I literally cannot believe that I haven't already reviewed this place. Ah well, let's fix that!

The roadhouse is one of the smaller gig venues in Manchester, catering almost solely for independent bands. As I'm more the kind of person who likes to have an idea about what they're going to see, that means that I've not frequented the Roadhouse very often.

The two gigs that do stick in my mind are The Music (a Leeds-based Madchester-type band) and Roots Manuva (bit of a legend in the British Rap scene). Both times the place was packed and the atmosphere electric. The place is perfect for small moshy-gigs, but i do dread to think what it looks like in the cold light of day...

I do recall the beer selection being terribly limited - like one or two piss lagers on tap - and nothing else. I remember resorting to drinking bottles of Newcy Brown Ale.

Altough i have never been to an infamous "revolver" night at the roadhouse, i have enjoyed several gigs there. It is such a lovely venue for small intimate gigs. It may not be the best decorated or fanciest looking but it is perfect for such affairs, it has a brilliant atmosphere, especially for acoustic gigs. A great place to catch bands or artists just starting out.

As well as the live music that The Roadhouse has become so well known for, its weekly club night, Revolver, plays a host of tunes guaranteed to get everyone on the dance floor. Playing classic songs from the 60s from Aretha Franklin to the Velvet Underground it is a great place to show off the dance moves you've been perfecting in front of the mirror!

The crowds drawn are often those you'd see standing around looking cool at nights such as Romp and Tramp, but at Revolver everyone lets it all hang out while they get their jive on on the dancefloor. This attitude is contagious and before you know it you'll be swing dancing with the rest of them - swopping partners in true Swinging Sixties style!

Just a few pounds to get in is a real bargain, and the drinks promotions are pretty good so don't expect a hugely expensive night, especially considering the fun you're bound to have.

The retro style of the music is reflected in the decor - red glitter walls that Dorothy would be proud of. Brilliant.

probably my favouritestestest club night in manchester "Fuse" only £5 to get in student/ non-student ...a mixture of local djs and big names in breaks (so i am told).... has a strong following and a nice community feel about it... which is a nice change frm Sankey's.... The regular maddies are into rinsing out all that dancejuices till silly o'clock (closes at 5am..... or whenever the after partis end).

Might go back up for a visit.

My first experience of the Roadhouse was an amazing, classic Cuban band they brought over for the night. Although dark, the surroundings were nice and relaxed and drinks weren't too expensive either!
My fave night has to be a Monday when they play a great mix of 60's Funk, Soul and R'n'B but it can get pretty packed, so grab your place in the queue early and hope it's not too crazy.
Staff are great- can't fault them. They even helped me out when ?I lost some really important stuff in there

I've enjoyed going to the Roadhouse for a number of years, but it's not attracting the same standard of popular bands now as it used to. I haven't been to any of the clubnights, so maybe they're better, but as far as somewhere to watch live music the large poles supporting the ceiling are irritating as you can't see the band unless you're directly in front of them. The beer choice is small but quality and for a gig venue reasonably priced (£3 a pint for San Miguel). This venue is the main one competing for bands/audiences with Night And Day Cafe.

The Roadhouse has been here a LONG time, and the strain is begining to show a little. The nearby Night and Day Cafe tends to attract better bands nowadays.
This basement live music and club venue hosts events most nights. The decor is basic and the low ceiling and small size can make if feel a little oppressive, especially when it's full.
However, I stll highly recommend the Monday club night 'Revolver' to anyone who likes their retro rock and soul. This night is always busy and attracts a stylish crowd.
