This was my first time exploring the Pentlands. It was a real swing as the weather turned out to be nicer than the forecast said and on top of that I met some really friendly mad hatters like me who decided to leave their cozy beds on a Saturday morning and head for an adventurous and relaxing walk in the mountains. We started from a boring residential area in Hunter's Tryst and walked all the way, around 7 miles, to Bonaly reservoir. The nature was beautiful, the walk pleasant. And although there were signs warning that the area is used for army trainings, we had a very peaceful and rewarding passage just a few miles away from the bustle of the city.

Loved to go on Pentlands walk, and I have gone on long walks once too many times, and I have lost count… I have really enjoyed it, as you can see all the lovely views, and loches, rivers, even wild animals in the distance, like foxes, eagle, and some farm animals, like sheeps etc.
It is great for a family day out… just for a stroll, or climbing, or cycling, or whatever you would like to do… I loved it very much… even I cant wait to go back again soon…!

The Pentlands are gorgeous. They are a firm favourite with walkers, hikers, cyclists and climbers alike. Well worth a visit if you’re feeling energetic!

The Pentland Hills are spectacular and we’re very lucky to have such a beautiful park so close to our great city.
I go cycling frequently around the reservoirs in the hills and you can find some really beautiful spots on your way. It’s great for a half day’s bike ride and you can easily go off track for some pleasant mountain biking. There’s nothing particularly technical, unless you want to go to the top of one of the hills, but still, without going out to Glentress, I haven’t found better mountain biking closer to Edinburgh.

Lovely walks but it can be quite hard going depending on your route. I have had to be dragged up on several occasions. Gives you amazing panoramic views. One of my favourite places to go for a long walk and count the sheep!

One Saturday when I was in first year at uni a few of us walked from Heriot-Watt up to the top of one of the hills, it took a few hours but is one of my favourite memories from my uni days. The sheep were friendly and the view of Edinburgh from the top was amazing.

The Pentland Hills are a great place to go for a walk, its like the countryside in the centre of a city.
It is especially great as unlike Arthurseat it is a larger landmass with less people so it is quieter and easier to find a place by youself.
Military train in some parts of the hills too which can make for some great entertainment.

As kids we used to come up here to horse around cycle our bikes or on a really hot day swim in the reservoir, shh I didn't just say that but come on we were young. I always used to have a great time up in those hills and as an adult I still do, minus the quick dunk in the water.
There’s plenty of different nature walks or outdoor persuits to choose from and whether you're heading towards Bonaly Reservoirs or Harperrig or any other part of the pentlands the views are amazing.
So if fancy a nice wee stroll through the countryside a spot of fishing or a good hack on a bike head for the hills. They aren’t really hard to miss.

Truely breath taking this is a beautiful part of countryside just up the road from the hussle and bussle of busy city life. With amazing view, wide open space and great walks this is a must for families, walkers or people who just admire general beauty.

This is the great outdoor for the city dweller. Great walks along many different routes, all ascending to great views in very direction of Edinburgh. We always have a competition to see who can point out different landmarks accross the city from the top! Good for walking, climbing, orienteering and mountain biking for the uber fit! Sits on 5 reservoirs, sometimes nice to stroll along on the flat and appreciate the calm...
