The Blind Poet is a great pub. It has comfortable couches. It has booths in quiet nooks. Its walls are papered with black and white posters as well as quotes from various historical wits (“In America sex is an obsession, in other parts of the world it’s a fact” - Marlenae Dietrich).

It has beautifully aged floor boards, friendly bar staff, a good range of ales and lagers and a nice 3 pints for the price of 2 offer on McEwan’s 80, Fosters and John Smith.

And, if all that wasn’t enough, the walls of the lavatory in the men’s room are plastered with pages torn out of men’s magazines.

Go along to the pub quiz on Sunday night and prepare for some good, albeit mind-bending, fun.

A cute little pub with a really great atmosphere. Comfy sofa's and interesting poetry on the walls! Deals on pints and also a malt of the month which is cheap and top quality! A great way to try a variety of whisky's...become a regular!

This is Edinburgh, and hey, it gets cold up here. We're not in Paris or Aix-en-Provence, so we can hardly sit outside being cultured and warm at the same time, so at least there's the chance to give it a go while staying cosy and warm on one of the Blind Poet's sofas.

If you like you quotations they've got plenty up in here, including some fantastic one-liners. Seems to be a constant three-for-two deal on beers too, which is great for anyone, and free darts for anyone with a competitive nature. The food's pretty cheap too, although they only start serving their basket dinners after 5pm, so you might just have to have another pint or so while you wait.

There's a big screen that they pull down for big football matches too, if that's your cup of tea. Otherwise, its generally pretty quiet, so perfect for a catch-up drink and chat.

Deep in university territory, this place has a cosy, tatty, living room feel.

It's like the inside of a cottage with an undergrad make-over: there are games machines, worn-in squashy sofas, posters dedicated to Steve McQueen, Monroe & Ghandi and all set to a campus soundtrack of the Cure, Regina Spektor, etc.

This all works really well and soon enough you're swaying along, telling tales about your gap year. It's easy enough to find your Muse in the Poet, or indeed your Radiohead (boom boom!)

Finally, boys - visit the toilet and you'll find out why the poet went blind!

Invitingly squidgy leather couches to entice you to order that follow up pint. Bustling, atmospheric student pub where conversation flows as easy and as quickly as the beer. And the barstaff are easy on the eye which is always nice to wash down a pint with!

The Blind Poet is a great cosy spot for a drink, with a wide range available at the bar. It is fairly small, but usually has a good atmosphere and bar chat. A few comfy sofas make good viewing of the open mic night hosted every tuesday evening from around 9pm. Local guitar players come and play covers and their own songs on the host's PA system, just sign up on the night if your interested in playing, otherwise come down for some entertaining songs!
