Do you want to cook with something different… Using ingredients you have only heard off on those American tv shows.

Or even sample from state style confectionery. Did you wonder what baby ruth tasted like well you can find out here.

I also got what can be described as a small drum oh Mexican spice which has lasted forever and saved me a small fortune on buying ’’kits’'

To top it all off it’s run by the most amazing staff known to man. It’s very rare to see happy people in retail that do enjoy what there are doing.

One of my favourite shops in Edinburgh and a must visit for anyone with a passion for food from the Americas or the Caribbean. Stocking everything through hot sauces, pickles, chips, dips and chilies through to deli items like cheese and chorizo. For those that like a drink (and who doesn’t in this town) there’s a pretty impressive selection of tequilas and imported beers.

To top it all off the folks that run it are friendly and helpful and are always happy to give cooking tips when asked for. Pick up a copy of their cook book while you’re there and give the smothered pork chops in onion gravy a go. I promise you won’t regret it!

My only complaint about this merchant is that I didn’t discover them sooner! As a displaced American, I am often grousing about which products from home I am longing for, which UK products are subpar, blah blah blah. And THEN, I find Lupe Pinto’s…

From what I understand, in addition to fresh soups/deli specialties from their kitchen, Lupe’s specialty is bringing in items that folks come in whining that they can’t find. Dill pickles—mind, the garlic ones, not the sweet ones found at Sainsburys (sweet + dill = bad)—yep, they’ve got ‘em! You want quality hot sauces? They have at least 20 varieties. Lupe’s also carries products from the Carribbean, India, and pretty much any region that their clientele make requests from.

I’m sorry, but I fibbed earlier—I actually have a second beef with Lupe’s: their prices. I’m paying 5 pounds for a cake mix that would cost me the equivalent of 50p back home. Robbery! BUT, at least these products are available, which gives me an option I didn’t have before. And for a Reese’s Nutrageous bar, I’d pay twice the price. : )

This shop has one of the friendliest shopkeepers I've ever met. I can see why she is such a happy worker - this little deli really is something special, I'd be proud of it too. It has every kind of foodstuff one could ever want for making a truly authentic mexican dish. It can be especially recommended to homesick Mexicans or Americans - a Californian friend of mine almost cried with joy on discovering a million things from home that you just can't find in Scotland, and we're not just talking Hershey bars here. Try the pink fluff. Really. Just don't eat to much at once or you may get a sugar-rush headache. However, my favourite thing here must be the shop assistant's food knowledge. I now know not only how to cook snails and what spices to use, but also how to rear them. Weird, but awesome!
