I am giving them 1 star because I am not able to give them 0
I can only talk about the restaurant, we book a table for 10 people for saturday dinner. I was a bit surprised we had to pay 50 pound to book the table (never ever had in a london restaurant) all “good” up to here.
We arrived on time (8.30) and we were asked to queue because the place was holding a gig in the attached space. The problem is that the queue they told us to be was a guest list queue for the concert, for people who booked tables in the bar not the restaurant.
We weren’t warned to come in advance because of this and actually 4 of our friends were inside because they came earlier.
In the end after 45 minutes waiting they tell us that because it’s after 9 we had to pay 15 pounds each to get inside! what!!!!!
Guys, this thing you got restaurant/bar/club/“we are cool, you have to wait” stinks
Seriously! I am now trying to get the booking money back because we left really mad, and after 1 month I haven’t had a reply from them jet.
I think this behaviour should be reported to the citizen’s advice office.
Having a trendy place doesn’t mean you can ride roughshod over all customers wrights.
I love this place! Seriously, I love it. it is big, it has an outside area which is also huge.
It plays good music, and it seems like there are three rooms if i remember correctly. One with a huge bar and two smaller ones at either end. You can party all night, or party then chill outside or on their comfy sofas.
Located under a bridge its one of those iconic locations with the entrance opposite a big typographic painting (cant remember what it said) that was the backdrop for a tv advert recently (2011) cant remember the advert.
great place to go. can be long queues to get in. Open during the day. will amend my review and add my day time experience soon.
How long do you have to queue to get into a place these days?! Cargo didn’t score well as the security seemed intent on not letting people in! One thing or another, -m y friend was just a little bit tipsy but nothing to create about and it was so stressful. Aren’t we here to have fun?! Lighten up bouncers! Luckily we persuaded them to let us all in and after a cocktail or 2 had a good night.
A cool little venue – bit quirky, bit different, and prices aren’t too bad either. They don’t accept card and the sound isn’t 100% amazing. But that aside well worth a visit every now and then.

Architectural, higgildy, graffiti, plants, bbq, music all under one roof, well railway tunnel. Food is well priced, drinks are a bit expensive.
greta place to got to party or to chill with friends with nice big gardend and a big dance floor. cheap drinks aswell and lovely crowed and ladies …..
Cargo is one of the main bar/clubs in Old Street and offers a child out atmosphere with some great live band nights. I recommend Wonky Pop , which has had some great performances including Mr. Hudson and Library in the past.
If you are looking for pop tunes or RnB and a great place to dance this probably isn’t for you. If you want to relax and talk with friends for parts of the night and then listen to great live music you should check it out.
Quite cool place in the middle of Shoreditch. If you like electronic music you will most likely also enjoy Cargo. The outdoor area is really nice and you can go out for smoking, socializing or listen to the live sets.

Urgh. Don't do it. I've given this place many chances and every time I hate it more.
Generic music, too many people, expensive entry and drinks.
No, just no.
Stylish sophisticated ravers. Great music, lovely venue, clean toilets, wicked little garden, bouncers are cool not to in your face.
Great nights good day time Sunday venue.
The nights at Cargo vary widely. The number of times I've been there I have heard all kinds of music from salsa to deep house. It's a pretty big club with plenty of space to sit down on comfy sofas if you feel like taking 5. Prepare for tourists though, since it's one of the biggest clubs in the area there are plenty to be had! Other than that the crowd is fairly mixed and unintimidating and everyone always seems to be there for a good time.
There is a lovely big garden to smoke in and a great little photobooth to have your photo taken in when you get to that stage of drunkenness when crowding 15 people in a 3x3 space seems perfectly normal and acceptable.
Friendly people, good music, nice garden, not too many girls in short skirts with their fannys hanging out (but a couple).
All round great place, I would go here again. My friend booked a big table outside for her birthday which worked so well. Queues at the bar not too long and everyone else had v tasty looking food.
Drinks a bit expensive though and I didn't stay to dance, but others had much fun.
Why don't I go to Cargo more often? I'm pretty sure my first visit to this vibey Shoreditch club / venue was more than 5 years ago. I saw a friend perform on stage - she was ace - ate some food I thought was too expensive then went home.
The second time I visited was last night, when I spent five hours sipping white wine and listening to interesting women talk about their experiences in the music industry as part of an AIM event. I didn't eat, so can't comment on the menu / pricing, but I did notice three things that made me regret my lack of additional trips to Cargo over the years: 1) really yummy house white wine 2) really attractive male bartenders and 3) really lovely benches outside for summer evening drinking of aforementioned white wine.
Cargo - I will be back!
I came here for an event on Wednesday, and whilst it's not the first place I would think of coming, I like the space. But, it's so vast that unless it's really pumping on a Friday night, it can feel a bit meh. The only place it was busy was the area that was cordened off for the event.
But, the staff were friendly, the space is amazing and they can whip up a decent cocktail (whilst flirting, which is always appreciated). The stupid thing is, I'm not really a 'big dancey bar' kinda girl, I'm getting old after all. So whilst I think it's too boring mid-week, I'm not sure I'd come here late on a Friday either. There's no happy medium with this bar, and call me dull and old before my time (many people do), but I'm a big fan of the happy medium.
I can't fault this place, it does everything you expect a huge warehouse bar in Shoreditch to do. I just wouldn't come back.
I would say Cargo is one of my favourite former venues in East London. I've had some ace nights there and they've played host to some excellent events, as well as striving to find interesting new bands and acts to put on.
Unfortunately of late and due to new management the venue has become a bit of a stick in the mud, with the music becoming much more commercial and sentiments generally being geared to making money and attracting City boys customers rather than your typical Shoreditch dwellers. Which is a real shame since it was clearly a venue that focused on the music and attracting a younger, creative crowd.
Who knows what Cargo will be like in five years!
I went to this club Friday and my opinion is mixed.
In the one hand, the place is good, big and there is good music. We enjoyed the time staying here.
In the other hand, the doors man are aggressive, unhappy. One of my friend was so happy and they didn't like that and we had to explain that it was his birthday to calm them.
Besides, drinks are very expensive.
But you should try it
Celticollette how bizarrre that someone should be smiling and happy when they are going for a night out...
Doormen sound grumpy :(

Cargo puts and keeps live gigs with about to break acts and DJ's on the map.
Free Fridays which ran through the worst part of this year of the great recession made things all the better.
With art exhibits as well as an OK dining menu which the portions are a bit small.
I went to DJ Tim Sweeney's Beats in Space set here and got my rocks off.
A good venue for gigs or other events, but not necessarily somewhere you'd want to hang out for any length of time, Cargo is a smallish venue in Shoreditch that puts on a good wide range of acts in an 'intimate' setting.
They do try and raise themselves above the level of 'just a gig venue' by serving food and putting on a number of club nights, but unless you're an east London hipster with baggy jean pockets stuffed with daddy's money then don't expect much.
The gigs I've been to here have been good though, they have a decent sound system and they try and do something different with visuals/[projections etc - but I've always headed for the door as soon as the gig was over.
A really cool venue - my reason for visiting Shoreditch about 3 out of 4 times. Great eclectic music acts, drinks, grungy but cool, great people, friendly atmosphere, and the best part for me : outdoor patio bit away from music, to get some air and chitchat.
Gotta love Cargo!
They always get really good acts, Free Fridays are great and the revellers aways seem like a nice bunch!
Serves tasty food, has great outside seating, a really eclectic selection of music and events and the main DJ room has excellent sound where you can feel the bass in your heart and it tickles your nose! Just how I like it!
