It is indeed the ULTIMATE picture palace.

Great films, great picturehouse atmosphere. There are only 2 doors - one in and one out - too funny.

Don’t look for the popcorn - there is none - but at least you can bring it and don’t have to pay more money :)

The toilets are literally in cupboards underneath the screen, lol.

Don’t expect a cinema ticket either - you’ll be given a raffle ticket.

This place really is too good to be true. It deserves the support of the locals.

Become a member and enjoy ridiculously cheap rates - especially if you are a senior citizen or student.

This is a great place to watch films as it offers a little something different. Many people are under the misconception that it only shows old black and white classics and really weird indie flicks - but that is not the case! They very often have on a blockbuster that has only just left the mainstream cinemas.

What i love about this place is possibly what other people hate. I love the holey seats which creak when you move. I love the slightly musty air. I love the wobbly screen. ITS SO OLD!!!
The gem is that you can bring your own cheap nibbles. No more spending £3.50 on a cola!! good times!

At least catch one film here - you will enjoy it.

How does this place survive? We went there for a Saturday matinée and there were only 10 people in the cinema. Which did mean that there was plenty of space and we could easily move round to avoid the seats with the holes in them.

On the plus side you get to see films you missed first time round and not just the normal blockbusters, you can take in your own sweets and drinks or buy ice-creams from the new G&D branch that has opened up on the other side of the Cowley Road. On the minus side it is cold, the screen can wobble a bit and you don’t get the atmosphere of sitting in a full cinema.

my first choice when it comes to catching a flick. constitently high quality of films which include the current blockbusters smashes and all those movies you wished you could have seen but where to young, not born yet or were to obscure when they first came out. when lends to the experience is the laid back feel to it all. cheap tickets and only one screen, which a very lax rule on having a few drinks when your in there.

it is everything that is good about an independent cinema

A great cinema. One of my favourites in the UK. They show a combination of Art Noveau and modern blockbusters here. You can easily see Jean de Florette one night and Transformers the next. There's only one screen in the UPP and it smells a bit like library in the theatre, but that's what is great about it. Loads of character and a great place to catch a film on the cowley road.
