35 reviews of Bloomsbury Bowling in English
great bowling alley, good food & decor.
only thing that hampered me is only having 4 fingers, I lost my thumb in a deep fat fryer while working in a chip shop, but I can hardley hold that against them! it gets a big thumb (not thumbs) up from me!
Always a good time to be had at the Bloomsbury Bowl! Diner food and drink are served in this retro 50s bowling alley, and sometimes they have club nights here. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was spotted here the other month while he was in London filming the 3rd Batman installment, I wish I was there that night…!
FUN, FUN, FUN.
BOWLING, KARAOKE, EATING, DRINKING all under one roof.
WHAT A GREAT PLACE.
Awesome venue and my favourite night out in London! Moved to London for Uni 5 years ago (makes me feel old) and this place had jsut opened. Really great 60s vibe, cheap bowling in the daytimes and unique beer menu. Made it back for the first time in ages last weekend and alot has changed but I'd forgotten what a good night out it was (and how much fun bowling actually is). There were way more staff and it was alot busier than I remembered but it still had the old charm intact. Might have to start making detours to Bloomsbury a regular thing.
I'd been meaning to go to Bloomsbury Lanes for a while as I'd heard plenty of good things about me, but, it wasn't until last Saturday when We, Like You featuring Norman Jay (MBE) was playing at this venue.
In a nutshell, I had the time of my life.
The music was fantastic! I was bowling, I was dancing, sometimes both simultaneously (which did not help my already-poor bowling skills), and just having a whale of a time. If you were there that night, and wondering who the girl who was doing the Charleston in-between throwing gutter balls, look no further.
My only complaint: it was incredibly hot there. I was sweating buckets!
On my way out, I passed the karaoke room. Much to my surprise, it was packed full of men. I'd somehow gotten the impression that karaoke was much more popular with the ladies, but, hey, the men definitely looked as if they were enjoying themselves!

Great little venue for food, bowling and live music. Bar service is a bit on the slow side sometimes. Otherwise can't in wrong.
Excellent live music venue with a range of indie acts and good drink prices! The djs tend to play 70s psych and funk which goes real well with the look of the place and I've seen everything from Fun Lovin Criminals to a band based on the Big Lebowski. Really unique place!
Organised a surprise party here this weekend just gone.
Staff were incredibly helpful. One member stayed on an extra half hour to see that the cake was bought out at the right time.
Had a lot of fun bowling and when we had a problem with our lane they added us on some extra time so that we wouldnt loose out.
We also ate, and the food was brilliant and cheap too. Total bill for 12 people including drinks £100.11!!!!
Cocktails were quite expensive, even by central london standards, but they were delicious and they didnt skimp on the measures.
Our whole group had a brilliant time and have been talking about it ever since.
Cant wait to go back!
Great bar, great bands, fairly priced bowling, and tables to eat at. I don't know how you could find something wrong with this place. Very busy and bowling might have to be booked.
Psyched to return to this stellar venue.
i was sceptical at first when my boyfriend said he was taking me on a date to a bowling alley, i soon changed my mind when i stepped inside! its not your average megabowl that for sure!
the decor is really nice and different and it seems to have it all with the bowling, a tasty diner (we shared a massive delicious pepperoni pizza!). there were karaoke rooms there that looked like everybody was having funa nd the dj was really good and fun, playing a real mix of music so we had a good dance after our bowling too.
overall a lot of fun and i would recommend for a fun night out. decent drink prices too.
I normally hate bowling.
Hence the mediocre star rating here because if I was going to go bowling I'd rather it was somewhere with a retro 50's style about it like this place.
Ended up here as part of a mate's stag do and it was fun for a while.
I still hate bowling though.
i have gone here early last year in aid of the bowlarama swapmatazz event and by yet the best ever party i have ever attended in my whole life so far!It was my friend's birthday and i suggested that she should do her birthday in Bloomsbury!not too far from russell square station it doesn't take that long to find. the party was situated in the basement of the venue. The space was spacious, enough room for 100 or so people. they have 8 bowling lanes, pool tables, fusball table, even a ping pong facility,a dance floor space to get your boogie on and even a hot tub in the back (provided with 2 shower rooms!) which i damn right took advantage of (even if we're allowed to!!!).Oh and also we took advantage of the karaoke room that our group have hogged. the staff were helpful setting it up and i decided to sing a shirley bassey number of Big Spender! The staff are trendy, young and good looking. It was just the best place to be in and all of the space was used well by the organisers.i would definetely go here again for a bowl or two :)
We love this place! Drinks prices are very good for central London, bowling even at the weekend is only £6 per person for an hour if there are a few of you, the karaoke rooms are so much fun as you get a private room for drinking and eating in (as well as singing).
Best thing is the general vibe though, there are often quirky club nights and I've seen some very decent live music there a few times.
Looking forward to the next time!
I went here for a for fun, long queues, paid £5 entry! didnt bother bowling £35 is overpriced, cinema was a small screen. Karaoke booths is sized like a box! The only food left at the restaurant was pizza!
Will not be going back!
This is the kind of place I though London had been lucky enough to leave behind - overrun by aggressive Jack the Lad security guys, managed by people who do not give half a toss to whether they are treating their punters with any decency or respect - so long as they pay the ten pounds to get in and the 36 pounds to bowl.
I went with four friends recently, on a night out. The lane we were bowling on went out of order - sprang a leak, so we had to wait for a new one - no problem, such things happen.
We got a new lane - after a short wait of fifteen minutes or so, and I asked a nearby security guy if the time would be added to the hour we had paid for. His response - nothing to do with him, he doesn't work on bowling. Ok - could you ask a colleague. No, go do it yourself.
I asked again - I didn't really want to queue and potentially waste more time to ask the question. At this point, the man became aggressive. I went to complain, and when I returned my friend was being bundled out, man handled because of our "attitude to staff".
Once outside, I wanted to come back in to talk the manageress. My partner was so intimidated and scared by the "security" that she felt that she couldn't go back in - and with good reason; they have hired, the type of aggressive, up for a fight muppets who used to blight the nightlife in this city.
So, in short, these people are only concerned with emptying their punter's wallets - they treat their punters like scum.
I live just around the corner from the lanes and find my self there more often than I should, its too pricey but can be a lot of fun. live music helps but the accoustics really suck!
The Retro Vibe is cool in a sort of commercial way, and the lanes are virtually impossible to get on unless you turn up super early or book in advance.
All in all I prefer All Star Lanes, but that would be 10 mins out of my way and I'm really lazy!
Bloomsbury Lanes may not be fabulous, but they certainly don't suck, they'll do!
This place is a gem. Bowl, chill, drink, eat and have a laugh!!!
A few of us went there to have a bowl and a burger. Started off with the Chocolate Stout, that’s right Chocolate Stout. At 10% you have to try it and hope its the natural cocoa that makes this drink a winner. When in Bloomsbusy have the Chocolate Stout. Yes, had too many and the next day head was tender.
They had a good selections of beers and cocktails.
We bowled and had a laugh and realised it had been half a decade since I last tried by Kingpin impressions. Munson Forever!
Burgers and the food were good and a good place to be loud, good drinks and reliable and easy American Diner food.
Will definetly go again.
Go go go.
I tend to forget about Bloomsbury Bowling the very next day as there’s usually a lot of cocktails drunk whilst we’re there!
A group of us from work went bowling just before Christmas, and had a good enough time (although, to be fair, it’s just bowling, so not sure how it could have been made any more exciting - dancing clowns in the aisles?).
Where it really comes into its own is the karaoke rooms though - different sizes depending on your crowd. You’re locked away from the rest of the world and left to sing your little heart out for your allocated time. With enough of a group, it works out really rather reasonably priced, and it’s a guaranteed good night out. It’s also very popular, so be sure to book well in advance, particularly if it’s for the weekend.
I went here for a staff awayday and for an afternoon/day out, it’s terrific. We had a private lane, and the event was a hit with staff.
The food is mediocre, though, and if you’re not paying for booze, it’s not cheap. Eat elsewhere first and then go bowling and boozing.
Yeah I dig the food and the vibe. The underground nature of the place makes it cool, they make mega good burgers, have live music, foosball and private kararoke rooms. One of the best places in London to take a party too - on the downer, it can get very packed and hard to get a drink at times.
Bring on the white russians!
