Herbi Vores is an excellent stop-off point for students or employees of the University of Manchester. Especially if you dig the vegetarian vibe. Conveniently located on the doorstep of the John Rylands library, you’ll find a relaxed environment to chill-out in, friendly staff and an all round understanding that this is a place to de-stress in. Despite not being the most adventurous of choices on the menu, the peanut butter sandwich is great. I’m not certain as to whether or not Herbi Vores is subsidised by the University of Manchester, but the prices are always reasonable. Recommended.

If you’re one of those unfortunate enough to have to practically move into the John Rylands library come exam time, or you’re simply in between lectures, the Veggie Cafe is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat to get you through the rest of the day. There you can find cheap, wholesome, home cooked food which is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Situated underneath the Burlington Rooms right next to the library, queuing up for your food like you did at school may evoke some negative feelings, but the food here is not like the school dinners you may remember.

The soups served are always tasty and welcome on a cold Manchester day, as well as the quiches or lasagne which are usually available, but look out for the specials that they have everyday as they actually are special. I once had garlic mushroom and cheese stuffed pancakes which still make my mouth water just thinking about them.

If after you’ve eaten you still have room for more, or if you’re just putting off your return to the library, there are lots of tasty sweets on offer, from brownies and flapjack to cakes and crumbles, which you just have to try.

Worth a visit, even for non-vegetarians.

If you are on or around the Manchester University campus near the main building, this tiny little veggie cafe is a must for those on a bit of a budget looking for some healthy, wholesome and cheap food. Pretty much everything sold is suitable for vegetarians and the courgette and peanut soup with soda bread is particularly AMAZING!!! A cup o tea is only 80p too....bonza!

"That little vegetarian café next to the library." Apparently it is also called Herbi Vores. Either way it offers great vegetarian fare at good prices. The place is also decorated with loads of old Guiness adverts espousing the health benefits of said drink!

It's not really much to look at otherwise being, located as it is, in a basement. Oh well, the food is great and they do good tea too. Check it.
