The cocktails are delicious and the choice is marvelous! I used to go here a few times a week but rarely go now because I finally met the owner. Such an impolite and conceited man. It really upset me to see how rude he was to customers who he wasn't on a first name basis with (i.e.most of the clientele). The comments he made seemed very 'high school.' It saddens me that I can't enjoy their coffee martinis or sex on the beach cocktails anymore, without remembering that its funding this unfriendly little man.

Great little bar under the arches in Peckham. It’s gotta be the cocktails here which are great, I’d recommend the mojitos & there’s 2 for 1 happy hour between 6 & 7. The pizzas are pretty good too with a variety of toppings you choose to create your own concoction. There’s also seating area out the front which is great in the summer but can get a little chilly on those cold winter nights. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Lovely spot underneath the arches or outside in the yard for a relaxing drink or three as the trains rumble overhead in and out of Peckham Rye station. Cocktails it has to be with prices ranging from £5.00 all the way up to a stonking £6.00 with a great deal on buy one get one for £1.00 between 1800 and 1900. The food is good too - nothing fancy or expensive - the jolly staff friendly and helpful. The only trouble is that all those reasonable drinks have to go somewhere in the end and the loos really aren't great, though by the time you've had a few you probably won't notice that too much.

As a non-local (but almost a friends-visitors-local) with frequent visits in Peckham I sorted my favorite hideaways out - after my third visit.
Peckham seems to offer ultimately rare places where you'd love to spend your time but here is one: Story, good for every time of the day. Breakfast, small snacks, or enjoying drinks with your friends at any time of the day. Here we go. The alternative and arty atmosphere promises a relaxed attendance. Lovely!

Artsy bar with seating made from railway sleepers, great happy hour when they do 2for1 on cocktails. Staff are nice, and quite attractive too. Good atmos, and the kids who go here are definitely from the trendy crowd, so I fit right in!
Be sure to check out the art gallery out the back!

This is a great little tucked away bar, underneath the railway arches of Peckham Rye Station, and boasts a huge choice of cocktails. They have a two-for-one happy hour which is worth taking advantage of. They have a lot of DJs visit, and is a popular venue for listening to new musical talent (they use the back garden area for small private gigs), although this is occasionally disrupted by trains rattling overhead. A unique and interesting place.

This is a cool little arty bar that sits under the Peckham train tracks (you can hear the trains rumble past every now and then). Its got a very relaxed and sociable feel with the music providing all things indie, hip-hop and lo-fi so that you can ease into the night.
They serve bar food such as nachos and wedges and have a wide range of cocktails that are 2 for 1 during happy hour.

Apparently the place to be for any artisto-wannabe, but not really worth the train or bus trek just to enjoy a few pints (their tap selection is very limited, by the way). It’s all good for South-eastern locals but a big no no for anyone else. Still, if you are an aspiring artist (this is me getting all diplomatic), the Sassoon Gallery at the back is a nice place to exhibit (a friend of mine was quoted a hiring fee of £ 250 a day)…

sophistar, 1 November 2007: Au contraire. I reallllllly disagree! It's worth a journey for sure! I'm south-east, but certainly not strolling distance. And definitely not an 'artisto-wannabe'... gosh i'm defending this place, demonstrative of my love... :)
Bar Story is like a local to me. I say like, as proxemics really aren't in Story's favour: it's not close by at all. But the easy, breezy, chilled yet cosy vibe that this place offers means it's closer to my heart than a jaded Wetherspoons could ever be - hop skip and a jump away, or not.
Located under railway arches and tucked behind vibrant Peckham High Street, Story is a find. A haven for creative types, the clientele is a mix of students, young locals, and bar veterans looking for a Mojito or more. They came to the right place. The cocktails here are sublime, and choosing from the crazily chalked extensive menu may take a few moments. Offers abound a la Story - try the buy one get one free happy hour and don't expect to be out before closing.
Music is provided by a variety of DJs, and is never what you might expect. May top 40 tunes never grace this place and may diversity remain. Oh and the grub - it's beautiful. Try the share share roast on a Sunday or burgers anytime.
Don't come to Bar Story and expect a sleek chic trendsetting atmosphere - if you want that, try-hard somewhere else. Fancy a late night mid week white russian as you browse the web on your macbook? South london sun with a mojito and meze? Sunday roast with a silly hat and stevie wonder soundtrack? If so then Story can help - it's perfect for all of these and more.
