Dear Tvw, did you have any female rabbits spayed there? I know it is a very delicate procedure and I am looking for a reliable and experienced vet to carry out this surgery! I am really scared things may go wrong. Many thanks

My favourite vet & pet shop.
…and my dog loves goong there. Staff are reall friendly on the shop with great advice (especially helpful when I first got my dog and didn’t know much).
The (owner) vet is particularly professional. Good appointment schedules.

Totally recommend without hesitation! I have over 20 animals (dogs, cats and bunnies) and I wouldn’t trust any other veterinary surgery. On several occasions they have gone above and beyond to help solve my animal medical mysteries and are always caring and sympathetic. A major benefit is that as a large practice, the vets are able to discuss patient issues amongst themselves so you get that second, third and fourth opinion straightaway. I’ve lost a couple of animals over the years and have learnt the hard way that not all vets are up to speed especially when it comes to bunnies however the vets at Canonbury always exceed expectations. For those that think it’s a bit expensive …rest assured you get what you pay for.

Hiya
I have a small bunny rescue and out of my 24 bunnies, Canonbury have neutered 11 of my does and 8 of my bucks all without incident plus other surgeries. I have 100% confidence in them. I totally appreciate your concerns as I have previously lost two bunnies because of other vets not having sufficient rabbit experience but that is not the case with Canonbury. As added comfort, they have recently brought out new anaesthesia tubes especially made for bunnies significantly reducing the associated risks. Canonbury have already started using them and were keen to tell me how good they are. I think I’m their best customer (30 animals!) ;-) Please don’t hesitate to contact me again if I can be of help. Neutering your bun is absolutely the best thing you can do because uterine cancer is horribly prevalent in bunnies. -

Hello there, thanks so much for your reply. I really appreciate it.
I have just called the Vet to find out about thair spaying costs and I was told they charge £260/rabbit!!
Wow, I nearly fainted! Did you by any chance pay this amount of money? I am really down now as I have 3 rabbits to spay and I cannot possibly afford this :-(

Expensive vet practice who are always keen to try the most expensive option first. This practice wanted to conduct a skin scrape costing £300 on a puppy's bald patch. My other vet covering our other home in Northumberland used a UV lamp to correctly diagnose a fungal infection which could be treated with a tuve of cream costing £8.
I don't mind paying for good treatment, but that was the second occasion where they immediatelt leapt to the most costly option.

The vets here seem really good, very professional and capable.
The service here has always been good and when you register, they give you a free check up and weighing as well as a 30 minute consultation on how to care for your pet. This was great for us as new puppy owners!
It’s quite expensive however, and they can be very slow in filling out and sending insurance forms.
The puppy party on Tuesday evenings is great! Invaluable for socialising pups who can’t yet go out and possibly the cutest thing ever!

I haven’t actually used this vets myself, though it seems to be well regarded. What it does have is an excellent pet store. No live animals, but lots of useful and fabulous stuff. Prescription and fancy diets. Pet toys. Harnesses. Specialist cat litter. The sort of things that might be difficult to find in a standard pet store.
The lines tend to be luxury and specialist, sometimes imported from the States. The prices aren’t the cheapest, but quality is excellent. If there’s something you’ve been looking for, or you want something a little special, this could be the place. Go in with no such ideas and you’ll probably find something that suddenly becomes essential for your pet…
We have used Canonbury vet quite often since we got our dog. They offer a really friendly and professional service and I always feel that my pet is in safe hands. I think they have four vets working there but we mainly see the same two, who now know our dog quite well. Their phone is manned 24 hours so you can ring out of hours for advice, which is very reassuring.
Canonbury Vet arranges puppy classes in the shop on Tuesday nights, so puppies who are not yet fully vaccinated can go and socialise with other little ones. This is great for people who do not have other dog friends to visit.
There is a seperate pet shop in the same building and it has got everything you need from food to toys, bedding and treats!

I have used this vet surgery a few times. Firstly, I found the initial service good, and friendly reception staff. The actual vets I saw, though, were a bit stand offish, and not very good at explaining what they thought the problem was with my pet, which I wasn't too impressed with. But they sorted out the problem alright, and the rates are alright compared to some other places. I just think they could have been a bit more accommodating to the pet owners and letting them know what's going on with the animals.
