This pub/restaurant seems to be trading on its past glories. The quality of the fish was very good although the chef would seem to be less commited to detail than the person who selected the fish. The decor was 'fisherman' inspired which may not appeal to all - although we do like it. However, it seems best to avoid anything that is not fish or vegeterian as the other dishes can be of variable quality.
The price of the food is expensive for Lowestoft but reasonable for those used to paying City prices.
We will go back, but will stick to the fish.

This pub was recommended to us by family and friends so we thought we’d give it a try. We arrived late but just in time for last orders on a mid-week lunchtime. Initially the head chef had to be approached to see if we could have something off the a la carte which seemed a bit off as we’d only arrived a couple of minutes past the deadline. However, the food was excellent both cod and chips and lemon sole fillets were excellent and portions huge! Adnams beer was delicious as always…Met the owner who was very pleasant and welcoming. Worth a visit just for the food.

This gastropub has recently won the National Award of the Sea Fish Assoc for excellence of its marine cuisine. I visited on a lunchtime with my wife and two friends, and certainly the quality of the food was first class, we all had a different fish (salmon, sea bream, sea bass and cod). However on arrival we were standing around for some minutes before any attention was paid to us. We hadn’t prebooked, yet there were plenty of tables available. We were made to go back into the bar area to be allocated a table number. There as a feeling of general 'surliness’ and 'coudn’t care less’ attitude from several of the staff, making us feel we didnt really want to return, despite the excellent food. What a pity ! Come on - get your act together.
