Review of Jimmy Chungs Waverley from 30 August 2011

It’s handy for Waverley if you want a big greasy meal either just before you get on a train, or just after. But it’s pretty expensive if you don’t want a big meal.

The food is perfectly adequate. It’s not particularly good, but it’s not bad either. I’m a vegetarian and there’s a reasonable range of dishes, all clearly marked. You can eat your fill and then some.

All drinks (including soft drinks and tea or coffee) are extra, and they’re really not cheap either.

Worth going there if you’re hungry and in a hurry to catch a train – because it’s buffet-style you don’t have to worry about waiting, and service is brisk and competent.

Review of Jimmy Chungs Waverley from 20 February 2011

i had the worst experiance dining here. me and my friend wanted to go out and have a nice meal, so we desided to go to Jimmy Chungs.
the staff greeted us nicely the lead us to our seat. we colected our starter and started to eat, i had chosen spare ribs in a sause, as its quite a messy food i didnt want to eat it with my fingers, so i took my knife and started taking of the meat, then i saw that the meet was pink - uncooked - i couldnt belive my eyes, i got the attention of the waiter and alerted him, he took the plate - with the uncooked rib - away and said he would say to the chef. i was miffed by this, but i was admit on having a good meal, so i went up for my main course and stayed away form the ribs. as far as i had noticed nothing was wrong with this course.
as i went up for my desert i collected an ice cream dish. i was eating it when i noticed that there was, what looked like to be a thin bone in the ice cream, this was inside the scupe of ice cream so it couldnt have been something that had fallen on the dish while carrying to my table. i asked the waitress if i could speek to the manager of the restraunt, as this had been the second thing that could potentonaly harmed me (i may have caught food poinsoning or choked on the small bone) i was having a descousion with the manager, and was complaing about my very poor meal, when she started to raise her voice at me - witch grew to her shouting. she was telling me that i was wrong and it wasnt her fault that the rib wasnt cooked, as she tolled me, numoros time how it was cooked, and her answer to the ice cream situation was that she will take it way and i was to help myself to another one. i was not happy with the was i was treated and tolled them that i shouldnt have to pay for a meal that was not cooked and was breaking health and hiyeine laws. after more shouting from the manager she leaves and collects my bill, and as someone who has eaten out before i know that the leave a dish with a reiept on your table and collect it when you've left - but the Manager stood at the table while me and my friend looked at the bill and sorted out money. i felt under an enormous amount of presior having to count money, because of the poor service me and my friend were not leaving a tip, and beacuse of the presure i was under, we misscounted by 2p, the manager said in a very rude tone about this, as i went into my purse i gave the remaning money, as i plased this down she lifted the receipt tray and returned to the bar, where she spoke to her colleage about me and my friend and gave us a very dirty look.
i left the restraunt feeling very anrgy and upset at the way i was treated.
i can safly say that i will never return to Jimmy Chungs

we went for dinner yesterday and had a blast , staff were very friendly and service was quick , we tried everything that was there , n believe me the list is soooo big,
starters were great , mains were awesome , just loads of different tastes
and dessert was good , i had a vanilla ice cream which actually tastes like vanilla not milk :) and fruit salad which was really nice.

thumbs up

oh the price is magical , we paid 25 for two with drinks and that is nothing in edinburgh

I had lunch at Jimmy Chungs Waverly around three times a month. Food is fine and reasonable price esp if u go there for lunch from Mon-Thu. However, Jimmy Chungs in Stirling is not as good as in Edinburgh esp taste and quality.

Chinese food restaurant in Scotland ... super greasy food. Although the staff is excellent!
Great price, but the stomach will make you pay the double after having eaten there.
Never again.

 Cheap and stomach filling though it may be, it's maybe not where I'd want to go back to. It is very busy and it shows in it's condition ~ reminds me of the old greasy cafe"s 

This place came to the rescue when friends and I were out and about and the hunger pangs set it. It's a no fuss buffet with some really delicious food. The setting though isn't one I'd chose for a special occasion, it was more casual and laid back- screaming children didn't help either. The best thing? It's cheap. It hits the spot.

Review of Jimmy Chungs Waverley from 28 March 2010

I'm not a fan of buffet style restaurants, so after wandering the streets of Edinburgh looking for somewhere cheap to eat, it was with trepidation that I ended up here.

This is just the sort of restaurant that I try to avoid, but I absolutely loved this place! The selection of food was incredible and food was served hot unlike some restaurants that use bain maries to heat the food. As well as Chinese food, Jimmy Chung's sell dishes from around Asia. The Thai yellow curry was amazing and I just couldn't get enough of the Mongolian lamb. The dessert selection is a little on the small side; but lets face it, with the amount of food on offer, whose going to be saving themselves for desert! Jimmy's is a chain restaurant, but for Londoners like me the closest is in Scotland- if I'm ever in the area again I won't hesitate to return!

Jimmy Chung's Chinese buffet tries to substitute quality for quality, but come here for sure if what you're after is simply to gorge yourself on greasy food.

Not that much in the way of vegetarian or vegan options either.

This is a good place to go for a quick lunch as it isn’t as expensive earlier in the day.

There’s the usual Chinese takeaway style choice of food but I often feel they could have better choice, such as more seafood.

However you can always find something to eat and I love the mango puree pudding things!

One advantage of going here is that they don’t mind you drinking tap water! My friend and I go quite regularly as she loves it and when we both ask for water they bring a jug with ice. Whereas a lot of other Chinese buffets don’t let you as they probably want the extra cash from selling drinks.

This restaurant called Jimmy Chungs on Waverley Bridge is a great place to dine out with family or friends. They offer a range of chinese food in a buffet meal. The starters, mains are lovely and taste delicious. The dessert range is great from icecream to cakes. The waiters or waitress are very quick at their jobs and don’t keep you waiting for long. It does get very busy there, so I do think booking is a good idea just to make sure you get a space if you have more than 5 guests. Its got a great view so you can see out and the restaurant is near the train station too.

Jimmy chungs is a fantastic little chinese buffet located on Waverly Bridge next to the train station. They have almost every kind of chinese dish you can imagine for £5.99 at lunch time and £10.99 at dinner time. The restraunt is very big inside and is probably has the nicest staff in the entire New Town.

On a scale of 1 - 10 with 1 being lowest and 10 being highest, i’d give jimmy chungs an 11.

Review of Jimmy Chungs Waverley from 25 November 2008 (updated on 30 November 2008)

This is the ideal place to go if you are on a budget but want to treat yourselves to a meal out. It’s not what I’d call gourmet eating, but they have an all-you-can-eat buffet for about £10 a head and I’ve never had a problem getting a table by just turning up and waiting a couple of minutes, although I dare say it depends whey you go. I think it’s really handy if you’re out and about in the city centre doing an afternoon’s shopping and you fancy stopping off for something to eat before heading home. Jimmy’s has really good food, at very reasonable even cheap prices. It’s a fun place to be, with a light and bubbly atmosphere.

Review of Jimmy Chungs Waverley from 18 November 2008

Jimmy Chungs is a good Chinese buffet restaurant on Waverley Bridge next to the train station. When I visited it was moderately busy, I sat down and ordered a beer straight away and then set upon the buffet. The buffet contained every dish you would expect to see at a Chinese restaurant, you can have as much as you want for ten pounds or so. The staff were friendly and helpful when needed.
Don’t go here for a gourmet restaurant experience, it’s not that type of place, it’s great if you’re on your own or with friends and want your food quickly.

if you want a chinese buffet in Edinburgh, this is the place to go, this is the nicest one, with nice seats and tables, and a great choice of food, where you can help yourself to as much as you want for very reasonable prices, great for a crowd of people also, as it is very noisy place.
