The quality of the steak at this upmarket steak house is delightful. I have visited this place a number of times and have only had an average meal once (my steak was suppost to be cooked medium but was more like well done- only reason why it didnt get 5 stars from me). But I am reassured that the quality of the meat is excellent and you can certainly tell by the taste. A stylish, modern interior, excellent service and fresh quality food.. if you want a steak in Manchester then this is your place.

One of the best meals Ive had in Manchester.
As a special treat my partner and I decided to go slightly more upmarket than our usual dinner haunts, and chose Gauchos due to the positive reviews we read on here. We were definately not disappointed.
We were greeted and our coats were put in a special cupboard, which immediately made us feel fancy! The restraunt is very dark, and the chairs have a cool cow print on them. While this may come off as cheesy for some, I thought it was fitting with the theme.
The waiting staff were excellent, willing to give advice on which beer I may prefer, offering advice on what they tasted similar to. We were also shown a meat board, which showed the different cuts and we were given advice on the best way to have them cut. The only negative thing here was that the waiter was quite soft spoken, and afterwards I realised my partner hadnt heard everything he said over the music!
The food was amazing. We were advised that some of the staters are barely cooked to ensure the flavours are fresh, and that smetimes this confuses people and they return them barely touched. I went for a starter of Crab with avocado and quail egg, which was amazing. My partner had some delicious cooked fish cakes.
Of course the starters are meerly a warm up to the main course of the Steaks. I had a Sirloin, which was cooked perfectly. The steaks all come with a sauce served in a side dish, and I went for peppercorn which was delicious to dip in occasionally. My partner had the rib eye and the bernaise sauce, and this was also delicious. We both had fries as our side dish, and while these werent anything special they were ok. The only big disappointment was my partners steak - her final bite of the rib eye consisted primarily of fat which she wasnt really able to see because of the darkness of the room. While you can expect a rib eye to have a fair amount of fat in it, she had managed to spot the other parts and she was left with a fatty taste in her mouth without anything to take the taste away.
The deserts were ok, but nothing special and I expected a bit more for the price. I had a pancake, and my partner had a twice set chocolate cake.
Overall I was very happy with the starter and main, and would definatey return (if I had a fair amount of spare cash!)

Hmmm, well i'm torn in two by this review. The food is great, we wanted a fat, flavour-packed steak and thats just what we got. The staff bring over a tray of the various cuts and explain their characteristics. My rump steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was deep, rich and meaty. It's the best steak I have had in years and the Argentinians clearly have a magical way with cows
The price was ok, free chips and sauce thrown in but the steak was £22 so you get the feeling the credit crunch is being taken into consideration.
However, the decor leaves a great deal to be desired. Upon arrival we were surrounded by at least five staff in what looked like a nightclub entrance. We were then taken into the dining room which is a cavernous space, bereft of natural light and resembling a cheap nightclub. Black walls give way to cream leather sofas which are intermittently covered with faux cowhide. So while my steak was delicious the fact I was eating in Cruella DeVilles' dining room was a little less palatable.
The staff were polite and pleasant, yet had the over-rehearsed manner of a team who have been given a script to follow and it felt formal and slightly stiff.
This is neither here nor there of course, if you want a great steak it's the best place I know. I'll take a star away for the cow theme, but they deserve 4 for the beef.

Excellent! Do visit this steak house. My partner and I went at the weekend and managed to get one of the best seats in the house. Overlooking the resturant, the staff looked after us from start to finish.
I went for the fillet and my partner the rib eye, and, as other reviewer have already stated, they were the best!
Wine cellar was good as well.
It was a little pricey for me, but worth it!

Great restaurant. Cool building, interesting decor, and great food. I've been a few times and has been excellent every time.
If you like steaks, you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere that can better this place.
A bit pricey, but worth it.

Deservedly the number one ranked Manchester restaurant on Qype - the food here is absolutely top drawer.
A couple of birthdays ago, my wife and I racked a bill that was way north of £100 (starter, main, wine) but (even if I'd been paying!) I can honestly say it was worth every penny.
Outstanding starter of three types of ceviche, which is Peruvian/ Chilean/ Ecuadorian (they can't agree) in origin but all the rage in Buenos Aires. And a mouth-wateringly good marinated steak for my main, accompanied by a bottle of delicious malbec.
The best meal I've had in the UK and one of my top two ever.

Although a bit pricey, the food is great and the atmosphere electric.

We ate here last week for a friend's birthday. The food was lovely. I had a salmon starter and it was lovely. A nice spicy dressing that complemented the fish perfectly. Main course had to be steak. I went for a rib eye, medium rare with pepper sauce on the side. The steak did not need the sauce so I used it for the chips instead. There was a largish piece of fat on the edge of the steak that I would have preferred them to remove before cooking but apart from that it was perfect.
The service was exemplary. Our waiter was very knowledgable, eager to please, without being intrusive. The wine he recommended for us was nice too.
Decor-wise it's a nice place. Maybe a little too much cow-hide but it's fun. I would like to see the lighting raised a little in the bar though. It was that gloomy we struggled to read the drinks menu. That was just irritating. The whole restaurant is on the darker side, not something which I'm fond of really.
All in all, 4/5. I'd go again but it's not one of my favourites.

we went here the other week. the atmosphere is very cosy and well decorated...very modern though not too South American!!
I opted for the Patagonian seabass...yum!! and my partner a medium rib eye, which he seemed to enjoy immensely.
the prices are to be expected for a good grade restaurant so central in the city. I'd recommend it.
KAT.
