Who doesn’t love good old G.A.Y.?? Just great, great cheesy music, old flashy songs you’d be probably embarassed to play in your bedroom even with noone else there, but in GAY’s it fits in and you can just let go and fool around. Gays are usually extremely friendly even if it’s clear that A you are a girl, B you are not gay:) As long as you are a good laugh and glamorous ‘daaaahling’ they’ll embrace you…Also on quieter nights(Monday) they sell drinks for ridiculous prices and delicious bagels for next to nothing!!

Probably one of the most famous gay bars in London from an overseas perspective, I went here with a gay friend and a straight friend and upon entry, we were suitably shown a great time! Bouncers were lovely, bar staff hot! Felt a little bit ‘on show’ but the bar WAS fairly empty being mid-week, however the smoker’s courtyard was packed!
Everyone (all boys) I encountered here were friendly and happy to chat and have dance to Kylie or Janet, whatever pop princess tickles one’s fancy.
I agree with other reviewers, the interior is a little sparse, maybe needs to be updated or ‘warmed up’. I couldn’t help but feel that they keep it that way to mop up all the spilt drinks at the end of the night. Never a pleasant thought.

Always love a place where the ladies loos are pristine!

As a straight girl this was a new experience for me. Found the door staff to be efficient and nice. The main bar area was cool, some people dancing, went downstairs to the girls area, it wasn't that busy, but a nice atmosphere.
The only thing I have to say is that downstairs it smelt bad!!!! Like an open sewer, especially on the way to the cloakroom. (By the way there were no signs to the cloakroom lucky I was with some boys that had been there before - its a bit of a maze down there)
I was there on a sunday and I am not sure what the specials are, but the drinks were extremely cheap, like 4 double vodkas for under a tener.
The bar staff were suitably hot and friendly.
My friends frequented the upstairs male only part and seemed to have had lots of fun snogging.
I thought the music was great but I am into girly pop - go Kylie!
Maybe they should up the drink prices and do some renovation on the place!

A bit too much Madonna (and the unpalatable Hanson!) for my taste, but nonetheless a staple of the London gay club diet. It is worth a visit everyonce in a while, just to know that GAY is still fabulous. There are usually a few more men than women and it is friendly and open to gay and straight couples alike. GAY is nothing special, but a perennial good choice for a fun, gay-friendly night out.

It is at the same time a bar and a club opens from 5pm. There are two floors and each floor has got its own bar and there are big televisions which broadcast videoclips all the time.
Music goes from disco to r’n’b.

Amazing atmosphere, there are no segregation as everyone can go there, gays are friendly.

Happy hours from 5pm to 8pm.

At midnight, the place close and you have just to take a free flyer for the other club called G.A.Y as well near the Astoria.

If you can get past the door staff then you should be in for a fun night of gay pop, drinking and flirting. Although as I mentioned, that’s only if you can get past the security on the door who seem to turn most people away for a array of silly reason’s
Once you do make it in, and it can takes months of trying, you will find a heaving atmosphere with a young crowd happy to dance along to the newest pop tunes sweeping the charts. Mostly gay but an increasing number of girls make G.A.Y a good alternative to some of the more full on gay bars in the area.
The drinks are reasonably priced and the venue itself is well spaced out, although it does get busy, thanks to the rather over zealous door staff it never gets filled to capacity.
G.A.Y late is a great drinking hole to visit while your killing time before you head to a club, or even to spend the whole night there its well worth it. You always seem to bump into someone you know.

G.A.Y bar, like the rest of the G.A.Y. chain, is unsuprisingly, a gay bar. It’s often the first port of call for those new to London simply because it’s label says it’s all. If you’re a big butch bear then this may not be the place for you, seeing as it’s main audience is predominantly the younger gay scene who’s music tastes don’t stretch further than the pop-charts or anything shiny.
Spread over three large floors, with an outside area for smokers, the place is populated by video screens showing pop music past and present. This in itself can be quite a laugh if you’re in the mood.
The basement area is mainly lesbians, though the bar is inclusive of straight people.
For most of the week there are £1.60 drinks available to appeal to the young student crowd and the more mature people who want to get plastered. It’s not my first choice of venue simply because the crowd really isn’t my thing, I prefer GAY-Late myself. However to start the evening off or end it it’s okay.

I love this bar! Filled with gay men and women from every walk of life, it plays fantastic music ranging from camp 70s and 80s classics to the latest top 40 hits. Staff are friendly and the atmosphere is fantastic. There are stacks of drinks specials on every night and it really feels like a chilled out gay venue where you always know what to expect and there are lots of cute guys!
