If you are going to concerts, you have to be prepared for the difficulties in getting away at the end: no matter which venue. You can’t blame Alton Towers for this. If you have a problem at AT, don’t even bother going to Glastonbury, Donnington, Wembley, the O2 arena, Knebworth, Milton Keynes Bowl, Earl’s Court etc., as these are often worse.
Accept it. If you are going to big gigs, there’s going to be a lot of traffic. Those of us who have been to many large concerts over the years have just got used to the fact that the infrastucture of the transport networks in the UK is simply not used to handling large volumes of traffic at one go. You just have to learn to allow time for getting away.
This is a national problem, not just one confined to Alton Towers. And £5 for parking was pretty good. It was £10 at Birmingham NEC (LG Arena) 2 years ago and the problems are still the same as you experienced.

Huge queue to get in, massive queues for rides (as always).. disgusting hotdogs ( went in the bin ).
All the big rides were broken down at some point during the day for long period of time, leaving you either stood even longer in the queue hopeful the ride would restart or leave the queue after standing there an hour already.
One bigger ride was off all day.
We were on Duel and it shut down mid ride.. stuck in ther tunnel we waited and waited for the staff member and no one came, so in the end we got out the car and walked out ourselves from a side door... the staff member came along just as we went to leave and happily told us that was a good door to leave from.
donuts gross! tasted like pure oil (even in donut standards!) and had some strange sugary substance on them, not real sugar but powder that tasted like artificial sweetener and with an almost salty odd back taste... more food in the bin.
We love rides and theme parks normally but felt utterly fed up most of the day.
pure money making fools who have lost the theme park plot. I wonder if the Talbot family that owned the hall for centurys would be proud of what its become or more so the efforts the owners go to to rob you blind these days? ;-)

I love alton towers! the rides and atmosphere are amazing, but I am a total thrill seeker! I’ve been many times over the years and the only complaint i’ve ever had is about the wasps in the summer and the queue’s, I hav many memories of me and my sister screaming and freaking out as were stuck in the long queue’s with LOTS of wasps in the summer. With regards to the queue’s, im not really complaining about these because although I don’t like them (who does?!) this is just part and parcel of going to a theme park! and it definitely would not put me off going back as the waits are definitely worth it in my opinion, infact I am planning on going this September which will hopefully mean the queue’s will not be as bad and there are a couple of new rides opened since last time I was there so I’m very excited! :) For anyone who just loves rides and theme parks then this is definitely the place to go.

I was very disappointed when I went to Alton Towers, by the service, not the rides. Don’t get me wrong, the rides were good fun, its just a pity the service wasn’t up to much….
A group of us went. We planned to go on Rita Queen of Speed. We looked at the queue, saw it was very long, so decided to buy fast-track tickets (which were an additional £5 per ride). All except one of us paid the £5 each in cash, one person paid on a card.
We then went to the fast track queue. Upon arriving at the gate, the young lady took our tickets off us, and allowed us to join the end of the fast-track queue.
Although we were in the fast-track queue, we still waited an hour and a half before getting nearly to the front of the queue, then, low and behold the ride broke down.
Everyone in the 2 queues (hundreds of people) had wasted hours of their time. We at least thought we could get our £5 back that we had paid out to be in the fast queue, right? Wrong!
We were told to go to customer service. We went there, explained what had happened, but they refused to pay our fivers back without proof we had been in the fast queue. Our tickets had been taken off us. We had no proof, except for the one person that had paid on a card, and had a visa receipt. That person got their fiver back, the rest of us lost our money.
Very poor service from Alton Towers, why would we queue up at customer services for about an hour as well if we weren’t being genuine and honest?
We weren’t looking to make a fiver, we just wanted our money back that when we didn’t get what we had paid for.
I won’t be going back, purely because of the poor ‘service’ the staff give.

I really used to love going to alton towers when i was younger, nemesis is amazing, oblivion as well although i was disappointed that i couldn’t look down on the way down. it sort of throws you outwards and you can see everything in the distance, seeing inside the tunnel near the bottom. The queues are horrendous and sometimes the fasttrack queues are nearly as long. i have tried to go on air 3 times but it always breaks down. The castle in the middle of the park is great and a nice bit of quiet time, a bit like 2 days out in one. You need to go back the next day to try everything out because the park is massive and the queues long.

review is for - ALTON TOWERS LIVE MUSIC CONCERT'S
absolute disgrace!
DO NOT HOLD CONCERTS/EVENTS IF YOU CAN NOT HANDLE THE AMOUNT OF VEHICLES LEAVING AT THE END!
Alton towers has always had a bad reputation for how bad it is leaving the lark at closing time. Not enough space to get out and country lanes for thousans of cars to manipulate their way out of.
Now Alton has the cheek to start having concerts and charge you parking fee's to park in fields! Then cant handle 50,000+ cars leaving s you all end up standed for 2 hours before you can even turn your engine on.
Having taken a 13 year old for her '13th' birthday(which was the following day) and got to the park at 3pm to assure a good place in the venue field ( in the pouring rain ).. then for The act to finally come on at 8.30, after they are fnished everyone herds themselves over to the fields where they had parked ( several large fields - which is a 45 minute walk through crowds ! ) and then not get home til 2am thanks to 3 hours spent trying to leave the park! EVERYONE felt the same and the thunder of beeping cars filled the air.
We commented to a police officer how ridiculous it all way and Alton should hold the venue if they couldnt cope with the atermath... his response was to shut up or get arrested! lovely.
One very, very tired 13 year old for her birthday the next day. Nice one Alton.
NO-ONE give Alton your cash by attending theseconcerts, unless you have all night to kill sitting in your car listening to car horns going off tha probably sound better than the act you just went to see!
If everyone who went paid £5 for parking... and 50,000 + people were there, maybe alton should considerputting some of tha cash towards a better exiting scheme..and a new road built to the park (long overdue!)
sort your cr*p out Alton... money money money ,thats all that matters eh?

Thescourt –
having been to many festivals I am well aware of these things….
I appreciate what you mean though and yes its pretty normal for crap to happen at large events time wise and parking.
But I am talking about alton here not Glastonbury. I could happily review those places too hahayes they are all… BUT just as they are does not excuse Alton – if i broke a leg last year and it hurt.. does that mean if I break it again I should say it hurts as I am aware it will hurt? ;-)
Still shocking set up by alton I am afraid.oh and btw.. alton is now £6 per car parking ;-) £7 next year no doubt.

Alton Towers is a good theme park to visit if you haven't already done so. It's home to some of the world's 'first' and unique coasters and the ever famous towers themselves. They are areas within the park for all types of ages. As I live quite near to the park, I've visited quite a few times and even work here. Through the perspectives of both the guests and the staff members, Alton Towers has two different ends of the spectrum. On one hand there is the park is 'somewhere magical' offering an array of bright colours and 'feel good' themes. On the other, since the arrival of their newest coaster thirteen and re-vamping of ug land, the majority of the park seems to take on many more darker and gothic themes such as gloomy wood, the dark forest, x sector and forbidden valley.
If it is your first time visiting the resort, it can be a lot to take in and can be quite confusing at times. Saying that, it is a fun day out for all the family and is really worth the trip. If you do come across a problem or get lost from time to time, there are plenty of staff members happy to help point you back on the right track.
There are a few things (in my personal opinion) that could be changed, reviewed or resolved around the resort.
The first thing is the infestation of wasps during the summer months. Traps were set up around the park but didn't really resolve the problem.
There were not many guests stung by wasps last season, it was mostly the employees. Although it can be off putting to guests as they get in the drinks, the food and clothes. I believe Merlin could've done more than just put up a few traps but at least they did something instead of nothing.
Another problem I have is the re-theme of cred street, the area for children aged 10 and under. I didn't really think that 'cloud cukoo land' was a better way to go. Most kids don't really seem interested in the theme anyway and is kind of an eyesore to the adults.
The only other issue I have is with the ongoing battle between Alton Towers and the residents of Alton. There have been lots of issues raised with the people who live in the town such as the noise. However, the owners of the resort, Merlin Entertainments have tried their best to respect the opinions of the townsfolk such as not being able to build above tree height, discontinuing the firework shows and having plans for a bypass to relieve the narrow bending roads leading up to the park of traffic rejected. I don't think they will ever win against the town but they will probably keep on trying.
Despite all that, the park and the hotels are mostly well themed and fun to visit. All you need to remember is to take care when driving to and from the park as it can become hectic at the end of the day when it closes and to have fun.

Went for two days staying in the splash landings hotel. Park is great fun for all ages. Food quite expensive but coming from St.Ives I'm used to that. The evening meal in the hotel is quite expensive if your a small eater as its an all you can eat buffet, but the food is good and there's lots of choice to choose from. Hotel rooms are clean and have everything you need for your stay. There are also family facilities - tumble dryers and washing machines which came in extremely useful the 1st day thanks to the torrential rain we encountered, though being in a group of 12 our spirits weren't dampened.
The two days went far too quickly and can't wait to return.

great if your a thrill seeker but if your not into that then this is not the place for you. there are new rides virtually every year. Nearly all the rides have hieght and weight restrictions so safety always comes first. There are a few rides for the younger ones but this part of the park is very dissapointing. It is disabled friendly exept the thrill rides, but the staff are usually willing to assist as they can.

Its a huge place with lots of rides and I suppose its great if your a bit of a thrill seeker but it was my first time there and I'm not really one for fast and high rides! I really enjoyed the rapids because it didn't really do much... i was forced to go on a rollercoaster, and I can't really comment much on the experience because I pretty much held my breath the whole time and refused to open my eyes!!! I did actually try to conquer my fear further by going on another rollercoaster, Nemesis, I qeued up for 30mins only to hear that there was a technical difficulty and the ride was closed!! Many other rides were closed due to similar difficulties which was dissapointing. Another ride that was very dissapointing was Oblivion. When we arrived at the que, the ride was 'stuck' and people were just sat half way up the ride for ages! Eventually it got going again only to face more difficulties about 15 minutes later. Not very reassuring! I suppose if you like rollercoasters and rides like that, then this place is for you, but the qeues are HUGE and the rides seem to break down often which is rather annoying.

Well built, with MASSIVE queues (40min for Thirteen, 20min for many, thankfully about 10min for several due to rain in the afternoon), this is a monster of a "theme" park. (the only "theme" i distinguished was the queues...) Although various areas have somewhat "themed" rides, or an attempt thereof. Perhaps that's where it comes from?
I sadly had a rubbish day. I'm not fond of roller coasters and just went along for the company. But it seems that unless you do go on the rushing manic things, waiting in line becomes dreary and painful... And there is nothing to do nearby (unless you want to pay £2 to kick a ball and attempt to knock 3 buckets off a platform) so it quickly becomes an awful waste of £19. (the price of 2-for-1 entrance) Queuing and being handed a mountain of clothes / phones / bags while everyone else goes off to have fun is rather ageing, and makes anything else in the meantime (including blowing your own nose) a challenge.
My favourite ride was Hex, as it messes with your mind rather than your body. Even then, my stomach took a good hour to recover. Yes, I am a wuss.
The food at the best of places (BBQ bar and grill) was out of the freezer, but surprisingly pretty good despite that characteristic flavouring.
Also, if anyone tells you that "air" is a smooth ride, that's complete $%*£!!! as it starts out with your face hurtling towards the ground. Twice. I have no idea what happens next, as I kept my eyes welded shut and focused on breathing until I could get off. I forgot I have a certain fear of heights... (oops)
Overall... I'd say if a ride-o-phobe ever goes along, then he/she should bring a book and forego the queues, sitting around in the (beautiful) gardens (which I didn't get to see much of) instead, and meet up with the others for lunch.
Looking forward to having kids now, so I can use them as an excuse (if I ever go back) to head straight for the kiddie rides instead. The effects / construction aren't as impressive (more boring than anything else) but at least I won't have to face another "air"-like construct ever again.

Alton Towers is without doubt the best theme park in the UK. Its rides are great and the setting of the park is awesome. Its a busy place especially during school holidays so make sure you get there nice and early. There are some nice places to eat such as the Woodcutters Bar and Grill and the Pizza and Pasta near the Rapids which is an all you can eat for one price place. My tip would be to keep an eye out for buy one get one free offers or book in advance. If you pay the on the gate price you must be nuts.
