The flying pig is probably the best hostel in Amsterdam. I actually stayed here for a business trip, and the one slight down side is we found the Dutch definition of "twin" room is much closer to the English one of "Double". Expect to share a bed. With your friends.

Still, this is Amsterdam after all, so no worries. The hostel is perfectly situated being right next to both the Vondelpark and Leidsplein, where you can find decent clubs (Paradiso), coffee shops (Rokerij) and museums (the van Gogh museum, the Stedelijk museum and the Rembrandt museum are just around the corner). It's not super-cheap, but it is super-friendly, great fun staff, a bar that gets some traction, guitar, beanbags, and a lot of very very chilled out folk. Recommended.
