Wilderness in the sights of the city. Take sturdy shoes and go exploring… mind the deer who roam around as freely as you do. It’s not really a place to set out a picnic and indulge in a little Pimms but you will leave feeling you’ve been to the wilds of Scotland for an afternoon. A very different London park experience.

Huge, wildlife park that stretches for miles covering a triangle of Kingston, Richmond and Roehampton. There are cycle paths and walkways right through the park and a huge lake to dip your feet into on a summers day. But one of the main attractions is the deer and other range of wildlife you can spot while roaming through it. It’s a classified as a National Nature Reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest - ooo er!

All in all it’s a wonderful escape from the chaos of London, and the route from up there from the tube is lined with cosy waterfront pubs serving good, reasonably priced drinks (real ale for those that way inclined and decent wine for those who aren’t) and hearty fresh food.

Superb park, where you can get away from London life. It’s absolutety vast with a number of entrances. from the top of the hill near Richmond gate you can see from Wembley to Docklands, and many landmarks in between.
There’s all sorts of wildlife the deer being the most obvious, you can walk ,cycle ,run, fish, read ,sit…it’s up to you.
In many places you can’t see the buildings of the outside world.
There are a couple of cafes, and toilets, it’s worth mapping these out before you start.
And of course there is the Isabella Plantation famous for it’s spring flowering azaleas and rhododendrons, it’s a fantastic facility, why not use it, and it’s free.

Richmond Park, at almost 1000 hectares (2500 acres), is the largest Royal Park in London and is home to around 650 free roaming deer. It is a view The pastoral landscape of hills, woodlands, ponds, gardens and grasslands set amongst ancient trees offers a peaceful respite to visitors. The Park is designated as a National Nature Reserve (NNR), a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).

Londoners are extremely fortunate to have been blessed with such a vast and beautiful place.

If you make it to the park, make sure you visit Isabella Plantation - a sanctuary within a sanctuary.

As a huge park fan Richmond still stands out! A massive park in Richmond, south West London – it is not rivalled in variety or size anywhere in London.
You find everything here from manicured lawns, pretty flower beds and stately trees to wild flowers in long grass and hidden nooks and crannies in clumps of trees.
Whether you want some privacy for a romantic picnic or space to stretch your legs on a jog, Richmond will have something suitable for you!
Unrivalled in the summer months, when there is enough shade to beat off the hot sun without the next group sitting on your lap and the gardens are at their most beautiful, Richmond is a joy in winter too. The silence that wraps around you like a blanket makes you forget you are in the city and the crunching of footsteps on the icy ground forms a background for your mind to wander.
Any time of the year, the slight hike one needs to make to get here is worth it!

This is one of the most awesome parks in London. Based in Richmond in the (slightly) south west, it is a huge rambling park with cleared areas, wild areas and the most incredible trees. Whether you want to head down for a picnic or a walk or to play a bit of footie, this park caters for all. It is friendly and rambling and brilliant to explore, so take your time about it! An obvious choice for summer, it is also good for a fresh winter ramble.

Richmond park is one of my favourite places to drive around, its so pictureseque and one can imagine that they are many miles from the stresses of london life. A favourite personal stop is a short distance from the Richmond hill entrance to the park where there is a small cafe that serves fabalous ice cream and then there is the little white house and pretty gardens to sit down and take in, great in company or alone!not forgetting the deers...i love spring when all the little ones arrive...reminds me of bambi!

Richmond park is a short walk from the train station and is easily accessible from the centre of London. I find it a get place to relax and extremely beautiful on a sunny day with the river flowing right by it. There is a lovely conservatory with a nice range of flowers and plants inside. The cafe within the park is cute and does not stand out but blends in, however being quite pricey. It is a great place for a walk or picnic.

Where does one begin to extol the virtues of this wonderful, vast open space? I love running here: so many options, if I want a quick run I just go from Kingston Gate to Ham Gate and back and enjoy the glorious scenery, whatever the season. Autumn is especially gorgeous with the warm hues and beautiful light.

When I want a longer brisk walk, or run, I head-up towards Roehampton Gate. The hill can feel a little steep when you're not at your fittest but I love the challenge. Once over the hilly climb you get the chance of an easy run downhill surrounded by fabulous panoramic views. If you prefer solitude it's best to avoid Sundays when it's extremely popular (unsurprisingly) with large family groups.

Highlights include the beautiful deer; autumnal blackberry picking and being spoilt for choice for picnic locations.

Richmond is a very grand park, on a huge scale. Great sweeps of grassland, lovely woods, hills and views of the valley of the Thames. Few people could walk round it. In fact that’s one thing I don’t like about this park: the scale is such that most visitors feel the need for their cars, so you can’t really escape them. It’s not too bad a problem though.

For runners there are paths around the edge of the park. To be honest they are slightly annoying. They meander very prettily, but that means your chance of measuring an accurate distance is pretty low.

Of course such a large park does have a lot of amenities, well spread around the park. One really great thing is the good availability of water fountains at the toilets. There’s also things to see, such as the viewpoint mentioned by another visitor.

For running, while it might be difficult to get a good distance measurement, it is a good place to do a long run. You can run for miles without repeating yourself, and get in a few hills while you are at it. I hear they’ve now started a weekly time trial event, something I’ll have to get round to trying!

Though I’ve given a fair few negatives, I do love this park.

Awesome for bike rides. If you live in SW London and you own a bike, make your way down to Richmond park. It's hours of fun and it really feels like you are a million miles from London. All the previous reviewers have mentioned the deer, the trees, the beautiful landscape..... but nobody has mentioned the golf course! I know, I know, it's only a golf course. But Richmond Park Golf Course is probably one of the best public courses in London + it's only about £12 for a twilight round.

If you do visit Richmond Park, you’ll forget you’re in London. Teeming with deer, budgies, squirrels, geese and other wildlife, it is a pleasant escape from the concrete jungle of London. Aside from the roads that run through it filling up at rush hour, and the flats looming behind the woodlands, a conveniently located breath of fresh air.

what can I add? Such an easy place to get to and yet you are suddenly wisked away to another place seemingly miles from London. Great for bike rides, running or romantic strolls. The view from King Henry VIII's mound on a summers evening is breathtaking as the sun lights up the dome of St Pauls and the Canary Wharf sky scrapers over 12 miles away (this vista is protected).

Richmond Park is what a park is supposed to be! It is all about the amazing landscape -grasslands, woodlands, lakes. The wildlife is amazing -lots of deer wondering around. It gives you a sense of freedom, tranquility. A good walk certainly recharges your batteries. The breeze of fresh air is just what a londoner needs.

Richmond Park is my favourite park in London. Wild and unspoilt, it's an oasis of beauty in what is, well, already quite nice if you come in from the Richmond gate! The main attraction is probably the herd of around 600 deer who roam freely throughout the park. I believe there are around 4-5 different kinds, but I'm no deer-expert. What is the technical term for a that? If the signs are to be believed there are a lot of other flora and fauna to see too. There are small ponds, lakes, woods, fields, hills, and the walk/cycle round the edge is about 10 miles, or something. Knackering. But a lovely place in the right weather...

Richmond Park is a beautiful place and a great place to take time out in such a busy city.

I train for rugby on the pitches there at weekends, and so do many other sports team. There are many cyclers, ramblers, joggers, people having picnics and watching the deer, walking dogs, people playing golf over the other side- there is so much to do here and all for nothing!

The car park is a good size but can fill up quickly on nice days so get there early and really make the most of it. There is an on-site cafe but I'd recommend bringing your own or driving into Richmond, Putney or Wimbledon for lunch.

Ricmond park is a great place to have a picnic and the surrounding area is beautiful as well. We often go there for a walk look at the deer and bask in the sun - then walk to a pub for lunch. It is never to busy or overcrowded so it feels as though you are miles out of london. there are plenty of bike tracks around as well so it is nice to go riding.
