Excellent Chinese restaurant in South London which doubles up as a wedding dinner venue! Its massive inside, and well decorated too. The tables are also spaced out, so its great for more intimate meals.

They're good with seafood dishes, as they have big tank of live lobsters, crabs, etc and you need to be good with seafood in order to cater to the Chinese wedding market.

For westerners, they have an all you can eat option, where for a set price you can order as many dishes as you want from a limited a la carte menu. For proper dining, they have a good menu of various dishes from all over China. They also do dim sum, but only until 4pm.

Probably one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area, and the price is good too, you can have a good meal for about £10-£15 per head.

I was introduced to this Chinese Restaurant a couple of weeks ago.
I ordered Take a Way not expecting very much and "WOW" loved the food. The service was very good, staff were pleasant and accommodating.
I have been back four times, and have recommended friends, who also enjoy the food.

Review of Hong Kong City Restaurant from 5 November 2009 (updated on 22 August 2010)

I'm a writer from Australia and I like to see the funny side in everything. I am pixelguyx AT gmail DOT com

This place is funny. My gay friend and I had a friendly, humorous waiter. No trolleys, it's a la carte, but the dim sum are tasty and as tasty as you will get in London without breaking the bank.

Went for Dim Sum for father’s day (on a Sunday around 11am)... At first it was a little cold with the air conditioning on. But after food arrived which was overall very good quality and quantity you seem to warm up a bit.

The decor at times lets it down a bit along with the location. But I have to say given a bit more work on some areas in terms of looks and it could get even more custom.

The bill for 3 ppl came to around £10 each when you add it all up.

They also do an all you can eat buffet at 12£. A really nice place for a family meal… Kids can run around freely and the staff interact/pass by in a very professional manner.

Hong Kong city is a large Chinese restaurant on the Old Kent Road. It has limited parking outside. The set menus are excellent with a not-too-long menu for individual dishes and the food really is very good, especially their 'sizzling’ dishes.

Some nights (every Friday?) you will be treated to Paul 'Elvis’ Chan, who does renditions of the king, singing to you at the table and often inviting patrons to join in karaoke style. So bad it’s brilliant, we were in fits of laughter. The perfect Friday-night-meal-with-your-mates venue.

Great place. used to have a cheap buffet but had to stop as people would take out containers and empty all onto plate (yes, literally). but now offer cheaper bigger portions in main part. nice staff. gets a little crowed sometimes though !!!

Review of Hong Kong City Restaurant from 2 July 2008

I come to HK City mainly for the dim sum, which they serve everyday until 5pm. The choice and quality is value for money compared to some of the places I’ve been to in Central London, and although with their refurbishment the prices have gone up slightly and some dishes have shrunken in size, I still enjoy eating here.

The place does get extremely busy at the weekend during late afternoon when they hold a number of wedding banquets (it can seat up to 500 people in the main restaurant), so try to eat before 4pm and you’ll be fine.

As an update they’ve taken the buffet section away, which I tried once and found it so-so, and meals other than dim sum can be a bit hit and miss depending on whether it’s busy and they have enough staff.

Overall however, it’s certainly the best in the area. Definitely recommended.

Hong Kong City is quite a nice place. The food is really nice, you can sit down to a meal or have take out or have their buffet. You can eat from the buffet in the restaurant or have it as take out. The reason I gave them quite a low star rating is because I don’t like the way if you do decide to have the buffet as a takeout then a person goes around with you and fills your pot. If you decide to eat the buffet in the restaurant they have a list of rules and regulations you have to follow. But other then this it’s quite a nice place to eat.
