Review of EL Metro from 10 March 2013
I booked a table last night for two. We were given a table opposite the bar and as diners came and went they brushed against me and stood immediately behind making a lot of noise, quite a distraction. The narrow space was also criss crossed by waiters so, all the tables opposite the bar were cramped. I found the food dry and overcooked. We shared a paella for two ( £20). The small, shell on prawns were very dry and tasteless. The pieces of chicken and fish were also very dry, the rice sticky and the one mussel I got on my plate was firmly closed. A bottle of rioja marques de caceres at £24 was a good wine. The puddings at £3.65, a spanish creme caramel and a tiramisu ( bit doughy without a discernible liquor bite) were ok. I think we were given complimentary olives. The music was quite loud. Our waiter was a friendly, affectionate spanish guy, probably the restaurant's best asset. The full price was about £70. We had also drunk a small bottle of mineral water each. There was an obligatory 12.5% service charge. The tapas looked overpriced, ranging £5-£8.50. In summary, loud, cramped, dry- overcooked food. I wouldn't go back.

Went there last night and had an awful experience. They didn't warn us that they would be showing football with the sound on and have a group of people cheering. The waiter didn't speak ANY english, tried speaking Spanish to us and was unable to tell us what the sauce of the day was. Ah, he also was more interested in watching football than taking our order, so got it wrong a couple of times before we finally managed to order by pointing at the menu. To be fair, baby sausages were pretty good, but iberico ham and lamb was seriously underseasoned. I don't know what this place thinks they are, but they are certainly not worth the prices to sit in a sports bar with bad wine, bland food and rude service.
go to bodeans next door, or even to the weatherspoons in fulham broadway.

To be honest, I think you are a really thick person. OF COURSE they would show football on a football day as they’re next to Chelsea football grounds! Duh!? Also, it only ever acts as a sports bar on match days. On a normal day, it’s a buzzy lively restaurant. Also, I think I should point out that you’ve only written one review on your account and you’ve written this review the same day you signed up to qype. If you have some personal vendetta, then don’t be a coward and try and sabotage someone’s business through b****ing on the internet.

  • andywopp, 10 March 2013:

I think rix24 was perfectly justified in making his comments. When you go to a restaurant you expect a certain ambiance. Why would any normal person, taking his friend or partner for a meal, want loud television in the background? So what if this was his first review written on his first day. It doesn’t change the validity of his arguments and you have to start somewhere. I would question your bullying vitriol when it comes to a paying member of the public making his feelings known in a reasonable way.

  • alexandra101, 10 March 2013:

Regardless of that, as I said, it’s next to Chelsea football grounds. If you don’t want the disturbance and hustle of bustle of football, then obviously don’t be in Fulham when Chelsea are playing. Simple.

This place is one of the best tapas bars I’ve been to in London. I’ve spent a lot of time in Madrid, Sevilla, Barca etc. and I know the cuisine well. I had the seafood platter and boy was I impressed! Really authentic flavours. Great atmosphere, always lively and buzzing.

Firstly, I will start by saying that I am Spanish and the food here really is just a poor imitation of anything Spanish, except for the fabada, which is great and do recommend. However, it tastes just like the tinned fabada that I bring from Spain, so I have always thought that it is the same tinned one that I purchase. Still, it is the only thing that I can recommend from here, and it is quite filling in itself (beans being its main ingredient)

Not that I have tried everything on the menu, but over half of it. Yes, I was persistently trying to find out why everyone recommends this place as a good Spanish tapas place, and I gave up in the end.

Other than that, I can highlight the atmosphere which is very lively with good Spanish/latin music on the background, and the setting, which makes it ideal for a night out as a couple. Also, there is live music some nights of the week, which is quite good.

Finally, the tapas are quite expensive, but there is a 241 offer with tastelondon except Fri and Sat night.

El Metro is a nice, well located restaurant just a few steps from the Fulham Broadway station. Decoration, music, language, staff and evironment are a mix of spain and latin. Food is very good, so far I have tasted the hamburguers and they're really one of the best in town. Prices are fair and service is very good. Live soft latin music in weekends makes the place more attractive and a real experience for locals and strangers. It fits perfect for a romantic but non-conventional date.

El Metro is one of the best Spanish restaurants in London and one of my favorites. It is located next to the underground station of Fulham Broadway near Stamford Bridge Football Stadium where plays Chelsea FC with very good memories for Barça fans, after the mythical Iniesta goal that gave us the way to the final of the Champions League 2009. If you are in this part of London and looking for a good restaurant be sure to visit El Metro, where you will enjoy a fantastic variety of tapas, fried calamari, roasted peppers and lamb chops Spanish style. Open from breakfast until the early hours, El Metro restaurant never fails to impress with it’s excelent spanish cuisine and great atmosphere at night.

Plates of tapas at El Metro are a little pricey but are larger than your standard plates. A winner is most definitely the tortilla which comes with 4 hefty corners tilted together on a plate. The chicken is nothing to write home about and peering at what other guests had there are some tasty looking options.
I went for the meat and cheese platter (£8) which I was astounded not to see any bread with it - which I found out after you could order for another few squids.

I found the waiting staff a little sharp but sangria was traditional and if you don’t mind the queer vibrations rumbling with the trains passing underground, it can be quite a nice spot for a pre movie trip or such.

I have been living in the area for a couple of years and have been meaning to come here… and after my visit I feel like a bit of an idiot for not making the trip sooner. They have friendly Spanish staff and a rather cute set up: little tables under an awning out front hemmed in with potted bushes. Tiled interior with a bar to lounge against, and a gentle rumble of the District line beneath!
The tapas were the usual small but filling bites, the prawns were flavour full and the Spanish omelette was a beast!

EL METRO is a real gem of a restaurant in the heart of Fulham which is a must for anyone who visits London. The exterior speaks for itself as it is quaintly decorated in the traditional Spanish style complete with a heated outdoor terrace to delight the intrepid diner.

The staff are very friendly and happy to talk to you in detail about any of the dishes you many want to eat on the menu.
They have tasty Tapas,seafood-like calamari, squid so on and so forth.

Their selection of wines and beers, especially if you like cold beer is excellent. They have live music at the weekends, and with Chelsea Football club around the corner from Fulham Broadway Station it can get a bit rowdy and noisy.

The prices are very reasonable and its worth tipping for the service.
