Big John's Fast Food

not the best quality of chips ive tasted the staff arent that bothered either and the fact i found a rubber band in with my chips says it all really , i really didnt want to even give them a * rating either but hey ho !

A lot of hype but it doesn't live up to expectations. There are better alternatives out there. I ordered a chicken meal, it was late and it tasted rank. Never again

Like Brummygolds earlier review I used to go to Big Johns in Selly Oak when it first opened there around 10 years ago and the food was tasty and reasonably priced.
In the last few years I’ve only visited it a handful of times as I boycotted it some years back due to the ignorant member of staff who took my money and then kept me waiting for nearly 20 minutes whilst I was carrying my daughter on my arm, after getting fed up of waiting and seeing other people come in after me and leaving with their food I asked him why I hadn’t got my food yet? he said that I should have asked for it! this is after HE took my order and then just ignored me. I told him in no uncertain terms that he was the server and he should be aware of who has been served and who is waiting for their food. He started arguing with me then the Manager came over and asked what was going on. He started speaking Punjabi to the Manager and basically was blaming me. This guy was pure stupidity on legs, being Asian myself his braincell didn’t tell him that I may be able to understand what he was telling the Manager, I told the Manager what had happened after which he told the server to get on with his job and apologised to me and offered me a free can of pop which I politely declined.
That was several years ago and I swore I’d never grace them with my custom again. However I was forced to go back on my word when the kids wanted chicken and chips on a Sunday afternoon and nowhere else was open within a reasonable distance. I was glad to see that the moron who I’d fallen out with was nowhere to be seen and I was served by another young lad who’d looked like he’d just got out of bed, eyes all red and speaking in grunts, I ordered the chicken and chips x 3 and asked for pieces of leg as per my kids requests. I wasn’t watching him take out the pieces but another customer who was watching him looked over at me a couple of times but didn’t say anything, this got me thinking that she’d seen something I hadn’t so when he gave me my food I asked him to confirm he’d given me leg pieces and he grunted yes in a not too convincing manner, I told him that I didn’t want to have to come back and he reconfirmed that I’d got the pieces I asked for.
I sat in my car right outside the shop and my suspicious nature got the better of me, sure enough I opened the boxes and he hadn’t given me leg pieces, I was livid, I stomped back into the shop put the box under his nose and said to him “Is that a leg?” he got all sheepish and apologised and then changed it for a leg.
Now I don’t know where Big Johns gets its staff from and I can only speak of my experience in the Selly Oak store but I’ve found the staff there to be ignorant morons who shouldn’t be allowed to look at customers never mind serve food to them.
This is my first review so apologies for droning on but this reflects the strength of my dislike for this store. The food is well below average and the “low” price is no consolation. If you want real tasty food look elsewhere in Selly Oak, if you want something to fill your belly after a few beers then Big John’s your man.

Big Johns, what can I say. The food is great for the price. Low cost top quality fast food, they’ve really hit the nail on its head with the service they provide. Always satisfied when I visit!

I visited Big Johns in Leicester on 19/03/11, with as a group of 6 (2 adults, 4 kids). we were there for approx 1.5 hrs, and the food was great.

HOWEVER.....2 wks later i get a parking fine for £75...WTF...reason being that i stayed over an our, and apparently there is a sign there which says no parking over an hour....Never again going here again, this is so dumb!...since the place was mostly empty...

I don't know who the owners are, but show some intelligence and a bit of discretion...we spent over £30..when i spoke to the manager he didn't want to know or show any symapathy ....in the future i'll take my custom elsewhere

Big Johns may be a chain,but there is a lotter better out there.There is a reason the prices are so low there

i went to big johns ACOCKS GREEN yesterday and thought the service was absolutely fantastic!!!! i was served fully within 5 minutes and teh manager seemed to make sure that all teh customers before and after me were all happy and had their correct order! the person serving me smiled and made casual conversation which will definitely get me to come back more often!! Well done BIGJOHNS for finally employing teh right kind of staff and hats off to the manager who put a smile on my face!!

just as a small point though- could we have a freebie with our orders during the christmas period???

i would never eat from this place again the chips were like they was made in dirty fat, the savaloy was wrinkly an snapped in half litterally snapped, the shish kebabs tasted like they were made a month ago all 6 went in the bin the salad on my kebab was off and tasted awful the meat was dry and tasted horrible so all the food we ordered went in the bin an apart from that half the things i payed for was not in the bag when i got home poorly run an dirty place i strongly advise not to eat from this place

I have used Big Johns ever since it first opened in Selly Oak over 10 years and for the first few years it was a good place to get good quality food at a fair price. Since the refit about 5 years ago i noticed that the food had gone downhill to the point where i decided no longer to go to Big Johns. Anyway i thought id give Big Johns another chance tonight to see if things had improved since my last visit a while ago. To conclude i must say that the food was not nice at all, the chips tasted like they had been cooked in stale old oil and were sickly , the kebab meat was dry and not tasty at all. It was that bad i couldn't eat it and it ended up in the bin. Never again will i be buying food from Big Johns.

Oh, Big John, you must be a very big man indeed, a lover of all food. You welcome every type of fast food with open arms, not discriminating against any offering of greasy, calorie-addled junk. And we love you for it.

Nowhere else in Birmingham can you go at all hours of the day or night to find such a mish-mash hodge-podge of fast food. Curry, kebabs, pizza, Chinese, burgers, fish and chips, chicken sandwiches, fish shop chips, curly fries, lions, tigers and bears, oh my!

Big John's is a big, dirty take-away hub of delectable treats listed above. There are no seats, you just queue up and order your food. There are about 8 tills, and every time I've been there, it's needed them, as the queue at each one has been about ten people long.

The pizza here is soooo good, very freshly made, with a large one coming in at £11, and feeding four people easily. The chicken breast sandwich is really tasty and fresh, and the fries are nice and crisp.

Big John's only accept cash, so you have to be prepared for your trip there. But trust me, and Big John -- you won't be disappointed.

Take every kind of fast food you can think of, throw in some random extras such as curry, and you've got the ultimate fast food takeaway experience. There are quite a few Big John's restaurants throughout Birmingham, although the experience is much the same no matter which you go in. The takeaway selection is far and away superior to anywhere else I've been, without sacrificing quality in any aspect of the affair. Sure, you may find better chips elsewhere in town, or better pizza, but for the family who can't make up their mind which fast food they want to eat on a given Friday night, Big John's is your best friend. They also do 20" pizzas with multiple topping combinations, making catering at house parties easy as pizza-pie.

The Selly Oak branch of the chain enjoys a few quirks you might expect from being located slap bang in the middle of studentville, such as hilariously random drunken singalongs, ridiculously cheap "recession buster" food offers, and the like. Occasionally you'll get loudmouths and troublemakers paying the place a visit, but the staff are admirably professional and often the customers will pitch in to resolving any hassle without anyone having to get hurt, or arrested.

You can tell the guys in here love the drunken banter that usually results from visiting a place like this. Lots of different fast food, the cheesy chips are good (on a par with adams place) and if you go towards the end of the night you might get some freebies - depends on who is working. at busy times you have to wait a while so time your visit properly!

we love big johns in west brom. i always go through the driver thru and never have to wait long for our order. you'd think with prices that cheap the food would be vile but it isnt i had a chicken meat and chips today only 99p the chicken was beautiful better then anywere else ive eaten in west brom. its geat!!!! dont know where id be without it. my daughters 3yrs old and she loves there milkshakes plus its open till 5am on fridays and saturdays. my husband is not so keen though sour puss....

Big Johns is a bit out of the main Selly Oak area but its still worth a visit. Their large pizzas are brilliant and you can have every topping on it from the selection which makes a great pizza. The one pound deals are great value, but dont visit at about 4:00pm on a saturday as it gets very busy and the queue will be quite tedious. Other than that the food is good and its quite cheap.

This place is perfect after you have been to the pub, when you order a pizza you get to choose what toppings you want, they have loads to choose from and the pizzas come in different sizes.
They also sell milkshakes, burgers, nuggets, kebabs, onion rings
They do some very good deals on their food.I think it 99p for a slice of pizza and chips

The prices are very good and its very clean too.

i dont mind big johns, its cheap fast food.
nothing special but they have a nice range and you get served quick enough.
its right by the train station, so its ideal for ppl catchin the train etc, its on the main road, so easily accessable.
its open late which is fab for people comin out the pubs etc.

I haven’t been to Mcdonalds for a couple of years now, me and my family all go to any Big Johns we are close to. I love the taste of their food and the prices are cheap too. Especially peri peri chicken with chips and milkshake!!!

Went to the new Big John’s in West Brom last night and I was expecting the wait and we did have to wait 25mins to get served so no problem as long as the food was good …but my god it was DIRE !
The place was filthy with food all over the floor and tables, no staff cleaning up, the staff were poorly trained and when I placed my order of Balti Chicken & chips for me, Pizza for the daughter & Wife and a cheese burger for my son the server got the cheese burger ready put it in a bag then my chips, then strolled along chatting and laughing with the other giggling servers, got my rice in a plastic carton and placed it in the microwave for a bit, then put that in the bag (by this time it was 5 mins since the burger was put in the bag)...strolled along again to get my chicken balti in another plastic carton, microwaved that one also then put that in the bag, then told us to go to another pizza counter to get our pizza made up and cooked… by this time it was over 10 mins since the original burger and chips were put in the bag….we went to the counter to wait another 10 mins for someone to serve us, make up the pizza and cook it for a further 10 mins !!!.....All of this time ment the food in our bag was STONE COLD and it wasn’t until complaing many many times about this and threatened to demand my money back that someone with more than one brain cell decided to act “I will keep this warm for yo”....YES under a light !!!
Got home 500 yards from the Big John’s and threw it in the bin….it was ruined !!

First and LAST time I go to Big John’s and after this experience I would think that this time next year the place will be boarded up with a bit of luck !!

As far as fast food goes, Big John’s seems to have it covered…Fish and Chips, Fried Chicken, Kebabs, Indian Food, Pizzas….this place will please a lot of appetites and the prices are not bad either. They have 'credit crunch’ busting deals at the moment which offer food at ridiculously low prices!

Well staffed, clean and professional. Good 'Mc Donalds-style’ milkshakes too…. recommended!

i just visited big johns drive thru in water links birmingham with my family, we ate in, am a fast food freak, so i now my fast food, i must admit there food is second to none, and the price is a little dear but not expensive.
but the only think i was very disappointed from was there lack of hygene, tables were dirty, with other customers food left over, and the toilets, very very filthy, the floor had food all over it, i can understand the fact that it was busy, but thats not the point, if your dealing with customer satisfaction, you must do your best to keep up standerds.
i have never liked Mcdonalds food, and havent ate from there in last 10 years, i thought this outlet was a good sobstitute, but although i’l give 9/10 for food. the hygene was 2/10.
good luck for the future but i wount be coming back again.
