I was here only yesterday evening, I went to the GBK in there for some tasty burgers.
I lived around that area of London a few years ago when I was a student and Spitalfields Market is probably the one place around Shoreditch which has transformed the most.
It used to just be a cut through to Brick Lane with a market at the end in 2007, with only about two restaurants and a shop, but now its full of cool shops and nice places to eat.
The market is great on the weekends, with a Pieminster and a bakery stall that sells some of the most delicious brownies I've ever tasted.

Spitalfields Market is not only a great market, but it's also in a great location - walking distance from Brick Lane and surrounded by nice bars, cool restaurants, cute shops, and a good musical venue, the Spitz. Though you might end up seeing too much of those scruffy things you find in Camden Town, concentrate on the sweets - fudge, liquorice... yummy.

I love Spitalfields, its so alive. except I would give a certain shop a very wide birth. Eight sq in Market street, a lovely shop specially for the girls. But beware of the owner she is a very nasty bulldog. Unfortunatly I was there on Sunday with a friend who went to look at a mother of pearl box not even picking it up. the lid slipped off, and chipped on one corner. The owner screamed and shouted at us like we were crininals and threatened to call security if we didnt pay for the item in full £65.00.
I am not normaly stuck for words, but was a little taken back by her attitude, and stood back while my friend paid for the item.
Had I known what I found out later she wouldnt have got a penny. she had no right to demand payment, and we should not have paid it.( sign on the wall or not.) We should have let her prove negligence. expensive lesson learnt.

Although not as great as it used to be - this is still a great place to go shopping if you are averse to the high street.
Aside from the Chinese stalls all selling the same stuff, you do get some great unique pieces from the designers who are just starting out.
There are plenty of places to eat which aren't too overpriced and it's always fun to just people watch sometimes too!

Spitalfields is a great little spot near London's Brick lane. Lots of cafes, shops and stalls selling everything ranging from handcrafted items and vintage clothing to belts, beltbuckles and sunglasses. Nice place to have a wander!

fongsaiyuk, 30 September 2010:
Very disappointed - at boutique prices, most of these market stalls do not belong on a market and many don't even respond to haggling! You're in the wrong place mate! Some nice things in among the pretention, but most of it pointlessly overpriced.
I saw a lovely pocketwatch on one stall - I went home and described it on ebay and bought it for about a 1/5th of the price.
The "market" is surrounded by overpriced boutiques and restaurants. Avoid if you dislike rip-offs.

The main bonus of Spitalfields is that it is under cover.
My favourite is the chocolate brownie stand which for £2 gives you the BEST Brownie in London.
You have your major chains as well. Real Greek, Pizza Express etc ...
You have as well all little independant shops, Market stalls and pubs.
Not on the same scale as Camden, however the best Market in East London

Was here on a Sunday morning after a night out. Only spent a few minutes in the place but got a quick walk around.
Bought a great coffee and chocolate cookie before I started and happily walked around taking in all the stalls and traders had to offer.
Some really nice foods, arts and crafts pieces. Everything from unusual music, rugs, painting, jewelery, clothes etc.
Will definitely call back when I have more time to spend and would happily recommend it for a pleasant afternoon out. Bound to find something to spend your hard earned cash on that will be a little bit different.
Also has boutiques and established businesses in the building surrounding the market which also looked nice.

First thing to note is that this market is closed on Saturdays! Made the mistake of trecking across here one freezing cold Saturday - oops. Nice market with load of independant stalls. Great to pick up some individual pices. Bit more upmarket than a few other markets such as Camden but still great for a look around.

Thursdays at Spits sees a fabulous antiques and curiosities market arrive where you can pick up pieces ranging from vintage vinal to victorian monkey skulls.
This surely is how markets are supposed to be!

I actually find this market quite pricey, but it does get very busy, so maybe thats just me!! Its still a great place to shop for something a little bit different and individual, such as gifts etc. There are many vintage stalls and new designers selling their good, as well as a huge array of jewelry stalls. The market is also surrounded by good places to eat or get a coffee, so you won’t go hungry or thirsty here!

Great indoor market with a wide variety of stalls for everything! Great for christmas presents. It does get really busy though with loads of tourists.
There is a great American diner and lots of take away food places for falafels etc.
Some of the stalls can be quite expensive but lots of variety for one off pressies for yourself or anyone else!

Spitalfields market has had a bit of a makeover in recent years adding a number of new shops and restaurants. They’ve done a really good job and it has added to what was already a great place to visit. The restaurants are mainly within the main market area of the building at the side and in the middle with some of the restaurants including canteen, las iguanas, leon, giraffe and gourmet burger kitchen, with more opening soon. There’s a nice range of shops with plenty of unusual and independent places. It’s a lovely place to spend some time browsing around or looking for gifts and the main markets are on it has a real bustle to it.

so so varied, and after the refit, feels like a posh outdoor department store! so the fact you cal still buy someone’s home made print t-shirts for a tenner makes you smile. NO shortage of places to eat and drink, and loads of textiles and clothes. always busy at the weekends but not as crushed as places like borough market.

I used to go here all the time. Now, not so much. I'm kinda bummed out by the renovation. It's okay and many of the same vendors and types of vendors are still there but ... (there's always a but) it just ain't got the same vibe that it used to have (pre-reno). Oh well.
I especially miss Bubba's:

Anyway, it's still a decent place in a cool area with lots going on.

although it is well known, i wouldn’t make a point of going there for what they sell- which is not much! its all a little tacky for my liking. the one thing i do like, however, is the food adn drink- quite adventurous you might say! the jacket potatoe stall is good- try it!
