My favorite place in London to quiet my mind and clear my lungs from this old, smogy town! I get out at belsize park and walk up to park entrance from there and finsih my stroll in the little vegetarian deli cafe at Heampstead Heath Bus station were Harry Potter was born:-)

Nature at its best. A very pristine beauty that calms you down. It is really quiet and soothing here.

As water calms me down, that is one of my most favourite places in London. I am here every single weekend just hanging around with my jack russel. Thank you very much for keeping this place clean and nice, and green and quiet! Thanks a lot, highly recommended place!

I love outdoor swimming in lakes and on a searing hot day Hampstead Heath is the only place that I want to be. when it's hot enough they cool you down in a pleasant way but the water can be as warm as 20 degrees which is also welcome. There's no space for sunbathing but there's a whole park for that.

Sorry, but this seems to suggest that the nearest tube stations are Westminster and St. James' Park. They're NOT. Not by miles and miles and miles. Did someone get mixed up with The Serpentine?

The nearest tube stations that I know of are Hampstead, Belsize Park and Kentish Town. Unfortunately, none of them is really all that near, but it's a nice enough walk from Hampstead tube.

The best place for outdoor swimming in London, weather permitting. The mens pond has a diving board and is most fun, the mixed pond is great but too crowded in summer and the womens pond is the prettyest. All three make for a great day out.

The Ladies bathing pond is one of those places that makes you feel as though you are in a remote part of the countryside- not London. I like the womens only pond best as it has a far more tranquil vibe than the mixed ponds- upheld by grouchy women telling you off if you talk too loudly or answer your mobile. But fair enough i say, as the pros of adhering to the rules definately outweigh the cons.

Hampstead Heath is a huge area of greenery and natural beauty in north-west London, and the ponds are one of the most popular aspects of the park. They are literally open air ponds for swimmers, and there are separate ones for men and women as well as a mixed pond. The ladies one is the cleanest and generally speaking the nicest in terms of foliage, and I haven't seen the men's pond, but hear it's pretty grimy. Actually they are all pretty grimy. The mixed ponds is an absolute nightmare if the weather is good, there are literally QUEUES to get in! And there were warnings about the cleanliness of the water. Oh, and you have to pay to get in (about £2). But as far as outdoor swimming places go, I think ponds are a lot more interesting than lidos, and especially these ones, cos it IS very beautiful in Hampstead Heath, and the hills make for amazing views of the London skyline. Don't forget yer towel.
