Apart from the 1 hour wait to get in, this place is a very good venue. You can get up close to some big performers. The dance floor is big enough to create a concert vibe but without the potential crush of a stadium.
The balconies make it good for atmosphere and disabled viewing space. For those that drink the bar is quite accessible as it is often crowded with the 16-18 year old market.
Also 2 seconds from Mornington Crescent tube on the Northern Line.
One of my favorite venue in London : spectacular setting with balconies, leather comfy sofas, red warmy lights, secret stairs and corridors, vaste green terrace, and a huge amazing stage & sound system!
Disco, rock, electro, dubstep, you’ll find a party for any type of music… The ticket price may vary from £5 to £50 depending on the line-up, but in any case it worth it!
*tip : climb to the very last floor (4) to get the stunning view of the stage and the crowd
great night here esp wen there is a big bunch of friends got sooo drunk here but loved it
This is a great night on a Friday when they host the NME music nights.am a regular attendee and never disappoints. Fantastic gig venue, went to see Babyshambles in March and couldnt ask for a better location. reasonable entry fee but drinks are quite expensive for what they offer.
Eclectic is the word I would use to describe Koko, its definitely unique and very different to most places you will see live music.
Multiple floors, it was hard to work out how many, balconies, seating, rails, more seating, more steps, and side rooms to everywhere. Lots of good vantage points to see the stage if you are up high. Drinks were pretty expensive, and I really don't enjoy a drink in a plastic cup that much either.
The sound and lighting were pretty good and it definitely was loud.
I could see the roof terrace from outside, but never did find it inside, and the odd shapen toilets were a nightmare, you can't escape if someone goes to the urinal next to you!
KOKO is one of the most beautiful music venues I've ever been to. The most beautiful actually. It reminds me a little of the theatre at Tottenham Court Road where they show We Will Rock You. Everything's red at KOKO and it looks a little like an opera house. The music was wonderful because I 've visited the club for Yann Tiersen gig.
Although I loved the venue really really much, I'll give it four stars - drinks are pricey and the barman called my Sainsbury's juice from a carton fresh juice. Besides, they rip money off for keeping your things at the cloakroom. That's not very nice.
Horrible music, horrible place...hate it so much ! WOuldn't have gone if I would have known which kinda place it is...
I thought KOKO was an excellent music venue, it was a breath of fresh air from all the usual dull music venues. In the style of an old theatre KOKO's are able to give many different viewing points from overlooking balconies and 3 different tiers with a bar on each. The outside balcony overlooking Mornington Crescent tube station is also a really enjoyable part of the venue to sit out with a drink and enjoy a summer evening before the concert begins. The sound is also worth mentioning, since there seems to be a balanced acoustics to the venue that adds to the quality of the sound the band are producing.
Downfall - drinks prices are a complete rip off and there are no offers encouraging people to buy drinks which leads to many people trying to sneak alcohol in. As a music venue I would have given it 5 stars but as a club it deserves 3 stars. I would never go there unless I was seeing a band because as a club the drink prices just aren't worth it and the layout doesn't quite suite a clubbing environment.
Oh dear, what to say about Koko that hasn't already been said? It really is the place to go if you're in Camden, especially if you're from out of town, to get a taste for tacky English culture. Not necessarily a club, much more than a bar, and without the pompous crap that comes with a concert venue, Koko's is a thing of its own.
It's enormous, first of all -- four stories, and holding some million trillions of people. They are primarily a music venue, with live music acts most night of the week. I was there the first time to see a fabulous band called Six Nation State, who really rocked my socks off.
When outside getting some "fresh air", I met a group from Australia, two chaps from Italy, and 8 girls from Spain out on a Hen Night (at Koko's???). A very diverse and interesting crowd most nights.
Unfortunately, it does seem to be a haven for spotty youths looking for a sugar mama (no means no, sausage head), but it's all easily avoided enough.
My favourite thing about Koko's is that the stage can be seen, and seen well, from any vantage point at Koko's because of the tiered balcony seating. There are dozens of little balconies where one can sit in relative peace on any number of dirty, yet comfy couches.
Unfortunately, the drinks are unduly expensive, and served in plastic cups, which I suppose is to be expected for a gig venue.
The decor is all plush red gothic 60s, with faux red velvet battened walls and black painted fixtures every where.
You'll spend most of your time going up and down one of thousands of staircases. The dance floor down at the very bottom can be quite chaotic, and unless you're ok being trampled or leaving a gig with cauliflower ear, it's best avoided.
If you're 18 and just looking for the most ludicrous time you can have, go for it. Either way, Koko's is a must see and do.
I went to Koko only once, for the concert of Temper Trap... But I will definitely go back ! I loved the place, which I found absolutely beautiful. And as I was really tired the evening I went, I really appreciated the possibility to seat on a large, comfy sofa. Only one thing prevented me from fully enjoying the concert : if you're afraid of heights, don't chose the last floor as I did !!!
I look forward to going back there on a friday night, it must be a totally different atmosphere !
I was here once before years and years ago and, although the general layout has not changed (multi-level bars, etc), I do remember that the little niches on the lower ground level used to have proper seats in them - now there is either nothing or those lean-on seats that you find at some bus stops.
I would have liked to check out what used to be called the champagne bar (the bar on the upper level) but only the lower level was open when I recently visited.
I might go here again for the right event, it kind of has a charm of its own, but it will not become a regular haunt.
This is a popluar gig venue in Camden that attracts both local and international acts. It's got a few different levels and bars so worth snooping around if the first bar is a bit buzzy. This place tends to get packed to the rafters though so pick your gigs and be prepared to squeeze in.
It's also a night club and has DJs playing so check their websites for listings. It attracts the usual Camden croud but can be a fun night out.
Sound isn't bad and the stage is raised so you generally can see what's going on unless you're stuck behind Lurch (a common curse for me).
Only actually made it in here once - for a Cut Copy gig which saw the roof nearly come off as thousands of antipodeans jumped and rocked the place big time.
It's really nicely decked out, with a velveteen feel that makes you think you are in some sumptuous palace at times. Club nights i'm sure rock as well.
i must find a reason to go back...
Great place man, many good times here.
You’re never waiting too long for a drink. The majority of staff are quite keen to talk to punters too which is great.
For a theatre, it makes a great night club! I used to go here all the time but i set the fire alarm off once by accident and i haven’t been back! The door staff were really freindly though and understood.
The only downside to the venue is that its so easy to get lost in the back corridors. Its like a maze!
But it you manage to stay together as a group, its truely an amazing club!
I used to go to KOKO before when it was camden palace, when it was looking a littl tired and with sticky floors. I recently went back to KOKO for Guilty Pleasures- what a great night out! the place looks so much better, the musci was great and had such a fun atmosphere with the fairytale theme as everyone was in costume!
KoKo is a really great venue, which has the look and feel of an old opera house. Inside there are around 3 floors to explore, with the main dance floor and stage at the bottom. There are also plenty of sofas, but these usually fill up fast! But they are great and comfy, and you can often find yourself stuck there the entire night drinking away with mates. Some club nights also feature live music which is also a added bonus. They also host some gigs here too. My main gripe with KoKo is at club nights you will come accross people who think it is fun to throw bottles and cups into the crowd below from the upper balconys, which explains why they never serve anything in a glass at this place! Nevertheless, it is
still a decent night out in camden!
I have had many memorable, nay legendary, nights here and with the revamp a few years back they managed to keep the impressively, regal feel of the sumptuous decor whilst giving the sound system a thorough and much-needed once over.
At last night’s Easy Star All-Stars gig it was a delight to get some wholesome, throbbing and quality sounding bass-in-the-face; I’ve been on the receiving end of numerous and far less desirable things in my boat over the years here: from big fat knuckles, over-priced lager hurled in a fit of indignant anger and a whole host of far too ambitious amorous adavances thrown back.
And after adequate time, I remain convinced that if that huge disco ball falls from its perch it will have someone’s eyes out and thoroughly unconvinced that Koko is a superior moniker to Camden Palace.
Let’s face it: terrible name but great venue.
Koko is a very cool place, we went to the Guilty Pleasures night which was great. There were acts on throughout the night and great music. Drink were quite expensive but this is as expected.
its a very cool venue, house in an old theatre, works well for gigs and also for there more standard club nights, has a bit of a carling academy feel to it, plastic pint cup etc… the crowd is the scene kids from Camden, but generally a good bet for a decent night out in Camden!
