Once good for a packet of crisps, a pint and a good stabbing this well located outlet has been completely re-invented as a gastro sports pub. The decor is lavish with dining tables intermingled with book cases and irresistable leather sofas. Never has the name 'public house' been so appropriate as it feels like an improbably large private reception room. Apart from the plasma screens that is.
Under new British ownership there is a plasma screen everywhere you look, often with 3 different events going on simultaneously. It is sportstastic. Escape is futile. 24/7 wall to wall cricket or croquet - its there. This is fine in the bar area but distracting in the dining area (and so uncouth in my books to have sky sports on over a salmon steak)
Still the overall ambience is an alluring combo of sofas and screens clearly aimed at local Fulhamites and Antipodeans. The food is very good if you get away from the bar menu and the staff are still full of the optimism that comes with a new venture.
Its not often that a barman throws his hand over the bar and introduces himself in a genuine gesture towards a potential new regular. I wish them well.
ps free wireless broadband which is great for quieter moments

This pub has changed! Oh wow! I just love the decor and the finishing touches are so original it’s inspiring. The new owner is actually a Londoner who has no intention of creating a sports pub but wants to accommodate all wallets and wants. There are 3 plasma screens but only all on for big games (England rugby we hope) and the food is great honest English Pub fair! If you in for the cricket then have a seat at the bar but in for supper then relax in the great restaurant area for one of the daily specials. I just can't say enough about this place, its soo perfect.
This is my new local even though I have to walk past the Ship and Sands End to get there!
