Bentham, Bentham, Bentham…… happy hour is GOOD!
Nice pub in Bloomsbury: the character - Jeremy Bentham - rather more interesting than his namesake - kept as a stuffed mummy in nearby University College. But do look at this pub book, its fantastic :A PUB CRAWL THROUGH HISTORY by Mike Pentelow (a local) & Peter Arkell pub by Janus Press
The book helps you discover the quirky stories behind a mixture of characters who all share the common distinction- as commoners- of having a pub named after them. From poets, to actors, from sports personalities to comedians, from novelists to singers & war heroes to inventors. By the author of CHARACTERS OF FITZROVIA

Lovely pub this - good beer, good staff, pleasant atmosphere. It's off Gower Street so you get a fair number of students and academics.
They usually have 3 or 4 real ales, which always seem to be in good condition. They're typically £3.00-£3.30 a pint.
There's an upstairs room are tables outside for smokers. I'm not sure if they do food. The gents is very cramped and there's no hot water, but otherwise OK. There's no piped music.

The Jeremy Bentham is a great little pub, just off Gower Street in amongst UCL, School of Law and UCH. The area is great - between Euston and Tottenham Court Road - both of which are horrible - but the streets in between are proper old London, with a long history of academia and science. The pub has a good range of bitters plus is not too pricey for the location. The house red is better than the white. One of the best things is that it is rarely frequented by the local students, and the older crowd of lecturers, local workers and builders proves an interesting mix and serves for some good eavesdropping. If you want to visit the real Jeremy Bentham, his preserved corpse still sits in a glass case in nearby UCL (seriously!).

Many a happy hour was spent in here drinking away any memory of what I might have learned in college that day. But the pub itself is just another mediocrity – we only came here because it was close to UCL. It’s got nothing special going for it; they have a couple of standard ales, but why are they charging so much for them? It used to be one of the principal hangouts of the philosophy graduate community, until one of us (not me!) was banned for the foreseeable future. No one really knows whether it was justified or not. Oh well.
