used to use this sports complex ALOT. A great track and probably one of the best uni sports centres in the country. Excellent value for students and great for a bunch of different sports. If you are into rowing, running, weights, football, rugby, tennis (Hell, practically any sport) this is the place to bein Oxford.

Iffley Road is Oxford University's sport centre and serves as a general leisure centre for the surrounding area. It's famous for being the place where Roger Bannister ran the first 4 minute mile, and this, alongside other interesting parts of its history are recorded in displays around the centre. Much of the centre is only available to club training sessions, but if you join a club, you'll get access to gymnastics equipment, marshal arts fighting sticks, diving gear, fencing weapons and all manner of unusual sports equipment. Most clubs meet at least once a week, so it's worth checking out the university website or enquiring at reception if you're interested in one. There are lots of rooms including a gym, an aerobics room, a swimming pool, badminton courts, and, for the less sporty, a cafe with computers. The changing rooms are spacious and clean and there are handy vending machines on the top corridor. There's even a little climbing wall, although once again, this is for members of clubs only. There are mats and pilates exercise balls dotted around the corridors, which can make it a bit awkward to carry gear along, but it's always entertaining to see someone in an obscure yoga position in the middle of a corridor. All in all, these are top class facilities and well worth a visit.

You can't help but be proud of Iffley Road sports centre. This facility is brilliant. I love going down here to watch rugby games and i've been thinking about joining the gym for ages.... I'll get round to it one day! Historic and state-of-the-art, this is one of Oxford's sporting treasures.

A great sports complex in the centre of Oxford. This is Oxford university's main sports centre for Athletics, Football, Tennis, Rugby, Basketball etc. The facilities are top notch (arguably some of the finest of any uni in the country) and, unbenknownst to some, the facilities are also open to the general public.

If you are a student, the monthly fee is about £35 (and not much more for the general public). This is a great price considering some of the Fitness First et al rip offs you find these days.

Grass tennis courts, state of the art rowing equipment, rugby pitch with grandstand and the track where Roger Bannister broke the 4 minute mile. Sports facilities don't get much better than this.
