A fairly average restaurant in my opinion. Nice touches but food was very bland. We went as a party of ten and spent most of the time talking about the average food that was being served.
One saving grace was the decor, everything was laid out immaculately. Even the table cloths were being ironed around us as we ate. Very impressive.

We came in with great expectations to have an exceptionally good lunch but we were mostly disappointed.
The meals were a peculiar mixture of rather average taste but with one excellant part or detail in each dish.
So the three of us, my son - himself a professional chef -, my wife and I pushed the two meat dishes, nobody liked, around the table, but we all pulled the quite delicious prawn dish towards us.
I ended up only eating rice, naan and chutneys.
Service average.
Prices undeservedly high.
The toilets are really good and clean.
For us this place never deserves any “best”.

My boyfriend took me here as a surprise for my birthday last week and it’s an effortless pleasure to write this review because the Red Fort is an outstanding, exceptional restaurant. It really was the most exquisite Indian meal I have ever had the good fortune to (happily and greedily!)devour.
As it was my birthday, I was very kindly treated to three courses and as each new plate arrived to the table it seemed more mouth-watering than the last! We started our meal with some poppadoms which came accompanied by tomato, papaya and mango chutneys. The chutneys were delicious and so, so fresh - they really gave a wonderfully reassuring insight into what would come next.
For my main, I had the Murgh Bemisaal curry. The chicken used at the Red Fort is corn-fed and it seems to make the meat so much more tender and flavoursome than anything I have ever had before. They also use dill in this curry which, though perhaps unusual for an Indian curry, completely adds to and compliments the overall flavour. My boyfriend had the Mahi Tikka, which is made with dorado and - from the little mouthful he gave me - it tasted amazing!
I normally find desserts in Indian restaurants a little disappointing, but the mango tarte I had was like a little circle of heavenly naughtiness.
The bill was fairly reasonable given how fantastic the food was, and how massively better it was than any other Indian restaurant I’ve ever visited. They also do a special lunchtime menu for £12 per person, so I definitely think I’ll be visiting again!

Unlike most others here, my own experience of the Red Fort was distinctly underwhelming. Despite it’s massive reputation for superb food, neither I nor my wife felt our meals were especially better quality than any number of Indians we have been too - and none of those had been as eye wateringly expensive as this was about to be either.
The service too was shocking. We had gone in early so the place was quiet, but the waiter spent the entire meal looking down his nose as us at a time when you might have thought he would have been glad of the business.
A real disappointment. Give me the Cinammon Club any day.

Fanastic Food however I would say at little overpriced at £65 a head.
One to go for a special occasion!

I would actually give this place 3 stars if I had paid for the meal myself… but I don’t want to look ungrateful to the lovely man who paid for me - because it was actually very nice. Except, for what you get, eyewateringly expensive. The idea that you pay about £20 for a small bowl of curry just astounded me. £10 for two bowls of rice. Wines starting at well over £20 a bottle… One thing I learned from going to India - and eating in places like VJs in Kilburn, is that Indian food is often at its best when it is simple and dirt cheap. Ok, this place is not a curry house - it is an upmarket restaurant - and the quality of the food was excellent. The mixed starter which we shared was really wonderful - interestingly flavoured meat, fish and vegetable and all with lots of chilli which I really enjoyed. And the mains were good. But not spectacular. Service is fine but nothing special - and the 12.5% that is added to the bill does seem a bit much especially when the bill is already so high! I’m not sure I’d come here again - if I was going to pay that much for dinner I would want to go somewhere I thought the money was better spent.

Excellent restaurant serving better-quality North Indian cuisine with a modern twist. Very pleasant ambience and attentive staff. The food is excellent and not pricey by the standards of the location. You can often get a table just by walking in earler in the evening. Highly recommended.

I have to second CaribQueen’s praise. I imagine if Jesus didn’t go for the bread and wine option at the last supper, he most likely would have popped into Red Fort on Dean street for a Rogan Josh and a pint of Cobra.
This place is fantastic. We were very well looked after and the curry was absolutely DELICIOUS. Of course, for such “death row” curry, one has to pay a premium, but in my eyes it is worth every penny (+ you can always go for the cheap £12 lunch menu). Red Fort, in my humble opinion, is head and shoulders above The Cinammon Club, Bombay Bicycle, Spice Tree et al. and i will be having some pretty firm words with myself if i don’t go back again in the next month.
5 and a half stars.

Easily one of the best Indian meals I’ve ever had. I was writing my review from the minute the attentive staff brought us some papadam after placing our order, which was accompanied by papaya, tomato and mango chutneys. All three chutneys were divine and I asked to keep them around for when the main course was brought out. Not that I thought I’d need it, but they were so good I couldn’t part with them just yet you see.
I had Lamb Roganjosh as a main and the meat was exceptionally tender, falling off the bone as they say. The assorted naan was delicious (white and wheat), and we were also brought some raita on the side, always a good pairing to counterbalance spicy dishes. I really enjoyed my meal, including the taste of the chicken curry I sampled from Andrew. The combination of chutneys on the side made everything that much better, and I’m pretty sure I’ll find my way back here within the next couple of weeks. They also have a £12 lunch special that looked worthy of a try-out, so maybe on my next visit.
