Compliment

Armstrong’s has long been a favourite place for artistic, vintage dressed types. I love the atmosphere as you walk in and duck to dodge long hanging capes or dresses. The front room has lots of old, second hand kilt suits, jackets, dresses, hats and gloves. As you walk through to the other rooms there are wigs and fancy dress items. The back room is filled with vintage, patterned clothing which changes regularly. There are waistcoats and hats, cashmere jumpers and floral dresses. The stock isn’t as wearer friendly as it once was – a lot of items you would admire rather than buy, or buy as fancy dress. Up a few steps is a third room which contains old jeans and lots of beautiful leather and velvet jackets. I have purchased several coats from here over the years. The place has the feel of a market: it is laid back and welcoming and sometimes you are lucky enough to come across a gem.
