De Rokerij
Lange Leidsedwarsstraat 41
near Leidseplein
The original location of this 4-shop chain is mixed in between all the restaurants in the Leidseplein area and I’d have to say it’s my favorite coffeeshop in Amsterdam. It’s actually hard to find unless you are looking closely for it, but once you find it you’ll discover that it’s usually packed inside. There is a really classy Indian theme in the place, and live DJs playing chill tunes on weekends. They used to sell booze and the wait staff always consisted of stunning women, but it’s still really nice anyway.
I'd highly reccomend to Rokerij for anyone wishing to enjoy the ahem delights this enchanting city has to offer. I was here over Christmas, and everything was amazing from the whipped-cream-topped hot chocolates, to the calm friendly reaction of the staff who helped when my partner decided to introduce the food shed eaten at FEBO to my leg. ;) Overall, a fantastic coffeeshop, highly commended!

This was the first coffee shop I visited during my stay in Amsterdam. My first impression of the place was that it looked quite scary inside! It took us a while to get served (for drinks), but apart from that the experience was great. The staff were willing to help and gave us some great advice.

It’s real nice, baby. The combo of scatter cushions and being seated close to the floor is ace when in Amsterdam and you’ve forgotten what your name is. I’ve only been there in the day so remember the place fondly as a chilled out, cool atmosphere with a nice mix of people and happy enough staff.
Reasonable prices for the area and a good drink selection as well as the other, so roll up, sit back and prepare to chill as much as humanly possible. Only be ready for getting up and out and doing something else with your day being a distinct difficulty.

This cafe is a good introduction to the Amsterdam Coffeehouse experience. The interior is North African themed; wooden seats and cushions, with hypnotic ceiling fans and carved wood decor. They sell all you would expect from a Coffeeshop, coffee and many many herbal teas, juices, cake and of course the naughty stuff. They have a good menu of the latter, and the staff are always willing to recommend something. It can get quite crowded on an evening, which, when combined with the loud and rhythmic music, can be overbearing, but during the day it’s a perfect place to just sit and chill. It’s far enough away from the Red Light district to mean that you don’t just get stoned stag parties sat next to you. It’s also smack bang in the restaurant area, albeit the touristy one, so getting something tasty afterwards is no problem.
Their beermats are quite cool too, a perfect souvenir to remind you of times you may have difficulty remembering ;)

Rockery is certainly an experience. Forget the Bulldog chain, come here and relax under celing fans that take you straight back to Apocalypse Now. They rotate really slowly. Which can be disconcerting!
Seating is comfy, and you can lean back as far as you need to...
