I attended Guava after a recommendation from a friend that went there for birthday surprise. Upon arriving i recieved a very warm welcome form all the staff and immediately felt at home.

I sat at the bar where i enjoyed some drinks including their house special guava juice. i found the atmosphere to be cosy and relaxing with a funloving and high spirited undercurrent.

I made my way over to the seating area whereby we enjoyed curry goat, jerk chicken, seasoned rice, and a special vegetable stew. the food was enjoyable and unique. i found the food was like home made jamaican cooking with a hint of something special giving it a spark unlike anything i have tasted before.

After my initial visit i have ordered on many occassions form there and each time the food and service has been better than the last. Upon my last few visits i have gotten to know the staff on a more personal level including one of the managing directors rose whom specialises in cooking an excellent steam fish, fried fish, vegetables in garlic sauce and a vegeterian red pea soup, she provides a good service. and i have learnt that she will be offering vegetarina healthier options.

Guava is a good night out with it live music, as well as good for party bookings and luncheons.

All in all guava is well rounded business which i can see going far in the forseeable future. It caters to all and an experice which is worthwhile.

We went to Guava just after it opened to support our local community. The welcome was very warm including handshakes so we were in good spirits. Unfortunately the service was no where near our first impression and though we were the only costumers for most of the time it was hard to get any attention to order drinks etc. Furthermore the staff did not know what beers were available from the bar or seemed to be able to answer any simple questions.
The food was a mixed experience. The two plates of curry goat went down very well and are the only reason for Guava getting two stars from me. The vegetarian dish had non of the ingredients mentioned on the menu, but consisted mainly of cabbage. It actually tasted very nice but my friend would have preferred to get what she had asked for. We did not complain as the service was so sporadic that we thought it was not worth it. When it came to paying the bill the service came to its lowest as all visible staff was at another table having food and paying no attention to us - their only costumers. So in the end we had to get up and interrupt their little cosy setup.
Unless service has improved over the last weeks I would only recommend to go if you have a curry goat craving!
