We went to this place for a stag do and I have to say, it's one of the best places in London I've ever been to. The staff were amazing, the beer flowed all night along with several rounds of shots. The food was good and not too pricey, in all it was an amazing night! I think for 10 or so of us it worked out at about £300 altogether for food and a lot of drink!
Definitely one to visit if you're looking for a loud night out!
If German beers are your thing, you're sure to enjoy a visit to this vast underground bar, where lagers are sold by the stein. As more of a wine-lover, I was impressed by the Riesling also on offer, and was also pleasantly surprised by the food, which is hearty, filling and with good, well-chosen options for vegetarians. Staff are very friendly and wear traditional Bavarian garb.
My main criticism of this bar would be the fact that it's housed in a basement, completely light-free room that is mostly featureless, which doesn't make it feel especially cosy (a saving grace of many underground pubs). However the staff ensure a warm welcome for all, and it's a brilliant lively venue, especially for large groups or on special occasions - we went along for Eurovision, which suited the BB perfectly.
Finally though, a bar of this size really, really needs more than one ladies' toilet, and I'm afraid I'm deducting a star on that point alone!
I thought this place was brilliant!
We had our office Christmas party at the new one at Tower Hill and this has definitely been one of the best Christmas parties we've ever had. Food was hearty and very tasty with huge portions. The beers are all German and nothing compared to a flat English lager. Beware though: they come in massive 2 pint glasses and will get you very drunk very quickly :-)
The waitresses were amazing - always smiling, even when our group got drunker and drunker, efficient and quick service (I would not expect any less of the Germans) and German oompah pah music that just adds to the atmosphere.
Would always recommend this place to celebrate in large groups!!
Went there for Oktoberfest (in October) and for our corporate Christmas do in December. Had a wonderful time. Waitresses (and 1 waiter in Lederhosen) were quick, food served was tasty and good and wine (I do not drink beer) was good, too. I can recommend this place to all groups.
This place kind of sticks out in 'trendy East London' as it makes no excuses for it's beery, stein-swilling, sausage-munching, fall-out-the-door-at-the-end-of-the-night approach.
If you like the Bavarian beerhouse atmosphere, and wish every month was Oktoberfest then you're going to love this place, although the Germanic schtick can get a bit tiresome after a while.
i loved the outfits and it gave be a feel of oktoberfest. slightly pricey for beers but u loved the size of steins
i took my dad here as he loves his beer, he was impressed with the steins
great friendly atmoshpere and nice food. you get the outfits and ompah band so it does give you a feel of being at octoberfest.
It would be better in a group as you would make more of a night of it. great for a pub crawl or lads night out
Nostalgic after having returned from Oktoberfest? This place should cheer you up. Not on the same scale, either in terms of size or fun - but a great night out nonetheless.
Didn't try the food but the steins were indeed impressive.
The beer was expensive but it's nice to go somewhere a bit different. I went for a German friend's birthday and she really enjoyed it, a little taste of home for her.
Does what it says on the tin! food was average but large amounts of beer. We went on a Wedensday night and it was a bit quiet. I,m sure however if you went on a Friday or Saturday you would be assured of a good time.
Not the place for an intimate dinner for two or high quality food but good fun nevertheless.
Smells. like. bleach.
Sat down to write this review and literally that's the most memorable thing about this place. And no, it wasn't cos I was drunk on stein lovin'!
A totally innocuous exterior, descend that staircase and you could almost believe you were in Munich. Hah, I said almost. This place should be covered in plastic slip covers, to make it easier to hose down after a big night.
Complete with waitresses dressed in Oktoberfest outfits, do not come here if you are looking for a quiet drink. It's for serious stein fiends. Pull up a bench, order a pretzel (cos they are the only edible things on the menu) and prepare for all out messy drunkneness.
As someone who’s been lucky enough to experience the proper beer festival in Munich, it’s hard to imagine a single place capturing just a teaspoonful of the flavour, although the Beerhouse do give it a good go. There’s a tiny doorway off the main road with a staircase down to a collection of simply-decorated rooms with wooden benches and tables. Sipping on a stein is always fun and as said before, it was nice to see that the staff actually seem to be German - which you’d think is a no brainer but would be amazed by the number of people who get it wrong. There’s an Oompah band who wonder around the different rooms to spread their musical joy - mixing it up with the odd unexpected tune such as 'country roads’ which got everyone singing. The food was a little disappointing, but otherwise if you get a gang together and head on over, you should have yourself a good old time.
Go to the Bavarian Beerhouse for great big steins full of the richest German brew in london.
This place got FESTIVE (one stein = two pints) so not advised for teatotallers!
The house is underground so that makes it a little dark and dank, but the friendly cheer of the staff who are generally pretty ladies in white and blue frocks and men in Robin Hood hats and lederhosen (yes, lederhosen) make up for the lack of sun.
Went here with the Timinator and company and had a marvelous time. big thanks to Qype for rewarding me with two tickets after I won one of their weekly competitions.
A basement restaurant in the City, and a theme place made to look like a proper Bavarian beer hall. And they do serve up several German brews in several sizes and prices, as well as other beverages you probably don’t get outside of Deutscheland.
Yes, it’s a bit cheesy. There are long benches, German signs on all the walls, and the serving girls – who all seem to actually be German – all wear serving-girl costumes.
But if you want hoisting of steins, perhaps singing along with the wandering musicians, and feasting on substantial portions of pork then this place can be a lot of fun.
Don’t take it too seriously, buy a silly hat, drink at least one stein, and you’ll have a good time.
The food is great and so is the beer and at times this place has an amazing atmosphere. However it can depend on the night because at times the service is slow and the music and other customers are so loud you can’t talk.
I do love the costumes of the serving staff though!
At times I’ve had a ball here and at those times I would give this place 5 stars, other times I couldn’t wait to get out, so its gets an average of 3.
You could have a great night here if you come on the right night
As no one can neglect the Fatherland, especially being half German myself, this place an old underground city wine bar transformed in to a Beer Cellar, serving excellent authentic Bavarian Specialties.
As you all know Germany is famous for its Beers, however they still have over 700 Breweries in the country, and i can tell you this place has some of the best. My favorite the Dark Weiss bier served by the liter.
One of those will make you mellow and giggly as no other alcoholic Beverage.
The Drink combined with a Porks Leg served in the traditional Bavarian way, crispy on the outside soft in the middle with gray, hmmmmm
Also the Girls wearing the original bavarian Dirdel dress having a great attitude and giving down to earth service this place is a must for any group from 4 people onwards.
Its not a place however to bring your girl or boy for a evening Dinner just the two of you, you might feel a little misplaced.
In this place you need to be loud, bang your beers together and have a jolly good time.

Great atmosphere and excellent service. Very stereotypical though. Being german ourselves we were very dissapointed with the food. Not only did it arrive cold also turns out they deep-fry the Schniztle…which is not very authentic at all. If it’s yummy german food you want you’re better off going to the frozen meals section in Lidl.
The place looks great and like I said service is excellent. But if it’s fresh, good and tasty german food you want…this is not the place to go.
Fell into this place by accident on the way to “The Wenlock Arms” (after being dropped off by an incompetent taxi driver who didn’t know the way…).
Perhaps it was the anticipation of the Wenlock, or the fact that we’d been elsewhere already, or that the place was actually pretty quiet, or that the beer was a touch expensive. Whatever it was, my companion and I weren’t completely impressed with this place. I also find the German beers a little characterless compared with the cream of British or Belgian ones (shame there’s no Altbier or Rauschbier available, but then they’re not really Bavarian :-) ).
I’m sure with a crowd of folks this place would liven up and a good time could be had!
As the name suggests this is a Bavarian beer house; so if you fancy a stein of beer (or less), delivered to your table by a a waitress in a dirndl, or maybe a sherbet slammer, ...then this is the place to go. The seating area is basic consisting of mainly long bench style tables from where you will be served; at busy times be prepared to share a table with other customers. The food is good and portion sizes are large, choose from schnitzels, German sausages, spazle, pork knuckle, a snack menus, and other dishes. For large parties (that book in advance) you can order a roast suckling pig. Check the website for special offers on events and meals.
The Bavarian Beerhouse claims to be the only Bavarian beerhouse in London, and I was very interested on my visit there because I have never seen anything like it before.
Much different from you're usual bar/pub/resturaunt (although I would say it fits neither of those descriptions) there are many types of Bavarian drink available such as Apfelkorn and Porno Brouse (1 metre of shots) . The tables are long and people sit in rows on either side of each other.
I chose to order an Erdinger lager, served in huge stein glass which is approximately 1.7 pints, (which feelsl like a lot more) which will set you back a cool seven pounds and twenty pence.
The beer was nice and refreshing, although if you are a slow drinker, the bottom of your stein glass may not taste as nice towards the end.
My only quabbles would be that service was a bit slow as you cannot order a drink from the bar, instead you must order and wait for it to be brought to you, but apart from that there is a nice friendly atmosphere and I would definitely return there again.
