i went to city cuts after an bad experience at the salon i used , they did a bad job which i was afraid would happen as my regular salon closed , city cuts were very proffesional and understood my dilema , the hair stylist , Sandra ,  was very sympathetic with what had happened and very proffesional giving no criticism just advice and offerded me with the best solution she could provide , which was excellent , i was extremely happy
with her attitude and i fealt so much happier leaving city cuts , i will be coming back , many thanks , Sandra .

This place is a nightmare.  I went to the Baker Street branch and received one of the worst haircuts of my life.  The stylist was very rough, tugging and combing through my long, fine hair like a butcher.  I asked for a trim and to have my layers freshened up and left with my hair looking like a broom.  It was as if she just cut a straight line across the bottom of my hair.  It looks ridiculous.  I voiced my displeasure and they did not apologise or offer to fix it.  I have NEVER received such bad customer service from a hair salon in my life.  Rude and unprofessional staff, unpleasant salon environment (was never once even offered a glass of water!) and horrible haircut.  I highly recommend avoiding this dump.

To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement - very reasonable prices for a great cut. I have long thick difficult hair and Paolo did a great job!

I really like City Cuts - they are centrally located, and offer a great value for money. I pay for a hair cuts + highlights + lowlights (full head, a short bob) about £100, which is very reasonable (if not to say cheap!). Usually I would be suspicious I can get a good service at that price, and I am VERY fussy with my hair, but I found a great stylist - Andrea (aka AJ), who is an Australian hairdressing miracle. I am a big fan of her talent - she is really a profi, and very versatile too, as she is equally brilliant with long and short hair, and with blond and dark colours (yes, I tried it all!). Another plus - she never dumps her problems on her clients, and is always friendly and attentive. The manager, Maria, is very fair and welcoming (she can be mostly found in the reception area), and remembers customer preferences well. While waiting for my hair to be dyed, I am always offered tea/coffee/water, and their coffee is great (they have purchased a professional coffee machine a while ago). Plus, they are centrally located, meaning I can go shopping afterwards. Great!

Was looking for a better value hairdressers near my work and went here for a cut and blow dry having read the other reviews. Can highly recommend it!

It is very unpretentious, which I loved but if you're used to higher end salons you may not- no tea or coffee, basic decor, bustling rather than calm atmosphere. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming which is better than a lot of other places- I really hate surly receptionists.

The hairdresser (zlata) did an amazing job. She checked carefully what I wanted and has given me a really good cut- much better than the last one I had from a much more expensive place. As I have a bob it requires a certain level of precision cutting and her technique was flawless. She even showed me a new way of blow drying my hair at home, and having tried it myself now it's brilliant- it's the first time in years I've got my hair to look super sleek without the aid of straighteners.

It cost me £32.90 as my hair is mid length- it's slightly less for short and slightly more for long hair. If you want to save money you could wash your hair yourself at home and skip the blowdry- then it would only be £18.50. There is no pressure to have a blowdry, she checked with me if I wanted one before she started cutting.

They have a loyalty system where if you go 6 times you get your next cut half price. Will definitely be returning!

I cannot recommend this place enough!!!

I walked in with terrible hair from another (very pricey) salon and walked out with hair that looks JUST how I wanted it. Haven't been this happy with my hair for ages!

They were all friendly, and the girl listened to my wishes and gave me a really great cut, treatment and colour. She coloured it in two steps to achieve the colour I wanted, and it wasn't even expensive. Unfortunatly I didn't catch her name - so I can't recommend her personally. Hopefully, they can find out who it was next time I'm going.

Additionally I like, that they are not aggressively trying to sell you a lot of products like all the other salons I've been to. I got good advice when I asked about products and I did end up buying some products, but I just really prefer this non-aggressive style.

I've been going here on and off for a few years and have never had a bad cut. Several different stylists have cut my hair and all have been friendly and experienced. I've found I can usually walk in without an appointment on weekday evenings which is great.

My only issue is that although it was amazing value when I had short hair, for very long hair (mine is about armpit level) the price for wash, cut and dry goes up to about £40 - no cheaper than other salons.

Review of City Cuts & Colours Hair Salon from 4 December 2010
(updated on 27 January 2011 )

Found the salon while searching google for a London salon that wasn't too pricey. After seeing good reviews and scouring the price list, I decided that I could swing the price of a highlight and cut if I left with wet hair. The services are listed a la carte on the price list, and to add a blow dry to another service was £19.90 for my length hair. As I felt confident in my ability to blow dry my own hair, but not to cut or colour it, I felt that saving an amount equal to the cost of my own blow dryer was perfectly rational. I am cash-strapped enough that I actually have cut and coloured my own hair, but am very aware that a professional job looks noticeably better.

The cut is quite nice -- not the very best I've ever had but certainly far from the very worst. The highlights are ok -- the light parts are great, but a dark mahogany lowlight that is several shades darker than my natural colour was also included, which was not made apparent to me during the process. I would have opted out of the dark lowlight, as I was trying to lighten up my hair and now have to figure out what to do with reddish dark streaks that are probably permanent and won't lighten up with the rest of my hair in the summer.

To be fair, the colour on the tube may have read "medium blond" or something -- my naturally medium blond hair soaks up such a colour and interprets it as dark copper. If there had been a little more communication and explanation during this process, I could have shared this bit of information with my hairdresser. Besides the colour of the lowlight, the highlights were done well -- nice and fine, not too chunky.

When I went in, I specifically asked for highlights, a cut, and no blow dry. But when it came to the end and I had to remind the hairdresser that I didn't need a blow dry (she had picked up the blow dryer and was about to begin), the hairdresser became rather icy. She glared at me and asked sarcastically if I really wanted to leave with wet hair. I confirmed that the blow dry was an extra charge and explained that as I was a student I would have to do without. I'm sure that the blow drying fee at this place is like food at the cinemas -- a major source of quick and easy income, but as the salon advertises itself as being lower cost, cash-strapped people are bound to find it and opt out of that £20 service. Spending upwards of £65 for hair may be "cheap" in London, but as a student with much more money going out than coming in, I feel that spending that much should still allot a customer some basic respect.

With a decent cut, slightly off colour, and rude service, I probably won't be coming back.

UPDATE: I did receive a response from the owner apologizing for my experience -- so it is possible that what happened to me was not the norm. Perhaps my hairdresser was just having a bad day.

Review of City Cuts & Colours Hair Salon from 14 June 2010

Based on the reviews I read on Qype I decided to give the Baker Street City Cuts salon a go for a full head of blonde highlights. Having just returned to London from uni, I needed a new hairdresser and am so pleased I have found City Cuts! I have been getting highlights for about seven years and these guys are some of the best.

I am SO SO impressed with them. Not only were they really sweet about the fact that I was incredibly late, but I found every member of staff to be polite, outgoing and kind.

My hairdresser was called Dalna and she was totally brilliant. She listened to me, helped me choose new shades of blondes, made sure I was 100% happy with what we were going to do and was SO quick! I am used to paying about four times as much for highlights that are quite frankly, not as good. They look gorgeous and I keep grinning every time I see them in the mirror. I cannot recommend this place more highly - its very, very good and ridiculously cheap!

Was looking for a cheap but "safe" place to get my highlights done and found this place randomly on google. Abby, from the Baker street salon, did a good job, the colour was not exactly the one I had in mind, but looks good too...can´t complain, good service, friendly staff, quick and under 35 quid.

Dalhia did a great job on cutting my hair. Few hairdresser know how to do a short cut without making it looking it too masculine, but Dhalia did :)
Will definitively come back!

I always go here for a wash and blowdry, nothing else. I also always book but I have no idea why because walk ins appear to get priority. But it is cheap, by london standards- long hair blowdry £21.90 amd the wait wouldnt be so bad but i’m usually getting a blowdry before catching a plane, so the wait then is never good.
Have never really had a totally rotten blow dry but it really depends who you get as to how much value for money it is, as theres one scary blonde girl who manages to rip out most of my hair by the root while simultaneously blowdrying my hair flat to my head(its a gift i tells you) oh and try not to get the wine expert who drones on about how smart he is and is the last person you want to listen to after a long day at work!

Frances from City Cuts & Colours gave me the exact hair style that I was idealizing in my mind. A guy from my class wouldn't leave me alone later that day because I looked "striking" and "really nice" and claimed we didn't talk enough, haha. When I left the salon, the hair was still clinging to my head a little from my previous hair cut. I woke up this morning to find that it looked totally totally awesome and has so much style and isn't weighed down anymore, etc. I'm extremely happy! Frances is the best. Also, it was only 20 and that was good.
