Very nice meal for all the family in a friendly pub/ restaurant. Service was very good and the wine selection was good and value for money. Strongly recommended for a midday meal.
I love Bar Kohl – really fun place to start off a good night out. Amazing selection of cocktails – great music and atmosphere!
If you like vodka and don't want to visit the meat market that Revolution can be, this little gem of a place is just round the corner on George IV Bridge. It can get pretty busy so I suggest arriving early to get a seat. They have a great range of shooters and cocktails too. It's a fairly nice place to spend an evening, falling somewhere inbetween 'pub' and 'club'
I loved Bar Khol. The club sandwich was great, the big screen was entertaining and the chocolate vodka white russians shouldn't be missed!!! Great spot.
Definitely a place for weekend warm up and great start of your night out! Central, cozy with a top cocktail list, bar Kohl is a place you would like always to revisit. Despite the fact it gets a bit too loud at weekends, only for a few hours, during the week it is a perfect place for relaxation and great chat with friends. The bar staff are extremely friendly and since my first visit a year ago to celebrate the marriage of a Brazilian fiend with fiery shots, the bar has started serving food too at pretty reasonable prices.
Really good cocktails and spirit selection, and quite competitively priced too. As mentioned by other reviewers, the thing that lets Bar Kohl down is the booming hip hop. It's pretty impossible to have a conversation without having to shout in your companion's ear.
**EDIT**
Revisited Bar Kohl in early November and the booming hip hop has been turned down to a more sensible level. However, the woman standing next to me at the bar was sick (staff did clear it up quickly) and the toilets are pretty unpleasant - what's wrong with having toilet seats?
Drinks still good and cheap though.
What can you say about a bar with a selection of over 100 different flavoured vodkas? A great selection of shooters and cocktails are available too. "Kid in candystore" maybe?
There's quite a strong atmosphere to the place with plenty of dark little nooks. It all gets rather busy during weekends with a fair queue at the bar, however the service is pacey enough that it usually goes down quickly.
One downside... the men's toilets are a bit pokey. Still, it's a minor downside in the face of all the vodka-type goodness.
This bar is stylish and classy, walls have a brick/stone effect.
Friendly staff.
Collection of world beers.
Extremely large tv. Sells a good range of shooters sells a selection of pitcehrs, both of htese have menus places on candle-lit tables. Loud music plays.
No student discount, has a ciggarette machine, sells president obama t-shirts
Ok, I love a good cocktail and Bar Kohl has one of the most extensive menus of vodka based cocktail creations in the city. Sadly, as mentioned previously, the music in the place gets so loud after 8pm that I always see that as my queue to head elsewhere.
Otherwise a perfectly acceptable after work drinking den.

Bar Kohl is one of those places I REALLY want to love- it has a fantastic selection of original cocktails, home made vodka brews, a funky looking menu and decent cocktail prices. It also has the most obnoxious, booming sound system/music choice in the history of the world. All night. If you like to drink cocktails and not have any conversation because Hip Hop/R&B is being blasted at deafening volumes then OH MY GOD THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. Real shame as the cocktails are delicious.
This place is fabby, and if you like vodka you’ll love this place, they have vodka of every kind that you can think of and the cocktail and shots menu is HUGE, they have something for absolutely everybody.
I was here after a works xmas night out, and the cocktails and shots were great, not the best the next again day though :(
One of my favourite places to drink in Edinburgh. Staff are friendly and they have an extensive cocktail and shooters menu and a selection of absinthe. I’ve very rarely left here sober. I prefer the side with the creaky church pews. Four stars because the hand dryer in the ladies never works and they never seem to have paper towels either.
Vodka Vodka Vodka. If you like it, you’ve come to the right place here. With over 100 available varieties at the last count, you’ll definitely find something to suit you here (as long as it’s vodka). Obviously the choice of other drinks is a bit limited, but if you are part of CAMRA, you’ve come to the wrong place. The whole place is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside, so you’ll usually be able to find space, even on a weekend. The crowd is a little down market from the rest of George IV Bridge, more Frankenstein’s than Villager.
great vodka cocktails any day of the week
A bit young and trendy for me, very loud from what I remember.
But the place to go for vodka shots.
not a place if you are short on cash but definitely the place to go if you like vodka
Go in sober and come out drunk!! Thats what happens whe you have such a large choice of vodka flavours. The pubs itself is a bit small so easily busy but nontheless a great couple of hours on a night out. Try a FAB cocktail just like the ice lolly!
Bit of an Edinburgh institution this one - it’s been there since my days as a student and that was really quite some time ago now sadly.
It has an extraordinary amount of drinks, focusing on a quite simply ridiculous number of flavoured vodkas.
Great atmosphere to the place - gets busy mind, but always chatty and friendly.
If you’re heading to the 'Burgh, get yourself along here and 'enjoy’ a red hot chili vodka shooter…
If you are a vodka lover then this low lit funky bar is a must see! And if you've worked your way through the massive list of flavoured vodka shots, grab the chunky cocktail menu and start from the top. Most of the coctails come in pitchers so grab a couple of mates to make the night less pricy (and then grab your jug and your jam jars and enjoy) The bar staff here have perfected their art... rumor has it that you need to have studies mixology to work here... not sure if its true, but considering the deliciousness of their creations, I wouldn't be surprised! Definately worth checking out, the bar oozes style and has a unique element of class (I wish I could say the same thing about myself upon walking out after several scrumptious vodka shots!)
A cocktail lover will be positively euphoric upon setting eyes on the list of treats in this place. A whole novella-sized menu oozes fabulous cocktails; the Appleberry and Bay Breeze especially are just mouth-watering, and these two at least are not extortionate. The standard price is, however, quite high, but for a classy place with oodles of atmosphere and smooth low-lighting, it is worth it for a more glamorous evening. The music is sultry R&B and there was even a suggestion of a dancefloor when I went for an early drink.
This funky bar is a great place both to visit and take your visitors! It has a HUGE array of drinks, not just the original cocktails but hundreds of different flavour vodka concoctions to send those taste buds into overdrive. Drinks are quite expensive, but they do get you quite drunk quite quickly due to their high (but tasty) alcohol content! The only complaint I can think of is that the R&B music is often played too loud for easy conversation. Overall a great place to visit but an expensive one to frequent.
