well im afraid i disagree completely the food was refreshingly unfussy and I have since happily taken a cab across town to impress my friends with the whole experience, “As a vegetarian i find most restaurants just don’t cut it, Im often as uncomfortable with my partners choice as his meat always stares at me :) but this place is a true testimony to what’s possible, everything has been ethically sort, everything is fresh (no commercially produced meat or seafood) The staff were great and answered my usually critical questions, I felt relaxed and happy and was bowled over by the high quality, I shall highly recommend this place for all the right reasons !” there’s so much more than looking at a plate gourmet chick :)

Just the place to eat if/when you’re off to the “flicks” at CPH! The prices will not break you and you will enjoy the food. Try the Blackened Soy Salmon…..right tasty!. Drinks are well priced and the coffee is superb. Rightly categorized, in my opinion.

Awesome place for lunch with good portions, cheap prices and nice staff... And Leffe on tap! Had the butternut, chive marscapone risotto (bomb!), mozzarella tomato avocado sandwich in yummy wheat seeded bread, and mushrooms with pesto rocket on toast. Fab lunch spot!

I tried this one a couple of weeks ago. Situated opposite the Clapham Picture House, there's not much to look at really from the outside. But it always seems really busy 'til quite late so I thought I'd give it a go.
The verdict for me was excellent food, great atmosphere, service was top-notch and the waiter looking after us was also very cute (added bonus) :)
The place is split into bar/restaurant. The restaurant is really small, up to 20 max I'd say.
The food was a 4-5 stars for me but funnily enough the decor did not match the food. Really old & damaged wooden tables, my chair was broken so they replaced it,...I guess it would have been ok if the food had been average. The food being so perfect, it was kind of a contrast.
But heyho, dunno anything about "modern art", maybe this was on purpose....:)

Take one baking hot London day, add a mid-afternoon video production meeting and a couple of creative types with a thirst for Peroni and The Rapscallion proved to be just the right sort of venue. Selected by my colleague and I for its name and the vacant table out front, it proved a very pleasant place to chew over some project ideas, squint happily in to the sunshine and refresh our senses with the aforementioned lager.
I’d happily have stayed for more drinks and potentially dinner - the menu looked great - but more work beckoned and I regretfully took my leave.

The best thing about the Rapscallion is the service - it is really very good. I thought the actual restaurant was slightly tired looking and maybe functioned better as a bar than a restaurant. The menu was quite appealing and broad ranging with a range of European and Asian influenced dishes, however when our food came out we were a bit disappointed as it was quite fussy and overcooked. I would say it is a reasonable local place for Claphamites (is that what you call them?) but not worth trekking across town for. Full review at www.gourmet-chick.blogspot.com.

A very decent little restaurant opposite the Clapham Picturehouse on Venn Street. The service was very good in here last night. We felt well looked after for the entire evening. The rib eye steak was tender and juicy and came with a generous portion roast potatoes and mixed veg. The cheese board afterwards was great and came with some particularly good cheddar, olives and grapes!
The only thing letting this place down is the size of the dining area (tiny) and the subsequent noise. Still, it was quite nice eavesdropping on the couples conversation next door to us. Apparently Boris Johnson is already doing a stellar job, it’s going to rain at Ascot on Friday and the refrigerator light keeps on flickering, so we’ll need to get it changed :)

I guess it depends on how interesting the person you are having dinner with is…

Half buried hatchet. I see. I guess i will have to be very nice to her over the next couple of days…... :)
Where does one go to get the best cocktails in SW4? The Rapscallion, surely! From the extensive knowledge of the bar staff, to the quality and presentation of the drinks, to the alcohol content and mint hit of the mojito and the intimate funky feel of the place, I just can’t imagine a better place to drink. But there’s more.
More? I hear you ask as you turn back, momentarily lost in curious wonderment. Isn’t that enough?
For most places, yes, but the rapscallion comes biting back with it’s top draw Eurasian menu and excellent service. From chicken wantons and blackened cod to ribeye steak the feel of this food it truly modern cooking, and is simply delicious. If you can get a table, come for dinner and have some cocktails as well. Word of warning, though, don’t let them fob you off with their sister restaurant over the road. It’s nowhere near as nice.

The fish and seafood here is beautiful, they serve both classic dishes and recipes with a modern twist. One thing I really love is that they change their menu frequently so there’s always something new and seasonal to try. On the drinks front, they serve a really wide variety of good beers. Everything is well priced too. It’s right opposite Clapham Picturehouse, so a good place to go before you watch a film!
