I reallt love this beach, have so many fond memories of going here when I was a child. The beach has been cleaned up and is always busy when the sun comes out. There is also playparks, amusements, public toilets and if you can get into one of the back streets parking very nearby too. Always a great day out.

Having lived in Portobello all my live I have grown up with the luxury of having a beach. But I never get bored of it having a 2 wonderful play park and 2 amusement parks.

The beach is stunning and is even more beautiful when the tide is in need less to say it is always mobbed with the sun is out. So if you like it peaceful watch the weather before you go to sunny and you will not be able to move.

There is also some lovely glassy areas ideal for picnics with out the sand. Not only that there are nice sea front cafe’s and pubs.

Also you are just a 5 minute from the high street which has lots of good places to eat and amazing unique little shops such as as “It’s a small world” doll house shop.

Not to mention it has a wide range of charity shop with i have found so many little lucky in.

Portobello is a amazing place to live and visit

Portobello is a real cool place to visit and live. The weather is never boring (i.e. no sunny days all year round ;¬)). The beach is long and generally clean.
The locals take an interest in their habitat and there is a community feel about the place.
I was born and brought up in Portobello and although I’ve travelled extensively and lived elsewhere for a few years, I have not found any place to entice me to live elsewhere.

On the 24th Aug 2008 from 1pm, Portobello Open Door (a group of local volunteers) is hosting a day of free entertainment, music and dance with fun for all ages. Come along and join in.

Portobello beach was loved by my two kids, it has a playpark and an arcade and even swimming baths on the promenade.
I stumbled across it when i was away with my other half whilst he was working there , my kids could see the sea from the city centre so just asked a taxi driver could they take me to the seafront . Was pleasantly surprised must admit the first time i went the weather wasnt great but the second time we went we had a great time as it was a lovely day.
My impressions of the beach was lovely and clean , my kids had a paddle even though it was a bit cold.
The town itself is nice too although we couldnt really find anywhere to eat with the kids.

I love Portobello beach, I suppose it is kind of Edinburgh's answer to Blackpool on a smaller less tacky scale! It used to be more of a big deal a few years back before foreign holidays and computers became more popular. It is situated just off the High Street in Portobello and has an amusements arcade which is good for children and adults with some smaller rides for the kids. Portobello is also quite a nice place it has a few nice pubs and cafes and plenty of shiops if you want to get a picnic in the summer. The water is quite clean for a Scopttish beach and its possible to have a paddle or a swim if you are brave. There are also public loos right next to the cross roads in the centre of Portobello if you are visiting. This is also a great place to walk the dogs any time of year.

Edinburgh's sea-side resort! Portobello beach is somewhere I was taken as a small child and remember affectionately, although it used to be so dirty that we'd all come home with orange hands and feet (yuck!) They've made quite an effort to clean it up in recent years and it even had a clean beach flag until last year, when a leak at Seafield sewage works temporarily ruined things. It's a real community area, and everyone felt the disappointment, but they're hopeful that the place will be certifiably clean by Summer 2008. For now, it would probably be best not to swim, but it's still a great place to visit! During the day it is the preserve of sight-seers and locals walking dogs or playing games, and at night it becomes the domain of teenagers who have bonfires and such, usually pretty amiably. Summer Solstice, Bonfire Night and New Year are the times to go if you want some good community-spirited fun: there are fireworks and friendly groups of locals all along the beach! There's a yearly art installation and the swimming pool that faces onto the beach is particularly remarkable for its amazing Turkish baths. There are also games arcades at one end, and some good pubs at the other. We may have laughed when the sign proclaiming "Edinburgh's Seaside" was put up, but actually it's a great place for a day out!
