I went to the surgery on Harley street and was reassured by the professional feel of the place. My consultation was with a nurse who told me that they use a brand new type of implant called 'Silicone cohesive gel' it's the best money can buy and the only way that it may rupture would be if you had a car accident, even then the gel would remain inside like a gummy bear. I was so happy to have found such a safe implant that I paid a deposit on the spot.
The operation itself went okay. Unfortunately I hadn't been measured properly so the implant size didn't do much for my body shape but that I could live with. The nightmare didn't begin until December 2011. I was heavily pregnant and found out about the pip scandal. After twice contacting the clinic I received the reply that my implants were indeed the dreaded pips - the cheapest rubbish on the market. I was desperate to breastfeed but in order to do that I wanted a scan to see if my implants had ruptured so I didn't put my baby in any danger. After weeks of waiting I received a letter from hmg giving details of clinics with scanners - WITH A PRICE LIST! We had to pay for our own scans! I was 8 months pregnant and couldn't eat or sleep through worry. HMG never replied to my emails or letters. I got the very latest information about the implants at the time from my midwives. They worked hard to get me an ultrasound scan on the NHS but I didn't get my appointment until after my son had been born. Unfortunately the only advice they could give me at the time he was born was not to breastfeed. I was devastated. The Harley Medical Group took my money and assured me I was buying a quality implant (of which I was not given the choice of implant or manufacturer) and then they abandoned me and thousands of other women like me. I felt as though I was living in a horror film and those responsible were allowed to get away with doing that AND continue to practice as if nothing had happened. Do not risk it, do not consider using the Harley Medical Group for any procedure.
