30 reviews of Jazz Bar in English
We’ve had many good nights here! Good atmosphere. Go early to ensure you get a good seat!
Maneuver own some narrow stairs and into a dimly lit bar area- and you have the perfect underground jazz den. Wear a trilby and buy a bottle of red.
Great late night hide away. Where else can you get such superb and diverse a range of music and excellent bar selection until 3am? 7 nights a week?
The only available table when we went in had sick on one of the seats. I can't believe the staff hadn't cleaned it up. Disgusting.
Love it. Great place to go on a Monday when the big band play. the musicians have fun, and you feel a part of it. The service is good, the place is clean and the clientele mixed.
Drinks aren't cheap, but then you don;t go to a jazz bar to get sloshed. Go here; buy a couple of drinks, sit back, chill out and listen to some great jazz music. Exactly as it says on the tin!
Nice spot... well, maybe nice isn't the right word... but loads of atmosphere. Entertaining, quite cheap and lots of fun. I'd definitely recommend it for a night out.
Great place, Friendly staff, Good music.
We went in quite early, had a couple of beers, relaxed and listened to the music. Don't be put off by having to go downstairs into the club, its a great place.
£4 entrance fee, money well spent.
Ended up staying a lot later than we thought we would.
Highly recommended.
Just what I imagined from a Jazz Bar, kind of smoky, smallish venue with bar stools and really good live music - of the jazz variety of course!
Not too much seating and the drinks are kind of expensive but its got a real cosy feel to it this place and it almost has a sort of New Orleans sort of authentic jazz feel to it. (can you tell I dont know much about jazz) Great location but kind of tucked away a little bit if you dont know where you are going.
I did really like it here though, get in early to get a booth seat they are much more comfortable than the bar stools and also dont expect a big conversation cause its quite loud - but its a jazz bar!
I visited this place on Friday night for the first time and I LOVED IT. As my brother put it quite simply when describing this place, 'It's just how you would imagine a Jazz bar to be.'
It's basement level with dark interiors and small, round candle-lit tables. It had a nice, chilled out atmosphere with a real mix of customers.
It was £5 in, £3 if you were a student. More than worth it.
This is pretty much the only place in the city where you can chill out and go see high-calibre live music on any day of the week. This underground jazz club is intimate, dark, and has a real finesse about it. The house band is superb, so you can almost always guarantee that you won't be disappointed by the music, which is by no means limited to the rather elitist confines of jazz.
I even saw a celtic folk band there the other night. Amazing.
hmmmmm the Jazz bar, so close to being a 5 star venue, if it weren't for some of the awful acts i've seen in there, and its desire to try and straddle two purposes at once.
Bill Kyle touts it as a listening venue, but clearly some people are just there because its cool (and believe me it is cool) but its mega annoying if you're actually there to hear a band.
conversely however the jazz bar does work really well for some hard hitting bands who get people dancing, I've shaked by booty to the banana sessions many times there and its been fantastic!
The bar is pretty expensive, handy for clearing out most students (if that kinda thing annoys you) but the afternoon tea is pretty cheap (nibbles included)
I saw Sweet Cherie Bakewell do a fantastic rendition of Scream A Song Of Sixpence here a year or so ago - I was ill but my friends had a great night.
now this is a great bar. The atmosphere is great and moody. And there's jazz music too, even if your not a fan of jazz its a change to have some real live musicians playing, while you hang out with friends
There is a handful of things I will expect from my jazz bar of choice, and after living in New York I quickly discovered some things are down right deal clinchers.
So I like it to be a bit hidden (dark is the key- black out he windows if you must!)so the stairs to the basement venue at the Jazz Bar do it just right. Also conveniently ensuring no crude light of day (or eventhe street lights at night) touch the musicians, otherwise I think they turn into pumpkins.
Another is a laid back bartender. There have been a few over the years, but one less inclined to chat it better.
Tables and candles- a must. The Jazz Bar has a few too many, however when your hemmed in by toe jigglers and the music is just right, you have forgotten that you wanted to stretch your legs till the end anyway.
The final element is some interesting folk about. This box is also ticked, as the rule of thumb seems ot be if you’ve got ears then you’re welcome.
DublinViking My husband loves jazz,so I’ve bookmarked it for future reference.
Great review. Thanks :-)

Looking for some great live jazz? This is the place to go! I suggest getting there a little early to get the perfect seat. I went with a group and that is what we did…and it is worth it. By the middle of the three hour performance, it was packed, standing room only and I wouldn’t want to be standing for that long! Having been to various jazz venues in other places, it was exactly as I would expect…dark, good sound, loud (so don’t plan on talking), crowded and a well stocked bar. What else could a person ask for? Also, you can go on their website and see who is performing, so if you are looking for someone in particular, you know when you should go. Even if you don’t know anyone in the jazz community, it is still worth going to…you will enjoy it.
this is one great little late night venue. the musical talent of the regulars and guests (from what i have seen) is pretty top notch. the late night slot especially throws up a real variety from funk to hip hop. it also draws a crowd you might not expect, calling to young and old alike. the only real danger here is that it draws you in, makes you feel at home and calls you back for more and more…
An excellent evening means ending up here! As a basement bar, the decor feels like you could be walking into a little joint in anyplace from NYC to Paris but just order from the friendly staff and you’ll remember you’re planted firmly in the Burg!! Excellent drinks stock and well-made cocktails.
The live music calender is superb and the variety will astound. Saturday Night 'Fishfry’ (Midnight to 3am) really anchors the venue as an essential hangout for music appreciation with the gents from Four Corners sourcing some of the most extravagant and funky live groups from 'out of town’!
The seating/dancing setup can be a little crammed at max capacity but the music, staff and drinks will help most people feel like part of furniture.
Great place to start off the night, grab drink, chat and relax to some good music before heading out to dance.
The Jazz Bar has DUMBED BOWN recently on Saturday afternoons, a Singing? bass player and a STIFF drummer its HORRIBLE to my ears
