I have been several times to this hair dressers over the years, as it's close to where I work and much better prices than most central London salons. If you want fancy décor, glass of wine, someone purring over your hair and talking about their fancy holidays and houses (which you could never afford because all your money has gone on coming to the salon, so that they can afford it!), then this is not the place for you. But if you actually want a decent hair cut, from friendly staff, then this is what you get at Marcello's in my experience. My last visit I wanted highlights to blend into a growing-out full head of colour, and the skill with which the girl (don't know her name, unfortunately) did it was very impressive. She was careful and patient, and I was absolutely delighted with the result. And the best testimony - many people commented on how nice my hair looked, including critical friends and family!

Like the reviewer above I went to Marcello's because of a 10% off voucher and also because my regular hairdresser was ill and I needed to find a new salon fast. I had booked in person and made it clear that i needed a stylist that could work with fine hair and was assured that this would not be a problem. Huh! In spite of the chap taking nearly a hour to blowdry my fine har, the style collapsed within minutes of leaving the salon and in spite of the hairpsray which I had asked for. Oh and they're not particularly friendly either so I really wouldn't bother!

I have read the comments above and I am somewhat surprised at the negative comments. I have been a regular custimer at Marcello's nearly 6 years now since I have been going there to have my hair done. To be honest in between I have tried other places just to see the difference but I have always returned to Marcello because of the good service they provide and also for the price. I have found that Marcello always listens to what I have to say and advises me accordingly. He has so far never done anything without me giving him the green light, the only ytime he would do something of his own accord is when I'd ask him to judge what I need and surprise me. I feel I need to defend him against these negative comments as I think he is brilliant and very patient and trust me I am not the easiest person to please especially when it comes to my grooming. I have recently had a brazilian blow-dry done there and it was very reasonably priced and I was well pleased with the result. It is true that staf have changed over the years but then again where is it that people stay constantly. In any event the staff have always been pleasant and they always ask if you need anything and are always offering you teas and coffees and sweets. I would not knock them down and I would actually recommend people to try the salon and make their own minds up.
Anyway from me it is 100 out of 100. I rate them high.

I have come to this site to just grab the phone number as I seem to have misplaced it and I thought I would add my review.

Personally I have had absolutley no problems at Marcello's. Store is always clean, Marcello is nice and even offered me a Mamosa on a Friday afternoon :)

I usually get my hair cut by Christina. She listens exactly to what I want and now has it down to a fine art and today will be about the 6th time I have gone back. Granted I am a man and my cut shouldn't be that difficult but I highly recommend this place.

I pay £20 for a wash, a cut and another wash which is excellent value in this expensive city. A 'salon' down High Holborn wants £50 for the same service?! Ouch!

Anyways they are open convenient hours, the haricut's are great and the service is nice....would have no hesitation in sending anyone there.

Cheers

Review of Marcello Hair Design from 31 January 2011

I have been to Marcello's three times, and each time the service and hair cuts have got steadily worse.

I discovered the salon after being given a voucher for 10% off on the street. The prices were very reasonable, especially for London, so I thought I would give it a go as I hadn't had a haircut for a while and was going out that evening.

When I first walked in there, I got bad vibes. It's quite shabby to look at and the staff seemed somewhat cold towards me, making me wait for about 10 minutes before even washing my hair. There was only one person having a cut at the time, and two staff. However, I decided to give it a go because my hair really did need cutting! And I was pleasantly impressed. The woman who cut my hair really listened to what I wanted, didn't argue about which cut would suit me best and only advised what she thought would be best when I asked her. However, she didn't force me to have the haircut she thought I should have, but took on board what I wanted, which is what I think a hairdresser should do. She also spent loads of time styling my hair, at no extra charge, despite me being the last customer of the day. I walked out really happy with my hair, especially for the price, and thought I would definitely go back.

The second time I went was only for a fringe cut and a style, since I wanted my hair curled as it was my birthday. I had another really nice girl, the first one no longer worked there, so I agree with the comment above that staff turnover is quite rapid. She was pretty good although I noticed she was quite hesitant when it came to cutting my fringe in, and when I went home I actually had to cut some of the longer side bits which she'd missed. I was still quite happy overall.

Finally, I went a few days ago, and I will NOT be going back. I had the owner this time, and, even though I told him I only wanted a trim, he didn't listen to me and took about 4-5inches off my hair. He told me that's what I needed to 'make it healthy', although my hair is in really good condition anyway. I've never had such short hair before and I never would have chose to have because my face suits long hair. He didn't cut enough off my fringe, and even ask me about layers, instead just sort of randomly cut them in. The word my Mum used to describe it when she saw it was 'hacked'. I actually think it's the worst cut I've ever had.

They have lost a somewhat regular customer because they didn't listen to their client's wishes. I would advise anyone who goes there to definitely not have it cut by the owner, Marcello, and have the girl cut it. But only go if you want a cheap haircut, otherwise get it cut by someone more professional. I know I certainly will in future, although it's going to take months before I even need another haircut, because of the length it is now! Not impressed.

A cheap but not very cheerful salon right by Red Lion Square in Holborn. They are open from about 8.30 am which is handy and do the full range of hairdressing services for men and women, it’s a bit hit and miss though as the staff change quite rapidly, there used to be a woman working there who did very good cuts but she’s gone and has been replaced by a very rude woman who was so unpleasant I refused to let her cut my hair and insisted the owner do it instead. He’s a nice chap, really listens to you and goes out of his way to make sure you get exactly the cut you want, I had my hair cut from bob length to very short and was very happy with the result. I went back and had my hair bleached which wasn’t such a great experience, it was really yellowy despite discussing at some length the day before and having a sample of hair bleached in advance that I wanted white blonde hair. I had to go somewhere else to have it fixed which was costly to say the least!

So, good for quick cuts (you can be in and out of there in 30 mins if you’re in a hurry) but perhaps not for colouring.

Unfortunately, they didn't let you know that it can sometimes take two applications of bleach to get it white blonde. Therefore wwould have cost you more anyway. So having gone to have it done again somewhere else wasn't really the second attempt that was the amazing job but a combination of both.

Thanks for the advice, I use Alan D now and they always manage to get it white blonde in one go, Marcello's didn't use a white toner after the bleach whereas Alan D always do. No extra cost.
