Hamburg Harbour is one of the greatest places in the most beautiful town in northern Germany!
It `s really nice to cruise "low budget" by several ferries with HVV. When my kid was little we spent lots of time there - hunting seagulls.
Nowadays it`s still worth to go there for there are many nice restaurants in the area.
Our favorite corner is the Portuguese Quarter! Have a try!
The harbour distinguishes Hamburg from the rest of the world.
It is unique an a must see for every visitor.
For a first impression go to LANDUNGSBRÜCKEN and enjoy the sight. Then take a boat tour that includes the SPEICHERSTADT and have a look at the new ELBPHILHARMONIE and HAFEN CITY.

Great to see a thriving port in action. Cargo, cruise ships, ferries and tourists. plenty to see and do!

The harbour is a must-see for any tourist - always drag people here, regardless of weather conditions, for a walk from Hafencity bus stop to Landungsbrücken, ignoring protests like "oh, it's too windy", "oh, my umbrella's broken", "Rhian, please can we go somewhere else, I am soaked to the skin and the wind is so strong it is blowing children and old people into the harbour" to which I say MAN UP, because the harbour is beautiful in its own way, and that has to be seen. The cranes have a certain industrial je-ne-sais-quoi and I'll keep coming back here regardless of the weather. Also a nice walk from the Fischmarkt on a Sunday morning back down in the other direction.
As always in Hamburg, the boulevard is kept immaculate, and so the walk is a pleasure, particularly past Baumwall towards the Hafencity bus stop where it's all new and shiny. Lots of cafés up that end and then touristy shops, imbißes and other stuff down on the lower level by Landungsbrücken.
Do not miss! Although try and wait for good weather, if you don't want your pleasant promenade to end up feeling like an army boot camp.
Hamburg, port, Landungsbrücken, Elbe, boats, barges, paddle steamer, Blohm+Voss, docks - I cannot stop describing this place (arguably my favourite-favourite-favourite-place in Hamburg). The wind which gently waves around your nose, the smell of Elbe-water and the view of the Elbe - at its most beautiful I have seen in my entire life. No visitor to Hamburg should miss this place. Regular and compulsory programme for indigenous as well as inhabitants of Hamburg. It's only during the port's anniversary that I will not go there under any circumstances. But for those who like that - enjoy your stroll. Greetings Harald

The port belongs to Hamburg like a lid to a saucepan. Not only do tourists have to have visited it at least once, even those born here or who have moved here will always find something new to discover. When its nice weather this is a particularly good place to go. But you can also pursue the loveliest hobby in the world - to see and be seen...
