When having your bag searched by security staff in Terminal 5 make sure that you keep your eyes on the items removed from your bag. These are put to one side so that when you are requested to repack your bag they can be easily forgotten. The omission will only be discovered once you arrive at your destination!!

The new terminal 5 delighted me: better design, looking clean. Good access to tube.

We left from Heathrow the other day (using BMI) and was really surprised that about 5 or 6 flights were being checked in through about 2 desks, resulting in long queues and delays
Also they have a system where you check in using a touch screen terminal thing, then you have to go to the desk and show your passport to drop bags and essentially check in again: weird and slow
Once past security (there again they need to train the staff to actuall manage queues rather than randomly divert) the lounge is fairly clean but could do with better sign posting.

Been flying in and out of Heathrow quite regular for the past five years and know Heathrow terminals 1 and 2 rather well. I tend to avoid T5 with British Airways as it is always crowded, staff is unfriendly and it takes forever to drop bags.
So, since I usually fly Lufthansa, I am going to Terminal 1. Lufthansa has its own check-in area and security area in the terminal which usually makes it rather easy to go through checks. It is never too busy unless you fly on the weekend when Christmas holidays start (like I usually do).
Once passed security, you don’t usually need to go through passport control – unless you get into one of the random checks.
Then you land directly in the duty free area which has a number of useful shops, a Boots as well as several café such as Caffé Nero. I can definitially suggest you to pick up a coffee, then head to World Duty Free for some make-up, fragrances, booze, chocolates … and then once finished the coffee you can go to Harrods to pick up some stocking fillers and use the internet for free in the Zurich insurances area in the middle of the terminal.
I like Terminal 1. It has all to offer one needs at an airport so just go and enjoy yourself!!

A great airport, but then, I am a Londoner at heart. Can be confusing to visitors as there are five terminals.
Love the atmosphere, the shops, bars and restaurants.

I know – this airport doesn’t have such a great reputation because it’s busy and crowded. But I love this airport: there are so many people from so many different cultures. A great place to be, even if it’s just for a short time.
Also great connection to London and Oxford.

i luv this airport as it has 5 terminals and there are a wide range of shops to chose from which helps as some times you may forget to pack stuff.

London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is currently Europe’s biggest airport and is an excellent European hub. I am not really a friend of British Airways but you can not avoid it. The good thing about Heathrow is that it is relatively close to London. The Heathrow express will take you within 15 minutes to Paddington. If you want to save money then take Piccadilly line and you will be in 45 min in central London.
Approaching London by aircraft could offer very nice views. Passing the city at good sight would allow for easy identification of the tower bridge, St. Pauls, the Houses of Paliament and the London Eye. The Hyde Park, the Green Park and the Regent’s Park are also very characteristic large green or in summer more brown areas. Closer towards Heathrow Kew Gardens can be sometimes seen and if you are finally lucky you can observe Windsor Castle before landing.
The Terminal 5 is brandnew and beautiful and not many bags have been lost since a while. Also the other terminals have nice shops for instance Harrod’s. If you take a rental car you will immediately be on motorways M4 and M25.

This is my favourite London Airport. 5 Terminals and a lot less busy than Gatwick.
More of a business airport than Gatwick so feels less busy and more civilized.
Check in seems easier as does security and it is also a lot cleaner. Once through security there are so many shops. For duty free shopping Heathrow is the best place. It also has the best food places and has a fresh sushi style fish bar.

Yes Heathrow is well located for me and the way I travel around the UK, however the train you need to get to it is too expensive (at about £1 per minute – compared to a tenth of that in Germany) and when you get there it is just way too big!
In any terminal other than terminal 5, Expect at least 2 kilometres of walking around from arriving to security to reaching your gate especially if you arrive or depart on the Heathrow Express!

The easiest and cheapest airport to get to and from central London. Good mix of shops, places to eat. Like the fact that you can buy duty free to pick up on your way home.
Not the most attractive airport I have been to.

I am boggled by this airport, every time I come through it is seems totally different, so either it is so huge that I’ve never hit the same place twice or they seriously do keep changing it-I don’t think it is the latter.
Otherwise, relatively easy to navigate but you have to go pretty far to get anywhere.
I love that the route to London is so streamlined, there is metro and alternative trains, and that it is easy to get to King’s Cross to get a train.
If anything there is TOO much choice and I could imagine getting frustrated by trying to decide which train you need and if it is worth the price difference.
