There seems to be a Greggs on every corner in Edinburgh… and at lunchtime you’ll always find queues. But I can see why, they have a great selection and loads for veggies, I quite like the cheese and onion pastie, get it heated and it’s to die for!

I'm astounded that anyone can consider the anemic, yeast deficient, underbaked dough that passes for bread good. This place uses the poorest ingredients to make the cheapest possible food for people who have expensive dental bills.

Gregg's, once discovered as a chain, is generally loved as a quick-stop sandwich shop with great value food. They bake fresh bread and make sandwiches fresh each day, and also offer a range of 'bakes' and pasties which come warm and very tasty! The staff are always really friendly will even sing to you if its a particularly cheerful day! Branches all over Newington can be seen with their 'blue and orange squares' logo. Popping in here is as cheap as major supermarkets, with much less of a queue. Recommended are the 'tuna crunch' and 'new orleans chicken' sandwiches, or the 'chicken bake'.
